First grow. led

This is my first grow. I will be using one of the Chinese e-bay ufo's a 14w panel and 80w florescent tubes(only on 6 hours a day to hit the rest of the spectrum) the enclosure is covered in Mylar, there is a fan blowing directly on the plants. the soil is miracle grow organic with sand and worm castings in it. the ph is running about 6.7 I'm running 24/7 light for veg with 6 hours of the florescent. So far so good they are about 6 days after germination now (some of the plants first leaves are HUGE). Would post pics but I'm not sure how to or if I can yet. I have 6 plants all from some really good mids seeds. have lots of vertical room for the grow so I will probably let them get quite tall. Oh and all of you who are going to just say led's don't work keep it to yourself because SnSstealth's grow looked pretty good what convinced me to go led.(thx btw) well when I can post pics I will. questions just ask.

It's easy.
For PCs, just right click the album photo, choose copy, return to your post, place the cursor, and hit <control-V>
For the MAC it's even easier.
But I forget, so ask Weedhound or Lolagal.

quarter, might I recommend CFLs instead of the tubes? Being that your using the 14w ebay LED, your not gonna get too much power from em. When we (Im whiskeytango that used to post with Db under Snsstealth) used the procyons with the CFLs, we achieved damn near spot on HID comparable. 4 30W or even 23W CFLs would do ya great. at home depot you can get em in 5000k for veg, and 2700k for flower. did you see the UFO whiskey? i was thinking about going with a single 100w cfl instead of the tubes but its only 20 more watts. the ufo is the main growing component though, you left that out its 90 watts the 14w is only supplemental along with the florescent.

Well went in this morning and noticed a ton of these brown/ copper colored flies. So I went to the local grow shop and got some soap. will try it out today some time see how it works. Also got a carbon scrubber "Can" and a "Can fan" for some ventilation and smell control. will install some time soon ill show you the pics once its done. might be a few days have some other things to do.(neither are in pics)

Well the flies are still there put some more soap on it. any one ever dealt with small brown/ copper colored flies (looks like when mature about size of house fly) or maybe I'm seeing 2 different bugs. they don't seem to care too much about plants seems like they want the soil... any help would be nice if I had a nicer camera I would take a pic.

They look like they are starting to show they are indica to me (just some bag seed) leaves seem very broad.:thumbsup:

The damn spray for insects that the grow shop sold me... telling me it wont hurt my plants, and that's what the bottle says. Well now i have yellow spots on my leaves... :wtf: ill post pics of it later.:mad: Its called safe soap. Used just as directed and sure enough this morning i have yellow spots that look dead/dieing on some of my leaves. doesn't look like its going to kill them or anything just disappointing to see them like this... oh well lesson learned i guess. oh and the flies still aren't gone any one got any tips that wont do this?

make sure you shake LIGHTLY the excess moisture off your leaves after adding anything, even plain water to em. I would get this stuff at home de pot called organicide. Smells like rotten fish, but it kills gnats, and their larvae that grow and reproduce IN the soil. Mix 1 cup per gallon.

Or any pyrethin spray....again, make SURE to shake off excess moisture on leaves. It acts like a magnifying glass for the light to burn the leaves.

Thx a lot whiskey ill pick some up today... i always shake the plants to get the water and stuff off I put two fingers around the stem and shake i can still see a little bit of residual but i didn't think that was a big deal plus with the fan blowing on them i would figure it would dry it... oh well looking forward to getting the organicide tired of these stupid gnat things.

So I Transplanted all the plants into 2gal pots. upgraded to a 68watt cfl and took the tubes out. Also installed can and canfan. So the flies got really bad turns out the were sarcid flies/fungus gnats whatever you want to call them. so when I was pulling my plants up there were tiny parasites all over the roots. they were the larva of the flies(the only harmful part of them) so i got them off the best I could. Now they are in some new sterile soil and seem to be doing decent so far. hopefully they don't come back or i will have to order some Gnatroll or something like that. 2 of the plants have started some secondary growing. put some fly paper in as well hopefully that will prevent some.

Did you get that organicide? Exactly what that is made for. I see there's no perlite in your mix too. Might have some serious issues without proper drainage.

Got the organicide tried it and 3 days later things seemed worse not saying it made it worse just didn't get any better. Ill probably try it again if I have issues. there is some pearlite in the mix also some sand both I think should do it. don't you? didn't seem to be a ton of pearlite in the soil but there was some.

Plants are looking good 20 days old today I believe. 0ne got under watered (small on in pics)growth stunted and lost a few leaves but looks like it will live. secondary growth is starting and they are starting to grow upward finally.

what I dont understand is why we cant assume this growth is from the floros. what would happen if you only ran that light board on the plants and no floros?

See snsstealths log if u want to see a complete Led grow. The floro isn't on all the time only about 8 hours. the panel also is just supplemental once again The UFO 90w Led up top is the main power. Im looking for good buds not just a proof that led's work think that's been proven. The Cfl is because the research that has been done shows that plants do grow better with full spectrum for at least some of the grow time. (not that they wont grow with the led's alone)

So trying to figure out what to do I'm supposed to go on vacation very end of May. This is about 8.5 weeks into flower from my estimates. Not sure if this is long enough so trying to decide if i should cut veg a week or so short to make sure it has more time to flower. I will be gone for about 4-5 days so any suggestions if I maybe don't have to chop them before i leave or should i just suck it up and Flower them sooner?

well no signs of sex yet. Hopefully in the next few days so i can get the males out and focus lights on females a little more. They all seem to be doing well even the one that almost died from lack of water the one time.( just a little stunted). Started feeding with Foxfarms tiger bloom and openseasame.

Need your opinions even though i'm pretty sure. if they aren't balls then they are ridiculously swollen calyx's lol. I know the pictures aren't the best. the camera isnt the best but i did what i could hope they are clear enough. Only one other one looks to be going male and its the one that was under watered so i guess if there are any more hopfully its that one. and no more other wise this is going to turn into a very small grow with too much light :mad:. Oh well let me know if u guys can tell from the pictures. oh it was the biggest one and the widest leafed one... oh well.

Well, my eyes ain't wut dey usta be. But, looks like males. The big bushy ones often are, just a cruel trick of fate. :(

How many females / unknowns ya got now? (with the male flowers that far along, you should have some "white hairs" poppin' up elsewhere, yes?

All you need is ONE female.

Here is a possible alternate plan:

Take some female clones. If you have 'em under low light, low temp, low fans, biggish pots, you should be able to leave 'em alone over 4-5 days. You've actually got time to chicken out and put your flowering female(s) back into veg, too, although that may not be necessary.

You can also put cuttings in the fridge in "suspended animation." I've brought them back after 5 weeks before--hadda ditch the grow during home remodeling.

Read Stinky's threads about cloning. It's easy, and fun. I like the Rapid Rooters with Dip-n-grow for a stimulant, jes' like Stinky sez. Check it out. Makes life much easier. Quick turnaround, too. Hermie

they are already removed and the cat has been munching on them lol she loves the damn things but cant stand smoke lol. I have 4 left that are unknown the one that was small and under watered seems to be male but not sure yet. the other 3 are so far a mystery we shall see tomorrow i will let you know if any thing.

well another male the one i thought was... but the other 3 still not sure yet but 1 more the one with all the secondary growth :( might have just started showing male too. This blows only fem seeds for me from now on. Hope i end up with something. Man this is stressfull and my yield is dropping by leaps and bounds. I figured my odds would be better because i tried to grow 3 out door plants before this and they all ended up male. MY LUCK SUCKS:mad: no more playin the odds for me.

Well ill update you tommow again to let you know the other sexes and such ( we shall see if this grow log even lasts now (all males no reason) oh well peace for now.

you should germ a bunch of seeds, then, once they get a solid root structure you can either put them into flower to force them to show sex, or you can clone for sex. this way you won't be putting all of your seeds into one basket, as it were. then once you have females, clone, clone, clone!

So i over reacted a little when the males showed and the females did not. So it looks like the remaining 3 are all female. a little hard to tell cause the preflowers are so damn small still. one confused me cause i can see a pistle coming out of a calyx and on the opposite side what looked like a very small ball. hope its just a swollen calyx. Oh but in the midst of the freak out i did order seeds. from attitude. Very excited. got one of the multi packs with 5 different strains for 10 seeds. Also they threw in a free diesel seed which is great cuz i love diesel.

I'll post again when you can actually see some buds starting to come in any updates to status and what not i will just write. Peace all.

can a plant be herm this early? because i am sure i have seen a calyx with a pistle on one side and what really is starting to look like a ball on the other... also only 1 definite full female must have spoke to soon. cuz now on of them is starting to look more male... depressing a bit. oh well. seeds are on there way.

So i made a veg tub or at least have it started (wanna start some sog) maybe you can tell me any thing i'm missing or doing wrong. i know i need to use a cpu fan for ventilation of some type no problem will do that. main thing is If i run about a month of veg will they stink at that point. Mind you they will never go to flower in the tub. basically asking if you think i need a filter. The lights are 2700k 23watt except the weird looking one its a grow light that was on clearance on an end cap at home depot its an ott-lite a grow 17w costs 12 bucks down from 21 so not to shabby. 132 total wats let me know what you think. the duct tape is cause the tub was semi light permeable so it blocks it with a couple layers of it :) yes its redneck but what ever lol.

Personally, I'd pick off what looks like "balls" and see what happens...

I could show hermie that early if the seed was from a hermied female.

Learning to clone will resolve your issue with popping so many males. You know what the plant is, and what she should produce like. Good stuffs and worth the time to learn. It's really ver simple... it is a weed, afterall! ;)

Not a major screw-up.
Though you will get more stretch and perhaps a tad less leaf mass they will work for veg.

And, you are right, cool white does have more blue.
2700K is Warm white.
The numbers are degrees Kelvin.
Higher numbers are hotter.
Not about actual heat, more about the colors emitted as thing get hotter.

Read more, buy less.:D

If you're lucky!:D

There are variables.
Strain is the biggie, followed by temperature.
Best to plan on dealing with odor from the beggining.
Ass covering is always a good plan.

A side note.
Duct tape is a PIA!
You are going to find that it will lose it's sticky when it gets hot.
With 132Watts of flouescents, it will get hot!

the duct tape is on the out side mostly and the inside it isnt holding the lights in or any thing i used silicon to hold them into the Rubbermaid. Guess im just stupid about the light thing assumed soft meant cool oh well ill just supplement my flower cab with them now no biggie. is there a small scale cheap way of dealing with smell do the small home ionizer things work to kill this smell if i put it in the closet with the tub? have one that's why i ask. thx for the help i do read about most every thing before i do, i guess i just remembered wrong while i was standing at the home depot stoned...:stoned:

Finally some Flowers They are going pretty well have some good looking bud sites one seems to have a lot more then the other. the GF named them both yesterday. The one further a long that i also think might be a herm is named "Henrietta" and the other one is "Gladis". Henrietta has lots of bud sites and undergrowth Gladis everything is still growing at her main stem. oh and a side note Henrietta as Topped Gladis was not.( will be doing it from now on). I got my seeds in From Attitude Great and fast. Green House Sativa Indica Mix C (http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/green-house-sativa-indica-mix-c-feminised-4686-p.asp) thats what i bought. Started Germing 1-SSH 1- Big bang 1- Lemon Skunk and 1_Diesel (Free seed G13 is Fem too). As of this morning all but the SSH have popped and i will be putting into some medium here shortly. the two ladies are looking great imo let me know what you think its about day 25 ish of flower. starting to get some nice crystals and Gladis (the one that hasn't branched) is getting a nice skunky smell. My 4 newbies are all sprouted and appear to be doing well minus a little stretch. had to back down my lights in the grow tub was just too hot. it runs about 86-89 right now with the lights on plants don't seem to mind other than needing water all the time. Found it interesting that All the green house seeds have reddish colored stems. and the one G13 diesel has a green one. Guess thats it took a ton of pics hope you enjoy the bud porn. Oh and i picked up some GDP for the holiday (4/20) its fuckin bomb. maybe ill take some pics and post later.

This is what i got to smoke on for 4/20 some Grand daddy purps not sure why the photo has a pink hue to it the stuff has lots of dark purple and all kinds of crystals. The high is very heady and up which i guess is weird for a purple strain maybe just picked early. lacks a little in taste has a decent smell but the taste is very mellow to non existent at times.

Glad some one is watching at least. i have had my eyes on your log for quite a while too It looks great glad to see them in flower now. Fungus Gnats have been back for a while forgot to mention that. been trying to get rid of them best i can Trying Mosquito dunks in water + sand on top of soil now they have been dwindling since i have been using the dunks so hopefully the sand i put on this morning will do them in. need to have them gone before end of may so when i put the good strains i got from attitude in the cab. They don't spread to them as well.

on another note i got really tired of watching my veg tub reach 90 degrees so i invested in another UFO for veg all blue. and ill be making my veg tub twice as tall you cfl users must have some serious vent on your tubs to get them down to a decent temp because with 4 lights 2 cpu fans and some passive intake it would sit between 86-90 and im not ok with that. so UFO is comin in the mail should be here by monday and the veg tub gets a huge upgrade :thumbsup:

BTW for veg do you think i need any thing at all besides the blue? yes all 90 of its 1w led are blue 470 or something i think.

First ill show you the tub. So after much revamping the Tub is done twice as big with lots more power and runs absolutely no hotter then what ever environment its in heat is no longer any problem. It has an all blue ufo for light 1 cpu fan pulling out threw a basic web carbon filter. passive intake. The girls are loving it. they have stopped stretching immediately so im very happy with the purchase whole tub now i guess would cost some one about 300-350 to make might be a good closet grow if you went with a tri-band just saying lots of light in a pretty small space for it. and the no heat is a bonus all of it is vented out side the tub. here are the pics. :thumbsup:

Girls look fantastic. Not much else to say being fed with FF big bloom, tiger bloom, and beasty bloomz so here is your bud pron. also battle almost won against fungus gnats use mosquito dunk water every time i water (just leave the dunk in your watering can fill with water to de-chlorinate after you water and let set with dunk in it till next time you water/feed ) + added sand to top of soil. worked like a charm.

hate to do this but check out the mosquito dunk thing can be very helpful when dealing with fungus gnats. been a fun night(a lot to drink) and i guess an update can be done. they are getting big an frosty surprised from bag seed but its my first grow so maybe its normal. Henrietta has a very fruity smell while Gladis is quite skunky smelling. i guess different pheno's even though they came from same bag. any way.

Ok first off the veg tub is going very well the girls got their first dose of nutes. they are off and growing quite fast now amazing how different each of them are looking and growing. The new one in the tub is one of the free thai super skunk it will be going into the flower room here very shortly. need to find out if its female and just wanna see if its any good since i cant seem to find any one around who has grown it to completion.

So decided to transplant the newbies today not really sure why didnt think they would need it quite yet. But i was wrong all of them were at the bottom a little curled up so i would say it was perfect timing. well all but 1 the Big bang did not have near the root growth yet.

albatrossSKY not sure if you were referring to the ones in flower or the ones coming up. Coming up yea very excited about that gene pool also suposed to have some more good beans coming from a stork. original blueberry(fem) and some hermied seeds off of purple kush :) so could be some fun was thinking of crossing lemon skunk and blueberry to make "lemon berry skunk" what do you think? And if you are referring to the ones now flowering i have been very impressed with the seeds so far very good quality buds so dense and good smelling.

on a side note probably gunna hermi a branch of lemon skunk to make some fem seeds. with colodial silver

Also would take a some for my collection;) in trade. but that is still a little ways off in the making assuming it works out as well. so hit me up when you see that go down. then once i have fem lemon skunk and some fem blueberry i make then i will work on the crossing aspect of the two. but i also wanna try all of the rest of these strains i got from green house probably just getting way a head of my self but i definitely wanna make fem seeds of the lemon skunk.

quarteroy, this is an inspirational log. Of course I followed the SnS team with the Procyon, but with it being so expensive I never contemplated an LED possibility for me. However, with a $175 tri-spectrum UFO LED, I could eliminate a lot of extra costs which would be needed to vent an HID bulb.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of your grow - your plants are outstanding! Great grow!

So here is the update. Every thing looks good but living in AZ sucks. the cab is outside and un-air conditioned in a storage room. so i have an idea though hope it works to cool it down. It isn't hot in there while the lights are on. only at about 3-5:30 while light are off when it gets hot out it hit about 94 yesterday and the plants went threw about 1.5 gallons of water in 1 day. The leaves also started curling down a little. so i have a dryer vent right next to it so i might pull it out of the dryer re route it so i can still do my cloths and make a passive intake to inside the house to pull the cool air. will be doing that later today. They look good hopefully it doesn't wind up too fluffy. Didn't take pics of the youngins but they all look great.

Wish the gnats were gone. i continue with all the treatments keep the sand up and they are still there not as bad... they are "managed" i guess. After putting in the intake to the indoors it looks like the room is running about 8 degrees cooler. its the hot part of the day and its only 85 in the cab right now needless to say i am very happy with the new ducting addition. guess thats it

quarteroy, those buds are lookin' awesome! Is there some doubt they will tighten up due to the LED? They look pretty dense from the pics. How far along are your LS and SSH? They look like they're maybe a week or so ahead of mine? If not, so far they are probably a good 2" taller than mine - but, that is comparing my present day plants to yours back on May 1st.

Sorry to hear your gnats are still around - I haven't ever grown inside, but have seen those dang fungus gnats before. I flippin' can't stand 'em! Good luck puttin' 'em in their graves! And, continued good luck on your grow, my friend!

its not the light that i worry about for the tightening i hear when temps reach over 90 bud's start to get fluffy(and so far they are very tight and compact). lemon skunk was started like april 18th or so i guess quite a bit ahead of yours. ill post pics of the youngins here in a few days any one think i should continue this one or start a new one for the new plants? whats the correct proto call for logging a sog?

quarteroy (flippin' sweet name), I can't wait to see pics of your LS to see what I have in store for me. Mine are growin' pretty well seeming to out-pace the other strains at this point, except for 1 NL that's probably going to be male.

As for starting a new log - I think you're cool to start one if you want since you have separate grows goin' on; I've seen others have multiple logs at the same time. However, it's probably easier for folks to keep up with just 1 - completely your call though, my friend!

Damn sucks when forums are down i was bored out of my mind for a couple days there. Um.. lets see... found out the have to much nitro thx alot pre-fert soil. Flushed yesterday gunna flush again tomorrow. Plants are really dark green thats why. leaves curling under that's why. and the new growth on buds thats why. plus side more bud down side gunna take longer:mad: First the pics of the flowering then the tub of little ones.

Jakezking The lemon skunk is the 2nd most vigorous only to the g13 diesel in my bunch which i chopped the other night (not in pics). not much else i guess the secondaries are all just starting to pop out. hopefully will really take off with the diesel. nothing else really look really good i think. cool since only blue led.(was a little worried) but they seem to be growing better then my first 6 plants i vegged under the red and blue ufo. well thats it here are the pics

from what i have read it could be a phosphours problem, the dark green, that is. does it seem like you have slow or stunted growth at all?

what are you using for fert? too lazy to go back and look.

Luckily no matter what the over nute the cure is the same flush flush and flush some more. I use fox farm nutes on their schedule. Was in the middle of using CHa-ching with Big bloom and tiger bloom. the other two symptoms do point to over nitro and i was using time release scott's moisture control. the buds are putting on more weight right now kinda cool now heads kinda coming out of each bud interesting looking. Flushing sucked this morning in middle of it i heard the neighbor next door so i go to just sit still for about 15-20 minutes while he played with his dog and what not so i don't make the mistake of being seen or heard. every thing went well and the plants were flushed nicely starting to smell good due to all the flushing. well every thing looks good with all the ladies.

do you happen to know your pH? this could be causing the leaves to curl. i was having the same problem on my first two grows. the really dark green that is. once i got my pH under control everything seems to be fine.

how are you administering your fox farm? and your giving full strength? at every feeding?

i feed about once every 5-6 days at full strength i have to water every day due to 85 degree room. Ph of the soil acording to my wand has always sat and still is at 6.5-6.8 at least 2 days ago haven't checked since flush but its probably still the same. im not to worried about the problems if i keep feeding only water for a couple weeks and flush it. they all should go away.

are you talking about one of those wands with a needle on it? a soil tester thingamajig?

i would recommend getting a pH test kit for an aquarium. it's like $5-7 at wal-mart, petco etc. also, some pH up/down as needed. also a couple of bucks.

rusty trichome recommends (and i have been following) feeding them half strength nutes twice a week for a full dosage.

if you are having to water everyday then your pots might be too small. my temps run over 85 most of the time (closer to 90) and i still don't have to feed but maybe twice a week.

Ok time for the flowering ladies. Put diesel threw 36 hours of dark has been flowering about 3 days now yes its bigger than either of the 2 currently in flower. Had some major heat problems in the cab in spite of all my efforts and will be moving it indoors to a bedroom here in the next few weeks. on the up side finally got rain here and the cab has been nice and cool for a few days. some of the fan leaves got some heat stress got lots of little yellow spots and started dieing. The signs that i thought were too much nitro were probably heat. Buds still look great and are still gaining weight. um now for your porn i guess

Figured it would be fun to play a game with the pics, guess the strain from the fan leaf. OK here's the deal 2 pics in the beginning are the 3 plants from a little bit of a distance. try to not find the strain in them you can go to greenhouses website http://www.greenhouseseeds.nl/shop/index.php to try figure them out the 3 strains are Super Silver Haze, Lemon Skunk ,and Big Bang. Just List them in the order the pics are. Ill post tomorrow the Answer.

All plants survived and are doing well the youngsters got a little N deprived all but SSH (because of her sativa) side but that has been remedied. Got to smoke the 2 nugs i took before vegas was definitely too early but was still very good. Got me and the gf very stoned. the pics arent very good this time sorry next time i'll turn on the cfl's. Diesel is still getting bigger and bigger and many pistls are starting to show. any way here are the crappy pics.
