View Full Version : Cannabis for increased appetite

I used to be a really huge guy. After my parents moved away about a year ago I had some serious lifestyle changes going on and I took the opportunity to lose a good deal of weight, and I found out that I enjoyed not eating more than I enjoyed eating. Oops. I wasn't counting calories at first, but after a couple months I started feeling kinda weird, and I added up the numbers for a typical day and it was between 900 and 1500 calories when I should have been getting about 3300 if I wanted to lose weight. My new job is very physically demanding and I also had (and still have) very limited budgets for food. Basically I found that the only way I would actually take the time to make myself go shopping or go to fast food or cook, and spend my hard-earned money for food was to get stoned and the munchies persuade me to eat. Does anyone else use cannabis for a similar purpose, not for nausea, specifically for lack of appetite? BTW someone tells me at least once a week that I'm losing weight and I put another hole in my belt about every two weeks despite eating as much food as I can afford right now (besides hamburgers and french fries which I refuse to eat more than once per week regardless how hungry I am. Fast food kills your heart and your wallet at the same time.) :( Tonight my dinner after 10 hours of continuous running around cooking cleaning and serving food is a package of ramen noodles, a can of corn, a can of green beans, and two eggs. BTW it's a pretty yummy soup. I added curry powder for a different flavor. If it weren't for getting stoned I wouldn't have even bothered to cook it, I would have just drunk a glass of water and watched TV until going to bed. :rasta:

There are others I've read about here.
You are eating pretty good, just not enough. Eggs-protein; green beans-fiber, vits, etc and corn-starch (or use a potato for bulk)-bake it in the micro. Take vitamins and minerals for your age.
Was it your parents that you couldn't grow because of? Now you can, right?
When I am intentionally trying to lose wt. I tend to skip meals. Too much trouble for a few bites to cook. So, my mmj helps with that and I will use it for that reason. In fact, I keep some sative around just for that purpose and to elevate my mood. Reminds me, it is time to order my NCDG for my grow now.
Working and cooking for one is time consuming! Good luck to ya! P/R

try yogurt, I eat a lot of that  ... after watching my brother destroy his life with hard drugs for 25 years, I wondered what kept him alive ... he ate almost nothing but yogurt, must be some sort of 'miracle-food' :D

JD, I have found the opposite. Now that I smoke too much, if I don't within a week almost always I will have dropped below 150 lbs, I am usually 160-165. I don't eat until I smoke, luckily I smoke every day right after I wake up. It gets a lot easier after you get back into eating without smoking, but for a while you feel off.. It's definatly a psychological thing.

Culture
From the Bulgarian Pavilion, at Expo 2005.Yogurt is made by introducing specific bacteria strains into milk, which is subsequently fermented under controlled temperatures and environmental conditions (inside a bioreactor), especially in industrial production. The bacteria ingest natural milk sugars and release lactic acid as a waste product. The increased acidity causes milk proteins to tangle into a solid mass (curd) in a process called denaturation. The increased acidity (pH=4â??5) also prevents the proliferation of potentially pathogenic bacteria. In Australia, to be named yogurt, the product must be made with the bacterial species Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus. Often these two are co-cultured with other lactic acid bacteria for taste or health effects (See probiotics). These include L. acidophilus, L. casei and Bifidobacterium species. In most countries, a product may be called yogurt only if live bacteria are present in the final product. In Australia, non-pasteurised yogurt can be marketed as "live" or containing "live active culture". A small amount of live yogurt can be used to inoculate a new batch of yogurt, as the bacteria reproduce and multiply during fermentation. Pasteurised products, which have no living bacteria, are called fermented milk (drink).
[edit] Benefits
Tzatziki, an appetiser made with yogurt, popular in Greece.Yogurt has nutritional benefits beyond those of milk: people who are moderately lactose-intolerant can enjoy yogurt without ill effects, because the lactose in the milk precursor is converted to lactic acid by the bacterial culture. The reduction of lactose bypasses the affected individuals' need to process the milk sugar themselves.[7]
Yogurt also has medical uses, in particular for a variety of gastrointestinal conditions,[8] and in preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea.[9] One study suggests that eating yogurt containing L. acidophilus helps prevent vulvovaginal candidiasis*, though the evidence is not conclusive.[10]
Yogurt is believed to promote good gum health, possibly because of the probiotic effect of lactic acids present in yogurt.[11]

Candidiasis, commonly called yeast infection or thrush, is a fungal infection (mycosis) of any of the Candida species, of which Candida albicans is the most common.[1][2] Candidiasis encompasses infections that range from superficial, such as oral thrush and vaginitis, to systemic and potentially life-threatening diseases. Candida infections of the latter category are also referred to as candidemia and are usually confined to severely immunocompromised persons, such as cancer, transplant, and AIDS patients.
Superficial infections of skin and mucosal membranes by Candida causing local inflammation and discomfort are however common in many human populations.[2][3][4] While clearly attributable to the presence of the opportunistic pathogens of the genus Candida, candidiasis describes a number of different disease syndromes that often differ in their causes and outcomes.[2][3]
And back to the topic (sorry). As many do, I like to eat when i get high, but my meals only come when I do, so I dont eat as often and generally lose weight.

Maybe I should start eating yogurt. :) Update.. I think I have reached a healthy weight now. I actually wasn't wanting to gain weight, just hit the brakes on my weight loss. Now I weigh 230 down from 340 with a waist size of 36 down from 56. My height is 6'1". Now I want to hang right here for a while. I don't want to keep losing anymore until I see a doctor. I also am currently between employment opportunities so I am not smoking the herb. I have my fingers crossed that I will eat enough. Today I've had half a batch of cornbread, two cups of cooked lentils, nachos, doritos, a jalapeno sausage and a frozen coffee (blech!) from a gas station, a quart of Kool-Aid and about a quart of whole milk. Obviously I'm not on any special eating plan. When people ask how I lose so much weight I just tell them it's from not eating much and working my ass off in the kitchen all day.

hey way to go on losing the weight. that is all good. my doctor put me on a very clean diet and it is easy and really works. stay away from processed food, expecially stuff in boxes and sugar. eat a large serving of veggies and a "hand" sized portion of protein at every meal - or a couple of eggs. only whole fruit and no juice - good fiber, then add in a handful of raw nuts. sounds boring, but it starts to taste really good. you can buy frozen veggies in a bag and just throw them in the pan with some water, cook a few minutes add some butter and salt - yum. you can cook a piece of meat and use it for two meals - it doesn't take much protien. keeps the blood sugar level too.
