I know theres other forums that this would be more appropriate for but I really would like the opinions of those who follow this forum; so sorry for not following guidelines. My question is do we really want Marijuana legalized? Or do we want Marijuana to just not be illegal? I believe the industry created from legalization would be far more damaging than just saying it is no longer illegal, your opinions and thoughts. Thanks

Legalization: To make legal or lawful; authorize or sanction by law.

Not illegal: legal or lawful

Could you elaborate?

Exactly to be authorized or regulated is what I think of legalization and also the opportunity for corp. america to take a good thing and turn it into shit. To me making it not illegal would be to keep gov. regulation out of the circle.

well everything is regulated, even the eggs you eat for brekfast have to pass a check from the FDA, and no matter what, I believe that Marijuana would have to pass some kind of standards. No doubt in my mind that most Marijuana circulating today would have to have labels that they are truly organic, or whether they use Superthrive (Plant hormones) and I am very sure that there will be age restrictions placed on the consumption.

One of the problems I see with it is that being 'high' and driving could be a problem since there is no ready way to detect it

That is, for legalization for medicinal purpose AND recreational purposes

I agree with you rev, my problem is everytime the gov. gets involved big corporations end up running the show and we as consumers recieve a sub standard product that they sell as the next best thing to peanutbutter. As I read through alot of different posts at this site I feel we can do a better job than say rj reynolds. We have the technology we have the people, we can do it better.

In my opinion the only reason any government would ever consider lifting the 'illegal' status would be to benefit from it, i.e. tax it heavily. This would mean they would have total contol over the production and distribution. You can bet it will still be illegal to cultivate your own, just like tobacco.

Not true. Even though the tobacco companies would have the big upper-hand with distribution and market share, growing it for your Cannabis Boutique would remain legal...as long as you pay the taxes. Alcohol and micro-breweries as an example.

Altho commercial ops are always of lesser quality than smaller (personal) grows, if the quality fades, so will their proffits. My biggest fear of the tobacco companies and the retail cannabis products, from oils to cookies...from hash to cured cannasmokes...what are they going to add to make it more addictive or disease and insect-resistant, or grow faster, or...?

Rusty you hit it right on the head, what will they do or add to it are some of my concerns. As far as regulating could it not be set up sort of how you can home brew beer or make wine? Being an old man I have seen lots of great ideas and products go right in the crapper once gov. and big buis. get involved.
