Israeli forces capture Lebanese aid ship
Thu, 05 Feb 2009 10:24:40 GMT
Israeli forces have reportedly boarded a Lebanese aid ship bound for the Gaza Strip, taking the vessel to an undisclosed destination.

The Israeli military opened fire on the ship earlier on Thursday, as it was trying to deliver food and medicine to the starving Palestinians in the Israeli blockaded territory.

"We were informed by the crew that Israeli forces boarded the ship after firing shots at it," AFP quoted Maen Bashur as saying. "We have lost contact with them."

Prior to the incident Israeli gunboats had called on the boat to turn away from the Palestinian territory.

"Two Israeli gunboats intercepted the ship on Wednesday night while it was in international waters trying to reach territorial waters in northern Palestine," Bashur said.

"The ship was asked to turn back as two Israeli military helicopters flew over the area and fired flares. The aid boat moved away, but it has been trying since early Thursday to reach Gaza through Egyptian territorial waters," he explained.

Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora urged the international community to press Israel to allow the vessel which was carrying 60 tons of medical supplies, food, clothing and toys, to reach Gaza.

The Togolese-registered Tali with nine passengers aboard had passed through the nearby Mediterranean island of Cyprus where authorities checked the cargo to ensure transparency before it headed for Gaza.

No disrespect meant to you TG, but why all these posts on a marijuana web site? Looks like it would be more informative to post this type of subject on a website catering to political or news info readers.

Cannabis.com: Why do we have a political forum? Seems more logical to stick to the topics of marijuana. All these political discussions have alienated members in the past, I'd hate to see it happen again. If politics and marijuana mix, then yes, let's hear about it, otherwise I don't see the point in posting political subjects here.

They should mix :smokin:. But seriously I don't see how political discussions are deterring people away. Maybe if it was chalk full of politics sure but it seems to be pretty limited to the politics and current events section which is exactly where it belongs. Personally though I love reading up on current events and politics when I'm high because its like a really cool story, except whats even crazier is the fact that we're all a part of it.

Appreciate it Lola...The job of certain people on CC is to keep us informed of every political moment that goes in Isreal...Never heard one peep about any other injustice going on anywhere else in the world from these same people, nor a grow or any decent opinion towards cannabis activism,etc...Covering Israel is their job at CC...

Of course there are injustices going on elsewhere in the world, but the ones conducted by Israel are more troubling because of the huge scope of the arbitrary carnage, and because the world's superpower stands by them unconditionally. I'd like to see you try and defend Israel....I think your only argument would be to accuse the critics of anti-Semitism, which is akin to accusing the critics of South African apartheid to be racist against whites.

I have plenty of opinions concerning cannabis activism but I've felt that a human rights crisis is more pressing right now.
