So how do I clean out my higromite and get rid of all the root matter stuck in there so I can start a new grow?
Thanks!

Shake out all your stone or as much as you can from your root mass. Pick out whats left, taking out big clumps of roots as you can. Put all your stone in a bucket and put water and hydrogen peroxide. let soak then rinse.

Make sure you did not have any issues with the roots from the earlier grow. If there was any wilt/root rot happening you should sterilize the medium. I always sterilize the medium, the reservoir, and anything that might touch the new crop as a matter of standard practice. Due to the porous nature of hygromite and hydroton, the possibilities for negative bacteria to linger is a real possibility. I wash the medium in warm water with a small amount of chlorine bleach, then rinse and rinse again with a H2O2 mixture and then clean RO after that. The trick is to make sure all the medium gets dry. I spread it out on a warm surface in the sun and wait until it is very dry to the touch. Expanded clay is a great medium and economical because you can reuse it. Just like with everything, it needs proper care and maintenance. Good luck; of course this is just my 2p.
