I think that my plants are almost getting to big for their little dixie cup pots, when is it time to repot them?:wtf:
also i was thinkin about cuttin a milk carton in half and cutting holes in the bottom for the next step up for a pot (good idea? bad? dose it matter?) i do have a real pot but i only have one so im gonna put the best plant in it, im thinkin number 3. But yea wen is it time?:rasta:

BTW- the one got burned my the light it grew right into it, i think i had the light to low, i raised it, but im not realy to worried about it, i got 2 more lol and that was the worst one, but do u think it will grow bacck? the stem still looks healthy shud i clip the burned leaves off?:(

repot when the roots stick out of the holes in the bottom. you want them to grow out a little so when there is less room for the roots, the plant concentrates more on growing above ground.

hope there is drainage in those dixie cups.....

given the right set up you could probably leave those seedlings in the cups for another week or so.......

when you do repot, fill the dirt right up to the first leaves so the soil supports the stem under the soil.

I would take those things out of there in about 5-7 days. Root mass directly effects the plants ability to take up water and food to convert the energy from the sun in too weed. I believe its way more important then leaf mass. To test this take a plant and cut 90% of the roots off see what happens, I will tell ya so you don't have too, ya screw your self out of a whole bunch of bud. Now a clone of that same plant grown the same way and cut 90% of the leaf mass off. Some do this too the bottom 90% and call it lollipopping. If you do you will get fat dense buds, minus the popcorn fluffy shy't.
A good way too tell if your plant needs too be transplanted is too be keeping track of how much water it needs, if it all of a sudden starts drinking 25% or more water in between feeding/watering cycles, it wants too be moved.

lollypopping only works with some strains. Other strains will produce best with an entire plant fulla branches. Take a looka t my garden. I would get those outta the cups by the 5th ish. You DONT wanna do what purplekush said. DO NOT...lol Forcing rootbound does absolutely not help the plant grow above ground.
Get some 2 liter bottles and cut the tops off to transplant to. They are narrow, so more can fit in a small area, and still get decent size plants. If you are not flowering them right after transplant, you will need to again.

In veg only...I will look at the plant from above. If the leaves extend over the edges of the cup...I start thinking about transplanting. Making the lady rootbound on purpose isn't necessary, and can easily cause problems if let go too far.

In early to mid flower only...I'll look at the total volume of the plant, from the base...up. I envision wadding that plant up, and if I think she wouldn't fit inside the same size bucket she's in now without a trash-compactor...I'll transplant to the next size larger pot. Kind-of a stupid guideline I use for transplanting, but has worked well for years.
My guess is, there's a correllation between the plant's natural drip-line, and pot space. Between roots and canopy density and fullness.

Altho it's easy to dick-around with the plant, and to skirt these guidelines...it's served me well for years. Sure...you can grow a two foot plant in a 2-litre bottle...but are you providing the best enviornment for your plants? Are they providing the best results for you?

alright guys thanks for the info:thumbsup: right now the leaves are gettin pretty big, it is bag seed but i think i may have some kush on my hands because of the big leaves (lol idk maybe) but right now the roots are stickin out the bottom of the cup ithink im gonna replant when i get home in the 2 litre bottles thanks fellas keep it comin :rasta:

-Letting the plant focus too much energy underground is inefficient- the roots SHOULD go out to the sides of the pot and just chill there for a while while the leafy part grows.
