Anyone into ambient music? Ive come to really like it a lot lately... It's a great contrast when my ears need a break from the metal or more experimental and beat driven electronic. I also find it great to sit and listen to and let the atmospheres absorb you. Also, when stoned some Dark Ambience can be really fun to listen to and delve deep into the eerie sounds. But lighter ambience is also great to sit and float with, also great to put on quietly and study too... I fall asleep many nights with my ipod shuffling through these artists.

Some reccomndations in alphabetical order:

Ambience:
Aiden Baker
Aphex Twin (more known for his experimental stuff, but his ambent works were also truly great)
Aughra/ Aughra & Mosh Patrol
Biosphere ("Substratta" is a great one to get lost in)
Brian Eno (The Godfather, and widely credited creator of the genre itself, if youre going to look into just one look here)
The Digital City
Emeralds
Fennesz (very cool guitar based ambience, "Endless Summer" is a great one)
The Halfler Trio
Harold Budd (Another of the elite godfathers amongst this style)
Keith Fullerton Whitman
Last Days ( really cool accoustic ambient)
Lichens
Loscil (real quality stuff)
Mokira (glitchy, good stuf)
Oathless
Slow Dancing Society
Svefn
Tim Hecker (This guys stuff is just awesome "Mirages" is one of my new favs)

Dark Ambience:
Ã?thenor
Destructo Swarmbots (weird spacey guitar based ambience)
Lustmord ( the king of dark ambience, some of his soundscapes are so dark and spooky that listening at night can get to you... but it's really really cool stuff, his latest album "[Other]" features Adam Jones from Tool and Aaron Turner of Isis on some tracks)
Robert Rich (another great and respected ambient artist, not necessarily as dark as the other artists here, but a lot of his stuff is just really eerie and haunting)

Anyone else dig this kinda stuff?
