I will be going out of town at the end of december for about 9 days at which time my plants will be about 5 weeks old, are those vacation watering things reliable? Or does anyone have any suggestions of what I should do or a product I should use?

I am using soil, I have seen these big glass things you fill with water and stick into the soil anditt supposedly waters the perfectamount but I dunno if its legit

yeah, never messed with that. i guess if there is no one you can trust then you don't really have a choice though. unless you get a little pump and tub with some tubing and a timer. that might be better. at least you know it will work.

read a post once that said those aqua globe things almost killed a guys plants.
i just went out of town for a week just over watered before i went out of town. the only problem i had was that they gre like a foot while i was gone and they grew right into the bulbs and got burnt. id find a friend u trust to just come in halfway through your stay and water them once and make sure they arent touching the bulbs.
