Use MH through the whole grow and you'll get fluffy buds on bushy plants. Use HPS through the whole grow and you'll get stretched plants with dense buds.

Use MH during veg and HPS during flower and you'll get a bushy plant with dense buds. :rastasmoke:

If you're buying only one, get the HPS for sure. You can use CFL for vegging and switch to HPS for flowering. The idea is to get thick, dense buds, and the HPS is definitely better for that. I purchased a 400w MH and i'm now shopping for a 400/600w HPS...

there are conversion bulbs out there....
you lose lumens but if you had to get one...
also switchable ballasts are becoming very common and cheaper
