new grower

hi people,i am new to growing and intend on growing a small quantity of high quality organic plants.
the space i intend to use is 2 foot squre and approx 4 foot high.
i would like advise on:
1 lights, which are better for the plant and my wallet.
2 fans, do i need them?how big will they have to be? and where to get them
3 how to get rid of the smell? filters etc
4 the best food (nutriants)

i have a very good quality soil from the local grow shop but due to unwanted media and police attention the will no longer give advise.
