whuts up everyone so i was down in the valley a couple weeks ago and i got some seeds of whut my cuzin told me were a mix of sunk red hair and white rhino or in other words red rino and here are a few pics of that

this one is from the supposed red rino
[attachment=o213292]

the fron right and back left are the rr the other two are some very crystally bud i got a while back even the seedlings have trichs on them
[attachment=o213293]

and a close up of the bag seed sorry not such good quality
[attachment=o213294]

the soil is jiffy seed starting soil and they are in some jiffy pots being vegd rite now under 3 26w cfls but will be flowered under a 150w hps, the babies are bout a week old and umm i guess that about sums it up

if i missed anything let me know cuz im a lil :stoned: right now well good morning everyone and peace out.

well its been about two and a half weeks and it looks like my plants are stunted the new leaves are nice and purple with trichs all over them but they are not very tall.

I've been feedin em superthrive with every watering and just started on nutes the temps are around 70-78 with spikes of 85 but not to long any sugg.

Hmmm.... maybe that soil isn't good for seedlings, which kind is it? Also, what kind of lights are you using, and how close? It doesnt look like they are stretching, but they aren't doing much at all. Should be considerably bigger at 2 weeks.

Divestoned
03-03-2009, 08:40 AM
you should not have trich's yet....What is your light schedule? you should be at either 24/7,or 18 hours light an 6 hours dark.

Dive:stoned:

Richol
03-03-2009, 07:28 PM
My soil is jiffy seed starting soil the lights are 3 26w cfls in a 1sqft box bout 3in above the plants,

As for the trichs i sure do have some i know its early but they are there and my light schedule is 24/7

bigtopsfinn
03-03-2009, 07:35 PM
Looking at the pics, you could maybe lower the lights (unless you lifted them up for the pics, of course). 3 cfls will get you through the first week, but now they need more light, 2-3x more light at least...

Do you know about lumens and such? 3000 lumens (not K, like 2700k in the cfl) per square foot is the minimum, over 5000 lumens/sq.ft. and you are looking good...

Also you should wait until at least 5 alternating nodes before you use nutes, you could burn them. Not sure about the superthrive tho...

Lit Up
03-03-2009, 09:27 PM
Isn't superthrive a root stimulator. Anyways, I wouldn't give them any nutes for about 4 weeks. Probably burning them up. Do you have air flow? Looks wet in there. Could be root rot or stem rot.

They need to dry out in between waterings. Your 86.2 degrees in the pic leads me to think your average temps aren't as low as you say, considering you said you spiked at 85. Don't lie to yourself, fix it. I would say get a fan, exhaust, intake, let them dry out, no superthrive.

I think i may have read somewhere Jiffy isn't good for seedlings.

1) You transplanted into too fine a soil. As they progress, they'll need something with a larger particle size, (regular potting soil) just to remain standing.
2) Ease-up on overwatering. They still need to dry a bit between waterings, but when you do water...you have to get it all the way to the lower roots, too.
3) Still a tad young for superthrive or nutes. Would stop now before you kill them. Give 'em a couple more weeks of straight (ph'd) water till they show signs of recovery. At most, a 1 or 2 internode seedling in seedling mix, will only need 1 drop of superthrive:gallon, once a week. Straight water in between. Around/after the third or fourth internode, can start thinking about nutes and additives.

If problems persist, post in the plant problems forum, and fill-out the troubleshooting guide. We can likely offer help much quicker, if we know the how's and what's of your grow.

you should switch to 18/6 soon

bigtopsfinn

you should switch to 18/6 soon

Nope, doesn't matter. You can stay 24/7 for the whole veg period. Some like to give it the dark period just as nature does (and also to save electricity), but never been proven to be better either way (or any other combination in between, for that matter)

LOL... I use something similar to MG... but watch out with that moisture control soil because it will stay wet for a long time. Can I recommend one of those moisture meters, about an 8 in. probe you can put in your soil to check its moisture?

I only say this, because I tried using one of those moisture control soils and it SUCKED, impossible to flush because the soil wanted to keep all the water. I guess if you have perlite (I didn't) it won't be as bad, but something to watch out for. Next time you buy soil, maybe go for the standard MG...

Just my :twocents: :thumbsup: Good Luck!

Nope, doesn't matter.

I'm guessing you've never compared root growth. :jointsmile:
Subjective, of course, but in my garden, a visible difference between 18/6 and 24/0. After a couple of runs doing it both ways, I'll always use the 18/6 scnedule.
Perhaps different story for auto-flowering strains, but I've never grown any of 'em.

I'm guessing you've never compared root growth. :jointsmile:

I've done with 20/4 and 24/0, and didn't notice a difference in the root ball. You are probably right, but saying that you MUST switch the lights to 18/6 is not true... that's all I wanted to point out. I'm still testing the different methods myself:jointsmile:

Rusty Trichome
03-19-2009, 03:27 PM
Yup. Works both ways, and solves some problems, in some situations. (light leak problems, heating/cooling arrangements, sharing your closet with your plants...) Not something I'd argue over, just throwing-out some personal observations. :jointsmile:

LOL... Ok. Sorry.

Saying he should switch is WRONG. He can switch to 18/6 or 20/4, or whatever he thinks is best... Probably best to test out the different methods yourself, and see which you like best.

Like Rusty said, not worth arguing about. :jointsmile:

Ok... one more and I'm done...:beatdeadhorse:

I'm not dissing your recommendation or opinion, but you didn't give any reason to do it. I think more people use 18/6 (from what I've seen), but it's usually for a reason: Saving energy, promoting root growth, someone told them to... in the end it is whatever each grower thinks is best. Personally, I saw noticeably faster growth above ground with 24/0, and if it slows down my root growth then good, because I honestly don't have the room for huge pots in my cabinet.

Some people might get the wrong idea, and next thing every noob will be asking is "When do I switch to 18/6 blah blah blah???"... KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid. Sorry if there was some confusion :jointsmile:
