I am at day 51 harvest. Strain is Great White Shark from Greenhouse Seeds. Everywhere you pull info up on this strain they say ready in 50 days. However I am not seeing but just a few red hairs on the entire plant. Cola but looks fat and the side shoots are looking awesome too. Is it a good ideal to go off what greenhouse seeds say or should there be way more red hairs. I plucked a tiny leaf caked with trichs and looked at it under a 100X scope last week around day 44 and they were probably 80% Clear 20% cloudy no amber. There is a killer video on Youtube on this they say to maximize the resin production to go 8 to 9 weeks. So I am starting the 8th week today but I am just a little confused as to why I am not seeing many red hairs. Think I could harvest this week? I am thinking about cutting all the leaves away from her to where its just sticks of buds to maximize lighting on the lower parts and just harvest her next weekend red hairs or not would that be advised. Any input is appreciated!

Peace :stoned:

hey dude! The more cloudy the trichs the more psychoactive, i don't think the number of hairs has a lot to do with the high? More the genetics of the plant, yes? :)

I would wait are you sure with your days in it ,usually takes a week to 2 to get flowering started. I wouldnt harvest till trics were at least 40% amber 60% cloudy. Clear heads wont really take you anywhere.Patience will pay off big time know its hard but well worth the time. Wouldnt trim fan leaves off either they help growth. Did you flush plant yet for harvest if not you should probably do that right away. Good luck

Don't worry about the red hairs, just check the trich's everyday (if you wish) and preferably from different places... The hand-held $12 radio shack microscopes are good for that...

Don't touch those fan leaves either!!! The plant is sucking up the energy it needs to complete its cycle, and pulling the leaves off takes away a lot of nutrients from the plant. If you are worried about light penetration, then just tie the leaves down/out of the way with some nylon string or something...

Do things according to what the PLANT tells you, not the seed/nutrient/lighting company. Who knows, maybe their seeds got mixed up and you actually have a sativa that takes 14 weeks to flower... not the case here, but possible.

Now is a good time to take like 3 samples... one sample when the trichs are all cloudy, second sample when its 10% amber, and another when its 40% amber for example. Label, dry, and cure these, so the next time you grow you will have an idea of the differences the trichome color has on your smoke.

I appreciate the info. I have read that most plants window of opportunity is 7 to 8 weeks from start of the 12/12 cycle. I know there are other strains that take longer. I have been pulling snippits off and analyzing them from various parts of the plant. I am about 60% cloudy and 40% clear no amber. I am going for the uppidy high.

I was under the impression that you want to rid the plant of as much nutes as possible so by hacking off the leaves that would aid in this. I did flush the plant last night with 5 gallons of distilled water. I am at day 52 I think by the end of the week she will be ready. the buds are dripping with resin. I agree though that I will let the plant tell me what to do.

I wish I had pictures the cola looks like a Louisville Slugger top to bottom. Its probably about 14" long and about 5" in diameter. I posted a thread in the tech forum on what a good camera would be to get that would take killer close ups, wont break the bank and will work with a Mac but so far no responses.

Peace :stoned:

I think I heard of this somewhere, probably another one of those myths/theories which is difficult to prove or refute. BUT, I'd rather get those extra nutes into the buds for added density (perhaps even potency).

Flushing with 2-3x your pot size is recommended, but if you plan on flushing again, wait until the soil is quite dry...

Well there appears to be a lot of myths floating around and your right whos to believe or not to believe. All I can do is try it and see what happens. The way I see it based off my trichs this plant will be ready come the weekend so I am gonna cut er down. I cant really see the buds getting much bigger at this point I feel she is at the max point. I just want to blaze the lights down on all bud sites with no obstructions. The amount of water I flushed was plenty compared to the pot size. I am just gonna let things be no more water or anything just lights and darkness till I cut her down from this point. I will report back with the yield and all the other stats taste, smell etc.. I appreciate the info and input means a lot!
