they're not topped, stunted intentionally during veg, lst just before flowering. the indica same thing except it's in lst right now and is flowering a few weeks behind the haze.

Never heard of adding B1 or is this an acronym for a nute, What does it do?

Nice read Shov--you're too funny!
Jerry, I use B1 when I transplant a tree! I think that is the one--keeps them from transplant shock! Like all else, too much will kill um.
The Nuge-even I got that! Am I just getting too old. I like his songs and his hunting ventures!
You could send me a bucket and a list--have a shovel! rofl!!!
What a smart wife. She knows how to get a great Valentine's gift and hubby! Cudos to you both! Life is a team effort!
I sure love your grows! You make it look easy, even when they mess up, you still pull it off! Thank you for the explanation, I thought I was too dumb to do this while reading all those #'s and stuff! P/R :D

Hello Shov.
First since two of my favourite CanCom'ers posted after eachother:
Really glad to see you guys back, all of you ofc but a little special for Pain and Shovel. <3
If I ever get over to the US I'll drop by both of you if I can. :D
Pain because I can't imagine there is anyone that had anything bad to say about this straight through really kind person and Shov because I am so sure we have a lot in common both in the way we see our little hobby but also personally. But hey, we're on the net what do I know? Have met quite a few growers from net-contacts and I am usually right on the money though I have to say.
Anyway...
Glad to see plants are looking fine man and I am sure another Shovel-spring-grow log will start soon and I'll be right here reading it as well. I just hope we wont be interrupted by server problems again.
The Amazon log I run has been restarted with a fresh start of 16 plants the other day after having been running what turned out to be a test run. Ever thought about trying out hydro/aero Shov?
I kinda suspect you see that as laboratory-growing rather than real growing though if I have you right.
Later guys, and nice to see you back.

Yes, I would think that a molecule would want to be more up to date than soil. :D
Shovelhandle
02-16-2009, 01:29 PM
One thing I'm not is 'up to date'. But I think I would like to set up one hempy bucket next time.
In regards to 'laboratory growing' that may be right on. Everything is a little experimental. I'm not afraid to change things up...a little. But my experience in gardening just causes me to get dirty, I like it. I like mixing my own soils and composting my garden nutes (I don't use any store bought nutes in the garden, usually).
Thanks for stopping by even if my pictures suck. I really hope I can get some bud pics, they are looking very frosty. Last I tried though, my camera would not focus on macro. That stinks.

I knew it :pimp:
In general we are as into this and I suspect for the same reasons as well except when it comes to execution. I like the Frankenstein aproach, with test tubes, measuring cups and a drop of this or that and the more choices you get to manipulate and force things to go your way.
However it is the reward in seeing that what you have done is appreciated by the plant itself that keeps me going. I love to see them grow happily.
Don't worry about the pics and if someone complains send them to one of my logs, my camera sucks way more than yours. ;)

Looks nice and frosty to me. Have you tried the high on that particular strain you are growing and if so, how do you like it?
Shovelhandle
02-16-2009, 06:58 PM
I grew this out last grow log and I may have put a report there.
Anyway, I was informed by a few that what I have bears no resemblance to Neville's Haze from Mr Nice Seeds (original). MNS has been out of this bean forever, it seems.
Anyway, there is a lot of indica in the plant's stature and in the smoke. It hits heavy but an hour later you can function and actually get an energy boost. I like that. Not everyone reacts the same though. My BIL said it was heavier stone than the AK47 and it put him right out. So, both strains were very similar in more ways than they were different.
8/10 High (very nice buzz)
6/10 Aroma (mild)
9/10 Taste (nice and mild smoke)

The Neville's Haze was nothing like I wanted to grow this time. The original takes at least 12 weeks and sometimes over 18 weeks to finish. This stuff is a 9 week finish. It is a lot indica instead of almost pure sativa. I had great indicas already. Anyway, it could be worse. At least it's great pot

The front runt is the Z10 (afghani). It didn't start to show it's preflowers until one month ago but it seems like it will finish with the NevHaz. I think another two weeks, or less to harvest. They have not been taking up much water as the leaves are 'leaving'. I should take a look at the trics today or tomorrow. The smell is very strong, neither piney, nor skunky.

I checked the trics on all four plants today and they are all have 95%frosted trics (cloudy) and a few orange too. Some nearing 25%. So, any time now I'll move them into dark for a few days and set up the lights for the next contestants. <G> Unless I get an offer I can't refuse in the next week I'll be starting Blueberry, Mazar, and/or SSH. And my collection of fem seeds look on in disgust. lol
That's a pretty decent bloom cycle (53 days) considering cool temps.

The method used to structure these four plants was one week of LST just before 12-12. I like the result, I hadn't done anything this simple before. <G> I plan to harvest the NH as soon as they totally dry out. I will put them into darkness for the last day or so. The Z10 will stick around and fatten up while I start the next group. Blueberry from DP,SSH from Serious and Mazar from Serious. The yield won't be a record but this strain is surprisingly heavy. The mother of these went three oz, my last grow and didnt look it.

I think this plant will not get any heavier but I'd like to let it finish and have the tricomes ripen. The Blueberry, Mazar and Super Silver Haze are anxious for the grow area. When the NH finish up I may clen the grow area, change over to MH and Daylight florescents for 18 hr/day and leave theZ-10 in there with the new crop, watching for any un-goodness that may happen while it finishes.

Tried the NH in Amsterdam once and loved it:jointsmile:
12 weeks of flowering, though, makes me think twice about trying to grow it myself.
You think this would be good with some LST and Scrog in a small cabinet grow (22.5" x 22.5" x 67.5"), or better to wait for a grow tent/bigger area?

Finn,
there are more than two different seedbreeders putting out NH. They are all different. Follow the suggestions for which strain you get. The Mr Nice (Shantibaba's) NH is the real deal. I have a different strain, same name.

After 12 weeks of bloom I've harvested the Neville's Haze. The Z10 is still in early flower and has a very high leaf to calyx ratio, wtf? I have the new crop under the HPS with it and put the timer back to 18hrs. I had to order a new MH which I'll swap out as soon as it arrives. I'll let the Z10 go as long as it looks like it's still producing bud.

All the Neveills' Haze is now in jars and looking fine. The Z10, I didn't know what to do, so I scraped away all it's bark, almost cutting through the stem in spots. I stabbed it through the middle of the stem and twisted the knife adn put multiple cuts on the branches. The crown of whispy buds I broke over and forced them down along the sides of the stem. Bad plant! <G>
The trics are mostly cloudy and I plan on watching the results of my ax-wielding before I harvest next week. 13 weeks of bloom. Long enough. :hippy:

A little trick I learned from folks here, I name some of the plants so I can rate the quality later on. I named the three Neville's Haze rather than give them letters or numbers. Redbone had all red branches, monorah had spread out branches that looked like a candleabra and spear Chuka had a spear shaped cola. Simple as that, Mrs. Weedhound.

I only did what some Colombia farmers used to do to their columbian gold. Yes, the plant is naughty, it won't finish nice. I've found these afghani types have done this before. I plan on hanging it in a week, I just wanted to see if I could get the plant to react to the attack with more trics or something. The cuts will also prevent so much water intake from the roots. We'll see, right?

At one week before I flipped them I tied them down lst. That was it. Some plants grew back together more than the others but I was very pleased with that experiment.

Oh. well then I guess it deserves whats coming to it hah. maybe show the final result later when she's dry? Nice job on the grow again, i enjoyed it. take it easy buddy.

I sure will show and report on the results. I'm STOKED! <g> I have quite a few other feminized seeds of this strain and the buzz and flavor of the seed mother was right up there.

BTW, the plant has been dry for quite a few days and still looks pretty green, considering. I put a dark cover over it and will cut and dry on Sunday.
The Neville's Haze are curing nicely and have as good of a buzz than the parent plants already. Very nice smoke. I'll have to weight and photo soon.

It is super tasty, nice smooth smoke. Great high, no paranoia, "everything's interesting", thoughtful buzz. Munchies. I like it a lot.
Still testing the NH. It is very narcotic, couch lock on the riper plants. Sleepy Time buzz. There are four different products from the three plants. There were early (top) pickings and then the rest of the plant.

I just received a fresh, 18 pack of Mr. Nice Seeds, "Neville's Haze" (16 week flower). I'm psyched to have them, I'll probably grow (some) them this year sometime. :)
