A friend of mine has just received the beans he ordered from Holland and he wants to know do seeds need light to germinate.
What is your method to start your seeds off, he plans to soak the seeds for 24hrs in Ph water and put them into small pots with coco as media and then into a propagator.
I have never grown from seed so i don't know much about it, i have done a search but i am really busy and i don't have the time to read at the moment.
Thanks in advance.

I just read a article that stated if you dip you seeds in a rooting hormone it will make them crack open quicker:thumbsup:

get a paper towel... double it over 2 times... get it wet and place it on a small plate...place the seed in the center inbetween the layers right in the middle.....place in a warm dark place with 10-14days they should crack

Well now my friends beans have broke through this morning so i have another question to ask, is a 120 watt horticulture floresent light OK to use and when should it be applied, as soon as the beans first sprout or not.
OK that turned into two questions.

Keep it simple.... in a small 4 inch pot, put some non-moisture control potting soil, and plant 1 seed, 3/8inch deep in the soil in each pot, and water. you should see the babies break the surface in 3 - 4 days. Run the lights 18/6 from the day of planting, until they are ready to be put in to flower.

Most seed failures come from improper sprouting and planting procedures. Keep it simple as nature intended.

They have broke the surface, but i just wondered if the 120watt horticulture floresent light would be to much for them at this stage.

I did and it worked just fine.
Thanks for your reply much appreciated Steve:jointsmile:

Thanx... btw... as long as you have good ventilation, the lights shouldn't be a problem. I am running 10 (23 watt) CFLs over mine and have had great results.

Beware as I've learned in how you store the seeds. If there are any he chooses not to plant at this time it is recomened to keep in fridge.

I purchased 3 strains and got a fourth as freebies. All that I used when they came in October sprouted fine. Those that I held on to, in original package, in dark desk drawer...did not germinate.

I found the quickest way to germinate my seeds is the paper towel method, wetting the paper towel folding it over a feww times and placing the seeds in between the layer, or fold. But then what I do is I take that paper towle and put it in a lil ziplock sandwhich bag, close it up and put where ever. It's not really in the darkest place but the light really doesnt effect my seeds. The longest I ever had to wait for them to open and sprout was 3days using that method usually only takes 2. Hope that helps try the ziplock bag!
