Hi all, this is my first grow. I started it yesterday with 2 clones.

Clone on the left with the label stick is Purple Kush.

Clone on the right with the label stick is Cheese.

Both are confirmed females and purchased at a very reputable local club in Oakland.

Lighting for now--

2 CFL 26watt pointing directly over the purple.

1 CFL 26 watt over the cheese - (only one for now, will add more soon)

The plants are kept in the bathroom cabinet heat hasnt gotten over low 70s--but will add a small circulating fan soon as well.

Will probably add foil lining to the cabinet too. The black tape on the floor of the cabinet is covering some small light holes--nothing major.

This will be a simple grow, will just add a few more cfls, and using basic plant growing nutes through the grow.

Also looks like the club is into hacking up their plants, note the fan leaf that is cut on the purple kush :(

clones look healthy but you should ditch the fixtures and go buy some clamp lights or sockets so you can hang the bulbs directly above and add more of them, and also be able to lower and raise the lights to achive maximium growth by keeping them with in inches of the plant otherwise you'll get lankyness between nodes, IMO you should use 18/6 for vegging sometime 24 is a little too much. Also what kind of soil are you using? ANd what kind of nutes will you be using?

Lights are adjustable, and are within inches of the plants.

I also put the plants into a 12/12 hour schedual, hopefully to put them into flowering.

Soil is an organic local soil "Summer winds organic potting soil"

For nutes the bottle is "Schultz plant grow 10-15-10"

again this is a very basic grow and I am not looking to get mega yields or anything like that. Notice the upgraded bulbs, and over an inch growth on both plants since the last pictures...

why on earth would you start flowering them already?

filo6942
04-04-2009, 01:11 AM
Because I want them to finish fast. (yes yield will suffer, but i am just gettin my feet wet here)

UPDATED PICS. 20 days into the grow. Both are flowering nicely. Any guesses how many more weeks till they are done? Is a repotting necessary so late into it? Some roots are starting to shoot out the drain hole on the CHEESE plant.

Cheese is the light tan pot

Purple Kush in the dark one.

how long you planning on flowering for?.....im curious as to what your yield will be:stoned:

Flower till the trichs are cloudy, no other choice right??????

UPDATE both plants have a nice smell to them, not strong at all, but healthy green smell when you get close to them. If the CHEESE (sativa) continues to grow taller I will have to tie her down!!!

This grow really shows the sharp contrast in size of sativa vs indica! Look at that CHEESE overshadow the Purple KUSH!!! :stoned:

NOTE: This is a BAREBONES grow setup. NO fan, no CO2, no "vents" in the sleeping cab. Just some CFLs and dirt.

ALSO I did a nice upgrade from the little 23 watt CFLS to the HUGE 43 watters (close to 5000 lumens EACH!!) :rastasmoke:

how many days before you started flowering? @ 20 days they looked pretty good! yeah, yield will be small, but you seem to be dialing in your setup nicely.

March 17th the lights were turned to 12-12-- you can see on the post date of march 12 the plants were so tiny hehe.

What kind of drainage do those pots have? I notice they've got a water trap or whatever you call that bowl underneath it.

I used nutes EVERY TIME I WATERED. Which was about 3 times a week. I also used a STRONG nute solution and had no problems with nute burn. How odd. I used Schultz plant grow 10-15-10. I used TWICE the recommended dosage and the results are great for my growing conditions.

The drainage on the pots consisted of just 1 simple 1" hole in the bottom of the pot. The dark pot has a built in or "molded" on saucer. The tan pot had a saucer it sat on.

I think these plants are a lot more resilient than most people here treat them as.

how do you figure that you don't have nute burn? check out the tips of your leaves....on both plants.

not to mention check out the leaves on bottom of the kush.

your grow is ok, but there is a LOT more that goes into this.

congrats on your grow.

damn right they're resilient. it is a weed, after all. but please do not forget to thank your lucky stars that the mistakes you made didn't hurt you... this time. if you establish your current watering and nute technique as a habit, it can and will cripple a future grow.

all that said, very nice for a first time. i love surprises.

*EDIT* yeah, what shake said

I must say, I'm in shock the nutes didn't burn your babies straight to to hell. But congrats on the success. Strange...

The leafs only started getting a little irritated this last week or so. So I am using just water. I dont see a problem if the nugs are swelling up and getting covered in trichs, i could care less about a little bit of burnt leafs.

Hey, neat little setup, Love the idica plant. I should have done a small trial like you did, before I started all my plants. I also had nute burn issues because of my watering/nute habits. I bet your round 2 will be very nice...:rastasmoke:

Just a little update. Trimmed the fan leaves off, plants are almost done, trichs are 10% cloudy. Using fresh water only now....

that's amazing! did you use the shultz through the flower cycle too, or did you change nutes?

filo6942
04-22-2009, 11:42 PM
I used the same nutes. (tho the pros would say thats a bad idea)

I just wanted to do a barebones trial run to dial in this little setup. The nutes work great in my opinion and arnt as strong as Fox Farm. I have seen a lot of people burn their plants very bad with Fox Farm.

I overdosed the schults nutes, and barely got a little nute burn on the tips of the leaves!

I stopped using nutes a little over a week ago, and am looking at a harvest date around a week from now. I hope.

Here is the bottle, I think it was like $3, and I used maybe 1/10th of it for this grow. Lasts a while.

am I adding this up right? your whole grow's gonna be about 7 weeks? the double nutes really worked for well for you. I have some shultz root horomone for cloning. do you know if it works good?

Those plants are tasty looking. I think people can use anything they want for a weed but its about the time and caring they put into it to achieve the results you see on this site. I use FF and can tell you they will burn on half dose sometimes but I still like them. Also that shultz root hormone works nicely.. if you can't run to a nice hydro/indoor garden shop then use what you can, this is suppose to be fun after all..:hippy:

Yes 7 weeks is plenty. I actually had to pluck some flowers off my Puple Kush the other day for severe back pain.

I am sooooo happy with the smoke, and the effects! KNOCK OUT POTENT!!

I will be revegging the plants!

RE: rooting hormone, I am sure it works fine, I actually bought some myself. funny thing is a iknow a lot of folks that dont use any rooting hormone and still clone just fine.

I estimate there is close to a half ounce on the purple plant, and close to an ounce on the CHEESE.

that purple kush looks really tasty. so starting from clones saved atleast 1 week if not more? that's some good info.

my aunt was telling me some different ways to do clones that she learned from my great grand mother. one used potatoes, and the other a branch from a weeping willow tree. I'd like to try those methods as well sometime just to be nostalgic.

headshake
04-26-2009, 07:38 PM
the willow works because it's bark contains auxins (plant growth hormones), especially ones used in rooting clones. there is a way to make a "tea" that you can use in this manner.

Hey did you ever reveg that purple Kush?

he hasn't re-vegged it yet but here are a couple pics to illustrate re-vegging.

btw, if you do a search, you will find several threads on re-vegging.

filo6942

I failed on revvegging cheese and purple kush. They both died because I didnt do enough research and I didnt give them new soil. I also didnt leave enough foilage/leaves to allow it to regrow. I failed. Will not do that again :(:(

it wasn't a failure bro, it was a learning experience.

btw, don't forget to trim the rootball, this stimulates new growth.

btw, lol, because not every re-veg takes, regardless of how good you are, i try
never to flower anything i don't have a rooted cut for as back-up.

what i do with my seedlings is i top them and once the tops are rooted i flip
the parents aka the seedlings, that way, when the parent starts to display
sex i have small plants aka rooted cuts to work with and turn into mothers
plus, the original parents can then be allowed to finish and you'll get some
smokables from it.

if you flower the cut, you won't yield much, plus, you'll be left with the original
parent which by then will have been vegging for probably 3 months so they will
be a real pain to trim back and turn them into mothers.

here are a couple pics to show how i like to keep my moms.

the only exception to that is something i've decided to let go of.

Filo,How do those buds taste? How was the yield?

filo6942
06-16-2009, 01:25 AM
Buds tasted great! Cheese has a unique smell and odd flavor. Purple kush was very nice and strong, couch lock, woody and dark cherry tasting, strong.

Cheese yielded about 1/2 ounce, PK maybe 1/4 ounce.
