N.J. Assembly Considers Medical Marijuana Bill
Reporting

HAZLET, N.J. (CBS) ―
New Jersey is one step closer to legalizing the use of marijuana for medical reasons. The State Senate this week approved the bill legalizing marijuana for people suffering from debilitating illnesses like cancer and AIDS. The law already exists in 13 other states, including California. No date has been set for the State Assembly vote.
Charles Kwiatkowski suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and claims marijuana alleviates his symptoms. "Such as neurolga; nuerolga can be described as a feeling someone's pulling the skin off your face."
The 37-year-old recently testified before lawmakers, begging them to pass a bill to legalize marijuana for medical purposes in New Jersey. "Thank God I can do this," he said. "Marijuana allows me to give piggy-back rides."
Kwiatkowski relies on pills and a shot to make it through the day. "I know if marijuana was legal I could stop all of these," he said. "Marijuana helps me with a lot of side effects with a lot of the medications."
Kwiatkowski hopes the State Assembly gives its approval as well. "It's hard sometimes going to the streets where bad guys are usually hanging out," he said.
This is how it would work in New Jersey if the bill passes: a patient would need a doctor's recommendation and would have to register with the State Department of Health and Senior Services, which would have to approve the use of marijuana by handing out a registration card.
Joe Occhipinti, National Police Defense Foundation said, "We're opposed to it because it's going to be difficult to enforce. There's going to be an increase in fraud stolen prescriptions."
The sponsors of the bill say they just want to help people like Kwiatkowski who now have to break the law in order to get their hands on marijuana.
No date has been set for the State Assembly vote.
Governor Corzine has said in the past that he would sign the legislation.
So guys- it ain't a "done deal" by any means! Now is the time to get in touch with your assemblymen! I'll even make it easy! :D

Just click on their names for contact info. I know there's a lot of them, but you can do it! Just make up a little form letter, copy, paste, and fill in the name! (They do it to us!) And feel free to use my list (link below) as a "talking point"! We get enough emails to the assemblymen and maybe we tip the vote!

Well... if it were true they also would have to forbid watching tv, as it surely kills much more brain cells than smoking weed...

Some folks could get med cards in their state but the legal bs involved makes it questionable whether it's just better to stay with the black market. ya know?

Actualy no I dont? It has been 2 years legal for medical here, and just now we are starting to see other things on the list not just for the sick and dieing here anymore, but their still is alot of paper work, and alot of public review.
We need to start worring about our security in these types of situations. It is not smart to gather all the legal Marijuana growers in one room for the media to take pictures of. Not yet anyway
