12/12 When dark...How dark?

hey guys. Im new here. im trying to grow in an open bedroom. just wondering with my 150 watt hps when i go to flower with the 12/12 if i just put a curtain across the corner its in for the 12 dark or set it to be at night. will say a 60 watt incandescent from across the room be a hinder to the cycle? thanks. :rastasmoke:

Completely dark, no light leaks. Yes the 60 watt could possibly disrupt it and cause it to hermie.

hhmmm.. a problem i figured i would have to deal with. its in the only empty corner of my room with the light hanging from the ceiling above it. any suggestions or experience with open bedroom growing. what about a tv or computer monitor. will they mess with it if they are indirect. anyone have their plants ruined by light pollution? thanks guys.

also thinking about getting a 160watt son agro bulb. i have a 150watt ballast will the 160 work in the 150 ballast without burning my house down? and will it be worth the 50 or 60 bucks?

At this point hold off on the hi performance bulb. You need too build your self a grow tent with some basic framing and some 6mil B/W poly. With a Tarp Zip Up (http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/tarp-zipup-peel-and-stick-zipper-pi-1713.html?image=0) for a door. This room will need ventilation an intake an out take. You need to read about the plant you are trying to grow or its going too look like some it was grown by someone that has no idea how to grow and just be a waste of your time

tada!! Light was replaced by a Cooltube to address heat issues. Cost to build tent with ventilation and such ...... about $70

This is my current setup. 150watt hps w/ 2 15watt floro tubes sunlight and coolwhite. getting a better hood for the hps soon. and probably a son agro 160watt to replace the hps bulb i ave now. will the 160 work in the 150 ballast? with no ill effects?

If I remember correctly from what I have read you can run a smaller bulb but not a larger bulb. IOW 600w ballast can run UP TO a 600 w bulb but wont fire a 1000w bulb. Hope that helps and if you need a shopping list for the tent let me know.

that light would certainly disrupt ur flowering cycle although a minor dim light shouldn't mess up ur flowering cycle just like moonlight in real nature but a 60w nearby with just a curtain means that the room would still have significant light and flowering will be in trouble + you wana worry about that light shining from behind that curtain if you have someone over and the whole room would smell like weed:p you can build a good door and wall you can use a gypsum board or wood or just a simple tent if you're not worried about concealing it... cheers:D

with my light situation(150watt HPS w/ 2 15watt floro-tubes) would it be more beneficial to spend $70 on a 70watt MH security light to supplement the blue and green spectrum or just buy a $50-60 160watt son agro HPS bulb. and is my lighting enough to grow healthy plants. im doing some bag seed from widow,shivers,and cali citrus. thanks. oh and from the pics i put up what would you change about my setup? when flowering i will build the tent.

i'd say start with your current bulbs and save some bucks and get a good 400wattHPS with a reflector later when ur plants are bigger. if you really cant spend more just get HPS for flowering no need forMH they're ust slightly better in vegging but yiu can veg with HPS. you can grow healthy small plants with your current lights in small numbers and growing them from seed means they'll grow bigger your bagseed will probably give you no good plants but you can get lucky it's like a lottery chances to win with those:D if u can invest in a good F1 strain to keep a mom it would be good. F2s from good suppliers like nirvana are cheap 40$ or so ad reliable as i heard

again you'll need to buy reflectors and spend money on a smaller less efficient lights you wont be saving much $s if any so i'd suggest you get a 400watter with reflector... cheers:D

If your really gonna get serious about this grow, you have to address several issues:

1. Acceptable growing environment, i.e. growbox, growroom, outdoors... That $70 should go towards this first, period.

2 & 3: Lighting and Ventilation - both equally important. The more light you have, the more heat you have, and the more ventilation you will need. This way the buds will get bigger, and smellier, which reinforces the need for ventilation together with odor control. If the wrong person smells what's growing in your house...:(

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, get some Y socket splitters and 42w cfls, as many as you can (keeping temps in mind, of course), and you could make your own deodorizer... But first things first, get a grow space:jointsmile:

Save up that $$$ and get yourself a 400w hps and cooltube, about a 129 cfm tube fan, and a carbon filter... you will be very happy you did, I sure am:thumbsup:

update... bought 6mil plastic and 4 26watt 6500k cfl's. anything i should change? getting fans and stuff when about to flower. :thumbsup:

if its illegal by you open bed room growing is a horrible idea. Have you been showing your friends? Maybe a big grow tent in that corner but what would you think if you walked in your friends room & saw right about when the big stank of wet reef leaf made it to their nose.:wtf:
