This the down side to building MJ's health benefits so much. There's always a downside to any substance.
c/p
"Since we know that the incidence of testicular cancer has been rising in our country and in Europe over the last 40 years and that marijuana use has also risen over the same time, it seemed logical that there might be an association between the two," said study co-author Janet Daling, an epidemiologist and member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's public health sciences division in Seattle. "And when I analyzed the data, we found a fairly strong relationship with this aggressive type of testicular cancer."
Pretty thin science though to connect testicular cancer to mj. Cancer's up the last 40 years along with MJ use? That would be like saying when inflation goes up its caused by the price of MJ going up. Doesn't pass the giggle test.

They are just playing this crap up because Phelps got caught.
And that report is so full of shit. Testicular cancer is primarily hereditary and begins at birth because of cryptorchidism haha!!! Its also rare in nonwhite males and accounts for fewer than 1% of male cancer deaths. If that repot was true then the numbers would be ALOT higher....sigh

So the study was, they asked people with testicular cancer if they smoke weed...
Seriously?
That means there's a link?
Just because somebody with testicular cancer smokes weed doesn't make it the cause, and just because a majority of people with testicular cancer smoke weed doesn't make it the cause. Lots of people smoke weed. This smells like a big nasty coincidence.
Maybe if they had somehow proven that someone without testicular cancer, developed it directly from marijuana use, it could be credible, but as it stands this study is a load of crap.

And coming from a cancer research center makes it even more ludicris. But this the nature of science today. Through a bunch of statistics in a box and pull some out and call it science.

CNN adds this at the end, did they omit the opposing view? :wtf:
"Certainly we're going to continue forward with this," she added.
Without stronger proof, critics say the study should be taken with a grain of salt. "There's always been the thought that cannabinoids had some interaction with the reproductive systems, so maybe they're onto something. Who knows?" said Shoptaw. "But now we need to isolate the actual physiological responses."
For patients using cannabis for medicinal purposes, the improvement in quality of life may outweigh any potential risk of testicular cancer, said Shoptaw.

I'm not ready to toss this study out just yet (even if it is fatally flawed).
The study linked below suggests that low doses of cannabis may speed the growth of certain cancers, while a higher dosage kills those same cancer cells. Could their testicular cancer study have been full of casual, low level users? Also I don't think the testicular cancer study allowed for variables that could skew the results! It would be interesting to give the testicular cancer victims a high dosage of cannabis over an extended time and see what happens!
http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/cg...full/64/6/1943 Cannabinoids Induce Cancer Cell Proliferation via Tumor Necrosis Factor {alpha}-Converting Enzyme (TACE/ADAM17)-Mediated Transactivation of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor
And for those who don't speak "Sci" here's my translation of it to English! Just from the title, you can tell this is a "toughie" to read!
"We find that low doses of THC (like when we give low dosage THC pills) may speed the growth of some cancers, even though higher doses, like you get with smoking, has been shown to kill cancers. Cannabis-based drugs are now being used in several trial studies. Grand and Gandi found one case where a heavy pot smoker had trouble with his pancreas and blamed it on the pot. Smoking THC works better than other methods. Cannabis pills and suppositories give you anywhere between 1/8 to 3/8 as much THC in your system as smoking- which isn't enough and might cause the cancers to grow. But smoking DOES deliver enough! The level of dosage is important- we found taking deep hits and holding it, worked. We are worried that using Big Pharma's low dose THC pills/suppositories might cause some cancers to grow faster during studies."
Well kids, the obvious answer is not to take the doc's expensive, but wimpy, THC pills (and suppositories :wtf: ), but toke good pot often so your THC levels stay up over 300 nM! This study also gives more credence to Rick Simpson's "Hemp oil" with its massive dose of cannabinoids to fight cancers.

this was of particular interest to me, because I 'smashed a nut' (medical terminology) :wtf:, in a motorcycle crash, when I was about 16 (nope, didn't learn from it, kept crashin' the damn things :D) ... anyway, doctors said my chances of contracting testicular cancer, was "greatly increased, and would possibly be what would, 'do me in' " ... so far, I've had 3 kinds of cancer, but not the testicular type ... my recent annual CT-Scan, revealed the "good-sized tumor on adrenal gland", has now become a "tiny, miniscule" tumor, on same ... hmmm, well, my only 'treatments' have been daily/all day use of marijuana ... coincidence ? maybe, maybe not ? ... guess you'll all have to stay tuned in, to see what kills me first :S5:
I had always suspected dying of a broken neck, from falling off a barstool, (but, I quit drinking Sept. 2nd, 2004), or getting shot by a jealous husband (but, I can't seem to get laid, these days) :wtf3:
I should start a raffle, best estimate of Reaper's death, wins the free beans !

That is certainly a great way to look at it. I never knew i was keeping myself cancer-free. GREAT!! The more Pros, over Cons the better!!

Guess I know the cause of my cancer hahaha.
Although I did have nonseminoma testicular cancer, it's crazy to think it's was cannabis and this study is even crazier. I would think it would be the cigarettes that did it and not the cannabis. Really I think what caused it was I was obsessively working out, 6 days, twice a week plus cycling hardcore without wearing those special pants that has a cup and I got pretty bulky within a fast period of time. I think it altered my testosterone production causing my cancer.
At least it's more sensible than "since testicular cancer rates raised the last 50 years, so did marijuanas there, therefore marijuana causes testicular cancer." What kind of shit study is this?
Btw Granny, ever since I survived chemo, all I been doing is smoking high doses of cannabis, no incidents of cancer since :)

So, from a totally unbiased viewpoint, are you at an increased risk for testicular cancer by smoking weed or is this just another myth/scare tactic and how can you be so sure?
Also, don't they prescribe medical MJ for patients with ANY type of cancer to ease their pain? If it was known to make your chances of testicular cancer worse then obviously they would only have you stick to chemo therapy right?
I love smoking weed so I'm hoping none of this is true. :sadcrying

Well, they don't pass out an IV of Red Devil (Chemo) and a bowl of pot! It is even difficult with the law to get prescriptions for mmj. I went thru it with a friend and it was never, ever offered or discussed. I did get some and couldn't get her to use. If the Dr. had offered and been open about it, etc. my friend would not have suffered so. If there had been a Canna.com then, I would have known how to bake something.
If there is any credeance at all to the study, it would make one wonder if that would ring true for females and ovarian cancer? Well heck, hiv/aids, heck I could name a lot of things that might have increased as mj smoking did! Even the population! If I were you guys, I'd just stay stoked!!
I was skrolling to the first post and lost a really good hit when I read worries crushed a nut--shame on you IR, I had a real good one too! cough!

yeah it's pretty mental.
Cannabis has anticancer properties, the idea of it causing cancer seems amazing to me..
this is not bullshit, cannabis has been scientifically proven without a doubt (i believe THC) to actively reverse/heal and repair both tumours and throat cancers...
If only someone could tell that Jade Goody woman about Rick Simpsons 'the cure' - she'd live..

Eat all the brownies you can!
That study was related to 'smoking' more so than eating or vaping it. Too bad there isn't more info. This is a very important thing-any cancer that has balls and boobs in it needs to be a little more precise! The quarterback of my Hi School team got testicular CA back in the '70's. It isn't new and it is freaky. He talked to me about it a lot and at his age to have to worry about whether he'll be able to have children for sure or not. But, he had one nut left and he didn't waste it and is still around! If it weren't 4 football physical he may not have found it.
In reading this thread it makes me think that those that really have a great need for it should be getting treated with the oil. Drops under your tongue! And vape or toke if needed for break-through pain! Cookies for bfst or green butter on your toast (like my mmj doc) every morning! Browinies in your ice cream/yogurt!
If this were proven you'd bet the first President with testicular cancer or a close family member with it would do something about legalization!
If you have or have had testicular cancer and do use, I sure would not say, "It is the pot!" More than likely it is second hand smoke! Or the invention of the electric can opener!
Guess with new stem cell research, perhaps there will be a cure in the works and soon. The next financial profit ex:smokin:plosion of this century. PR

I think its caused by having your damn cellphone in your pocket. I don't suppose they asked anybody that during the survey.

I read a study in a doctors magazine about 3 weeks ago that they did a preliminary study of this with 17 people! They move quick when there's a chance to prove Cannabis is evil don't they!?
Maybe if they did the same for all of it's benefits and published those then weed wouldn't have such a bad name.
Honestly, they shouldn't publish ANY pre-clinical trials. They can be COMPLETELY wrong and it just misleads the public because they won't follow up on it later on (the people or the media) and majority of people know fuck all about the scientific method and will just take the headline as gospel.
"and all were residents of the Seattle-Puget Sound region."
So maybe there was an environmental factor? Maybe there's some sort of pollution right next to their house? A number of other things are possible, that's why real studies look at a wide group of people and also don't just ask them how much they smoke.
"The men reported any history of marijuana use, as well as alcohol and smoking habits, and the same information was collected from about 1,000 healthy men."
Now I don't know where the actual study is, but why did the reporter not mention the use of alcohol and tobacco? Hmmmm.... tough one there, she/he has gots the reefer madness!
I'm pretty sure all the studies about Cannabis and lowering sperm count/quality has been shown to be bullshit. I'm pretty sure smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol lowers your sperm count too. (both which are PROVEN to cause cancer beyond a doubt)
But that's kinda beside the point because how does lower sperm count correlate with an aggressive form of cancer?
Who the fuck knows!
