This is my first indoor grow. I am using fox farms ocean forest mixed with fox farms light warrior. 70%to30% I have two feminised healthy looking plants and i have them under a 150w hps for veg and i am planning on getting a 400w hps for flower. my runoff ph is low and i was looking for tips to raise it.
HighonaMountain
02-26-2009, 06:46 PM
oh yeah by the way the bigger one is the gold and the power looks weird because my dog bit a leaf or two. i could have killed her.

here are my latest pictures. im getting a few rust spots on the pure gold. I fed them last week and these were taken today and i gave them strait water yesterday. The ph runoff is normal, around 6.5, but i was gone for the night and the power went on and off and it turned off my ventilation fan. when i got back the temp. was 85. Any thoughts on if they are nutrient burns or light burns. The plants seem to be doin fine.
Divestoned
03-03-2009, 07:17 PM
Well ..what is the ppm of the water your feeding them? and also ..is it time too transplant into bigger buckets? another thing too think about is flushing the soil.
Dive:stoned:
HighonaMountain
03-03-2009, 10:28 PM
well i dont have a ppm meter. n e advice on how to measure, i dont have n e experience in ppm shit. Also i have them in 3 gallon buckets, u think that could be it? When i gave them strait h2o the other day the runoff was about 6.5 for both, i only wanted to flush as a last resort. Thanks a bunch dive n e more advice would be wonderful.
Divestoned
03-04-2009, 10:16 AM
OK when in doubt...feed them a lil less...untill you get a meter,run the nute's a lil lighter.
Could definatly be over-feeding them. the 3 gallon buckets should be fine.the PH sounds fine.
Dive:stoned:
HighonaMountain
03-04-2009, 07:12 PM
yeah thanks man that sounds great. ill look into getting a ppm meter and i didnt feed them anything the last watering and the next time i feed ill give them less.
HighonaMountain
03-06-2009, 05:32 AM
Okay. so im pretty damn positive it was nutrient burn now. im using fox farms grow big. It was the first time i gave them any nutes at all but i mixed a big teaspoon in a gallon and i think i should have used about half a teaspoon or less. im in 3 gallon buckets and i water about 3 cups to each plant about every 4 or 5 days. when i fed them i used about 2 1/2 cups each of the mixed gallon and no straight water. if there is anyone out there using grow big that has n e advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I think they are getting better, all the new leaves have better color and i dont think ill feed again for the next few waterings. Anyone looking at my pics, feel free to put in ur 2 cents about how they look to u. Thanks to everyone out there in advance.

yo, dive. how tall do u think i should grow them before i start to flower. Ive got a 400w hps on the way in the mail.
Divestoned
03-07-2009, 01:49 AM
That's not really a yes or no question...
how much time you wanna spend and how much height is available in your room are two factor's. A plant 2 feet tall, will generally grow too 3 feet tall within 2 week's of changing schedule. After that the thickness will increase but height will pretty much stay same.
Also you may want too consider cutting the top off to encourage the lower branches.
You can e-mail me at
[email protected] Maybe we'll talk on the phone so i can explain thing's in better detail.

okay so heres my space situation. my closet is tall up to the ceiling but only 2 feet deep. Im only gonna have the 2 plants under the 400w hps and i was hoping to try and have them done near the end of may or the beginning of june at the latest hopefully. U know, this is my first grow so i am trying to do it the best i can. I dont know much about cutting the top off but it sounds interesting. So with my grow space this size, what do u think? thanks so much dive, u have been a great help.
HighonaMountain
03-07-2009, 06:53 PM
Shit. I have a serious problem. so i decided to flush them today and i could not get the runoff ph any higher then 5.6. I think im going to add some lime or something. Yo dive, what do u think? I flushed the 3 gallon pots with about six gallons a piece and even on the last gallon the runoff did not change. And the crazy thing is that i was flushing with water that was ph'd at 7.5. I dont know what to do and the growth of the pure gold seems stunted. any advice from anyone out there would be greatly appreciated.

[I] ay HighonaMountain i also have a Pure Gold Up an Going, what week are they at??
HighonaMountain
03-07-2009, 08:39 PM
okay so these are post flush so thats why the leaves are a bit droopy. I went to the store and got some powderized garden lime and mixed in a good handfull to each pot. then i flushed with another gallon. the ph of the runoff did not change, in fact it went down a point or two. the pure power looks okay with a little yellow tip from the grow big fert. but the leaf pics are of the pure gold. now the ph is reading at 5.5 5.4. the plants look decent but the numbers are all wrong. HELP!! By the way highlane my seeds were put in the ground on the 8th of feb. so they will be 30 days old on the 9th of this month.
Divestoned
03-07-2009, 09:39 PM
The yellowing an necrosis are from the nute's,we expected too see that come up.
Are you letting the soil dry-out between waterings? very important!
When you do water, let's run the ph at 6.8 an ignore the run-off ph for a week.It can take awhile for the plant to show any sign's from changes.
So I say we go back to the basic's for a week an see what happens.
Figure on around 60 day's for flower,so if you start flower on april 1st,you'll be ready around june 1st. That give's you a few more week's too veg an max out your space.

okay, thanks dive, my ph meter was working great all day and then it started flashing through numbers like crazy, so im givin it time to rest and im gonna ph my water resivoir. the soil is def. drying out between waterings, i only water about once a week maybe every 5 or 6 days. I agree though ill ph the resivoir to 6.8 and well see how it goes from there.

03-08-2009, 05:02 PM
heres and update. these are post flush, like 24 hours. they r looking great, after the flush they perked up so high and now they r looking normail again. the new leaves on the pure gold are growing now, whereas the last couple of days it has been very slow. I think they might have had a calcium or Mg def. and i think the powderized lime i added is helping. N e way, anyone out there let me know what u think.

03-09-2009, 04:27 PM

Okay so for the past couple of days my plants have been drooping and needing excessive amounts of water. So i decided to transplant. I transplanted them yesterday into big conainers, about six gallons. It was a good thing i did this when i did because the plants were rootbound. Today they are looking much happier. I want to feed at some point soon but am scared because i burned them last time, i burned them with fox farms grow big and i mixed 1 teaspoon to a gallon. If there is anyone out there who has used grow big or tiger bloom and has any advice it would be much appreciated. I am going to post more pics as soon as i can get my roomates camera.
Divestoned
03-16-2009, 06:15 AM
If you transplanted..then there's fresh soil and it has some nute's..right?
What makes you think you need nute's?are they showing a deficiency?
Remember my friend,"if it aint broke, dont fk w/it".
Nice too hear that your root's are kickin ass.Rootbound can cause the drooping,so can cold water, not enough water,or too much heat.Keep an eye on it, transplant may have fixed it...if not we can work on it.
Get some pic's up man..I feel like im they're "uncle Dive",I wanna see my niece's LOL

Yeah i transplanted into ocean forest and light warrior, same as what they already were in. I dont necesarily need to feed right now i just wanted to use the tiger bloom at least once sometime in flowering. I have to start flowering in the next couple of days because im going away to canada memorial day at the end of may. I transplanted so i figure ill give them a couple days of what they r used to and then switch to 12 12. Ill get some pics up tonight uncle dive. haha

03-19-2009, 03:54 PM

Hey uncle dive ive got some serious yellowing and rust spotting on the pure power. I pruned a few of the worst leaves but there is spotting on more leaves then not. heres a couple of pics of some of the bad ones still on the plant. What do u think this is. ps... it has been getting a little worse since transplanting, although the leaves have perked up.
HighonaMountain
03-20-2009, 02:39 AM
yo dive, when u see this, i posted a new thread in plant problems and it has better pictures. check me out i need some help, i havent given them any nutrients and have been watering with 6.8 just like we talked about, then i transplanted and gave them another watering of 6.8 adjusted h2o i dont know what the problem is.
Divestoned
03-20-2009, 06:40 AM
This could be an old problem, that hasnt run full circle....lets try some light nute's tho.
mix up some water with nute's then set ph at 6.8 like normal.Changes can take a week or more to show improvement,we need to make small change's one at a time till we nail it down. No foliar feeding (spraying),it kinda looks heat burned.I'll check the other thread that has the better pic's also.
HighonaMountain
03-20-2009, 04:09 PM
i never ever foilar feed. do u think i should move the light away a bit? Also ive been told by other s that i need to feed so im gonna give them half a teaspoon to a gollon of the tiger bloom next watering.
HighonaMountain
03-20-2009, 05:38 PM
okay so i gave them 5 cups each out of a gallon of water i mixed in half a teaspoon tiger bloom and a teaspoon garden lime, we'll see how they do. i also moved that 400w hps from about 7 inches to about 12. Yo uncle dive, u think there is anything else i should do?

okay so the pure power plant in the back has grown quite a bit taller then the pure gold in the front. the top is up by the light, I was thinking of doing some LST but i don't know if it's okay since i'm already so far into flower. It will stress the plant a little. It's said that you should be done LSTing two weeks before flowering. I did just a little LST (maybe 30-45 degree bends, not 90 like in your last pic) at three weeks into flowering, and noticed it just stopped growing for a couple days. But, everything was fine in the end. I'd just let her go, maybe get some supplemental cfl's if you're worried about light penetration. If it's a height issue, then do what you gotta do... Just my :twocents:

Hiya finn.
Mountain bro.
I've never experienced slower growth by folding it over,The top will grow just as fast..only in a lil different shape,Infact it will still encourage lower growth (even in flower),and also allow you to get more light to the mass of the plant's becouse you can lower the light).
If it was me? I would prolly super-crop it,Which mean's pinch it and fold the top over...But that's cause I've done it before and am not afraid. If it accidently kink's when you LST dont worry.

Hey there Dive and HOM...
Yeah, should be ok. When I did mine I transplanted at the same time, and also bent about 8-10 branches... so those things together probably caused the slowed growth...
Anyways HOM you should be fine. Plants are making a nice recovery

thanks finn, they both seem to be performing great. I finally gave them their first feeding of big bloom. i gave them 2 tbl to a gallon and no tiger bloom to see how they react to the big bloom. When i feed them next do u guys think i'd be okay to mix 1 tbl big bloom and 1 tsp tiger bloom in the same gallon of water? or do u guys feed different ferts on different days? Anyone using the fox farms trio let me know how u feed ur ladies!!
And by the way, heres some pics of how the pure power is taking to the LST. It has turned up and all the branches are now getting much more light.

Wow, those ladies are beautiful. I just wish I would have found your thread sooner! I have a very similar setup right now, using ocean farm and FF nutes. I could really have used some help with my fox farm trio feeding as well. Mine are about a week or two from harvest and my 60-100x microscope is already on its way lol. I had alot of rusting/browning on lower leaves, worse than you did, but I think I over fed them. The buds are looking great, but the yeilds are quite a bit lower than yours so far.
Good luck, and I cant wait to see pics of next season.

what ratio did you end up using for your nutes per gallon?

When flowering started i was using only tiger bloom at about 1 tsp per gallon. when i got the big bloom i gave them a full 2 tbs dose but no tiger bloom. now i am using just as the ff feeding schedule says: 2 tsp tiger bloom and 1 tbs big bloom and i mix them in the same gallon of water. my ph meter is a piece of shit so i have only been ph-ing the water i have in my grow room.(i keep all my grow h2o in a big rubbermaid trash can in my grow room so it is all room temp.;)) i don't ph the fert mix, i just give the ladies some powderized garden lime about 2 times a month, great calcium 1 tsp per gallon. as u can see i think they like this very much. just be careful when feeding, start with less and add a bit more every time until u get it to where u want. good luck to u man:thumbsup:

I think my main problem has just been inexperience mostly. I should have backed off the nutes instead of feeding as often as I did.Right now I have them in 3 gallon containers, and I have to water almost every day to avoid drooping. I stopped feeding and flushed with tap water late last week. Wasnt sure about using tap water, but my budget is spent for now. Im starting to see two of them yellow near the bottom, so im hoping they are ready on time as some of the hairs are already turning.

Joe u are root bound. i had the same problem in my 3 gallon pots. had to water non stop or they would droop. pull those bitches out of those pots and u'll see. everyone told me that 3 gal. would be okay, but it's not. a fully developed, flowering plant needs more root space. i would say to finish up u need to use at least 5 gallon pots, if not this time then definately next season. hope this helps:rastasmoke:

p.s. the yellowing leaves might be a result of rootbound too

Anyone following, check out my new grow log in my signature. i will continue to post on how my drying buds are coming along.

so they have been hanging for a few days so i took some pictures. the first 3 are of the pure gold and the buds are more covered in trichomes and they are dense and delicious smelling. the last 2 are of the pure power and they are more airy and smell sort of fruity. but these smells will probably change dramatically after curing. anyone following feel free to comment.
Also anyone know some good curing metods. once the stems snap with a crack sound i'll jar them. i've got big wide mouth mason jars, but should i burp them a few times a day or should i leave them open for a certain amount of time a day? What works best?

I put mine in a paper bag, throw them in the back of the closet, and forget about them for 2 week's.You need them to be "almost dry" before you do it tho.
Oh yea,and the mason jar is for storing it ...not for curing it.

You can cure in mason jars, but it is VERY important that you "burp" the jars twice a day for like 20-30 min so as you don't build up too much moisture in the jars and it ends up molding your buds, which is a no no! :D

So should i put the buds in the paper bags when the stems snap instead of bend? I have read about using paper grocery bags but i wasnt sure i wanted to do it that way. most people say say that using jars is the way to go and burp them like u said italiano. but i have heard from a few wize old hippies that paper bags is the best. So i think i want to try it out, i gotta trust u uncle dive:thumbsup:

If your talkin to me about CFL,T-5,T-12,(which im not sure you are) I use all 3,I also use a digital dual 600w set-up.I cant recall ever "dismissing" the use of fluoro's,But if you need to know how to properly use fluoro's feel free to check out my grow log,the link's in my signature.
Mountain Man
You want them to be right between bend/break,a lil of each should be just perfect.Mason jar's allow direct light and require constant attention, where a paper bag will do the curing and venting of gas all by itself.Maybe try one of each...see what you like best.
