Hey everyone, im new to this site and growing. I recently found a seed in a bag of really nice crip and I figured what the hell might as well try to grow a plant for fun. I germinated the seed and got a sprout which I transfered to a cup full of regular dirt. I placed the cup on my windowsil and its been growning pretty rapidly. what are the odds that Im actually going to get a smokeable plant. I know female plants get the buds but what is the chance that my plant is a)female and b) going to produce without male/female interaction?

Your chances of getting a female is >50%. The reason that I say this is that normally you would have a 50/50 chance of getting a female, but you mentioned that it was really good marijuana, leading me to believe that it could have been home grown. You also mentioned that you found a seed, not seeds, which furthers my assumption that it was probably home grown marijuana. If it was indeed home grown marijuana, the seed was probably produced when a female plant was pollinated by another female plant (female plants produce male flowers when under stress), producing feminized seed.

Your chance of having the plant produce without male/female interaction is almost 100%, assuming that you aren't currently growing any male plants in the house and that you don't live in the middle of field full of hemp.

What are the odds that you are going to end up with smokable bud? I'll give you a 1% chance, but only because I am nice.

I have to comment because I did exactly the same thing. Some bag seed that I had that I was told was "Crunch Berry" and "Dog Sweat" had 1 seed. I thought, what the hell, stuck it in some good soil in a pot under my computer desk where it got about 12 hours of sun every day, and watched the stretchy, extremely skinny plant rise to about 12" in a couple of months. I had no experience and had no idea these message boards existed.

She must have been female because she bloomed all the way up the stalk, probably 5 or 6 flowers. I was hungry for herb, so I cut her off, hung her up for a few weeks, cured the buds in a glass jar, and ended up with about 1-2 grams of smokable bud. Whoo-hoo. It smoked great, oddly enough, and produced a decent high.

Moral to the story: I wish I had saved that damn seed for a good grow, that was some killer bud!

Good luck!

... I germinated the seed and got a sprout which I transfered to a cup full of regular dirt.
We use soil for growing cannabis, not dirt. Dirt is the crap that's scraped from under your fingernails.

I placed the cup on my windowsil and its been growning pretty rapidly.
This too, shall pass. As it grows, it will start freaking out about your turning the lights on and off all night, uneven light from the window...she doesn't stand much of a chance. If you want to grow smokable bud...you are going to have to invest in more than a cup of soil and a sunny window.

what are the odds that Im actually going to get a smokeable plant.
100% you'll get something. 100% smokable. 99% doubtful it will have flavor or effect.

I know female plants get the buds but what is the chance that my plant is a)female and b) going to produce without male/female interaction?
A) Despite Skarlet's colorful theory, it could have been a co-op product, or a commercial operation...no way to tell it's origins. 50/50 chance.
B) It's the male - female interaction that makes seeds. (male pollen pollinates the female egg, and the female develops the embryo) Other than that, males are unnecessary in the cannabis growroom, and culled upon identification as such.

well, you have already managed 100% germination, something the forum's experts would love to claim :D ... two facts: 1. plants grow in the wild without help .. 2. you have nothing to lose ... ... IF your area is past the season's final frost, take it outside, and stick it in the dirt (yes, it will be 'dirt') ... see if Mother Nature adopts it ......... OR, you can read all you can, regarding basic growing (and, discard half of what you read) ... doing your research can teach you the latest, scientific methods, of screwing up your plants :D ... seriously, do a lot of reading, and cultivate a lot of patience
