If I fail a drug test, will that affect my future chances of employment with that company? For example, I'm about to take a drug test for a postal position. If I fail it, can I still apply for another postal position later on?

Common sense tells me that a failed drug test will probably go onto your permanent record and that any future employers will see your records (and your failed drug test), but I was just wondering (hoping) that maybe some companies would let you apply again even if you failed a drug test before.

if its anything like the company i worked for, once you fail a drug test, everyone will know it. I dont know if I would ask people here about applying for posistions where you work, unless they happen to work at the same place, but yeah, it will go on your permamnant record if they are well organized. Every company has it's own policies.

Damn permanent records  But thanks for the info.

So if a failed drug test goes onto your permanent record, how does anybody who HAS failed a drug test ever get another job again??

when i said "permamnant" record, i meant with that companys private records. not your permamnant life record, like for speeding tickets and stuff. No, It wont be there if they run a credit check or something, it wont say you got 3 speeding tickets, your credits bad, and you failed a drug test, it wont say that.

Oh. I knew something didn't sound right. Thanks for the clarification. I actually feel a lot better now. At least now a failed drug test just means you're on the blacklist for that company, not on the blacklist for life.

lol, im glad you read that. when i originaly read your post, it reminded me of a steel mill i worked at and how they ran the company. same thing at other places i haved worked for. im not sure how it is if you work for a gov or state agency, like the post office, etc. i was busted for weed once(a half a joint) when i was in the military a long time ago, and it has never shown up on my record.

That's pretty encouraging that even the military didn't put your weed bust on your record. But who knows, maybe you just got lucky. The postal service is notorious for being anal, so I'm sure they'll put a failed drug test on my record and do everything they can to make sure I never enter the postal service.

I've done a lot of studying about this (using the Errowid THC calculator and reading articles, etc), and I think the only real way to pass the drug test is for me to abstain. According to the THC calculator, I would need to abstain for 31 days before my THC levels drop to a (just barely) passable level.

Passing a drug test is like birth control; the only guaranteed method that will work is abstinence.

Now if I went back to the military(god knows why), they would see my record and know I smoked weed. But the regular world never knows. So my major weed bust is only in my military records. If I ran for president, they would find it, but Im not worried. I have read all sorts of nonsense on drinking volatile liquids, taking pills and garbage to cover up a piss test, but you nailed it on the head. Abstinace is the only thing that works 100%. If you want to be COMPLETELY sure you pass a drug test, abstain for a month(if you can). After the test, go back to being regular, lol.
