All Edelweiss types are outdoor plants and hardy to at least -20 degrees Fahrenheit. They are fairly easy to grow in most well drained soils and like most plants, they donā??t like wet. They'll perform best planted in the garden or in larger planters. The soil should be neutral to alkaline, fertilizing should be very little and grow them in full sun, light shade in hotter climates. Leontopodium alpinum; the Edelweiss of the Alps is generally short lived; 1-5 years. We highly recommend growing Asian edelweiss, the rest of the bunch. They are long lived and better adapting to different climates. Foremost the variety 'Mt. Everest', which stays low and blooms for a very long time. For us in Oregon, it blooms from June into November.
