This will be my first time growing and I want to do it right the first time. I'm hoping to be able to grow some amazing bud. I'll be ordering some crazy strains (G13 Haze, Alaskan Ice, and Northern Lights are at the top of my list) online and I want them to reach their full potential. People have told me that as a first timer I might get some decent nug but it won't be what I'm hoping for. I am hoping this isn't true. Here is my plan for growing?

Grow Box:
I want to grow 4 plants in my 3'x4' floor area closet. I'm am going to build a
6'H 4'W 2.5'D grow box. I will make it air tight with vents and reflective on all inside walls with 2mm mylar film. I was thinking it would be possible to avoid getting a reflector if I already have all sides and the ceiling covered with mylar. Would this work?

Light:

I haven't officially decided about this yet. At first I was considering both a 400w MH and HPS for the vegetative and budding stages. I'm concerned that this might be unnecessary to get both. I was also thinking of just buying a 430W Eye Hortilux bulb to cover both stages. I would also consider 600w or 1000w bulbs? Would this increase in wattage significantly impact my potency or yield

Hyrdo Setup:
I will be using the Ebb and Flow system with a 30 gallon sterilite reservoir. I will use a water pump to pump to pump water through a ½'' vynyl hose through a hole in the bottom center of the tray. It will also have a second precautionary ¾'' drainage hose which will extend 6'' above the tray bottom to avoid an overflow. I will also use an air pump and air rocks to oxygenate the water/nutrient solution. I will use small rockwool cubes for the seedlings, then put them in a slightly larger cube and put it in with hydroton pellets.

Nutrients:
I've heard Advanced Nutrients is the way to go.

Carbon Dioxide:
Does it make a significant difference? Where would I go about getting some?

Pinching:

I am under the impression that pinching my plant with significantly increase my yield. But will it affect my potency at all?

Ventilation:

What would you recommend for a ventilation system in my grow box?

Odor:
How bad will it get? I will be in a 9'x9' room which leads out immediately to the kitchen and living room area which leads to a long hallway. I would like to have the odor confined to minimal smell in just my 9'x9' room. How can I do this?

So looking at my setup can I achieve my goal of lots of amazing high quality product (I mean some crazy fire bud)? Is there anything I can do better? What would I potentionally learn from experience that would increase my yield beyond what I have set up for my grow plan? Are there any factors that I have forgotten or do not know about that have a significant impact on potency or yield? Any other tips?

Thanks

room size is to small for 4 plants, If you put them in this enclosed area with a HID light your going to have temp issues unles you have a fan taking in fresh air and one exhausting. If you've never grown before you should try one plant lesss to fuck up.

Dude, 10sq ft is plenty of space for 4 plants, but the heating issue w/ hps and mh bulbs will require superb ventilation. You may want to consider fluorescents, there are a ton out there and they use less energy and produce less heat, but the penetration of light is less. And for the mylar film, you should line the whole box w/ it, or another alternative would be painting the inside with white reflective paint

you will need a 250+ CFM extraction fan with odor control.

if you buy a 400W you will always want a 600W.

go digital with the ballast so you can switch from MH to HPS in the same room. Veg is a good thing for yield.

Consider that Black/White plastic is scrubbable, mylar, not so much.

Ebb and Flow requires a resevoir and the "table", this reduces available height if they are stacked on top of one another. Have you considered DWC? Less to buy and less moving parts to break.

Since this is your first grow, don't concern yourself with potency and yield. Potency is mostly genetic, yeild is mostly environment.

Learn about the effects of Nitrogen, both to much and not enough, learn about nutrients and their role in each stage. Read the problems section so you can deal immediately with any difficulties.

Don't be cheap.

Get a hygrometer, PH pen and quality nutrients.

Spot on mate...lol..but serious, Blink has it "dead nutz" Well..the fan can be a 200cfm, way plenty if you plan to run one HID. I bought an Eclipse fan 4in and mounted it to a 6" cool tube and a 4" Elf on the back end. I tried every combo I can think of and this IMO hands down is the most effective way to control the heat/odor in that box and yours is even deeper than mine. Even going through the carbon filter, this thing still puts air out the other end like a frigg'in leaf blower. I first bought a 6" to fit the tube and that some bish will damn near blow ur cabinet over..630cfm. Instead I just had to come up with an ingenious way to join them without reducers. I have pics in "hydro" under "Cabinet pics...finally" If you have an attic you could run the exhaust up through the ceiling, that would be CHAMP cause that much air moving still makes alot of noise if you just put it out the cab into the closet. Also would heat your intake air. CO2 helps ALOT, you can buy the emitter kit fair priced on the net and a welding gas supplier caries the gas. Gradual bending into a SOG or a few small bushes..you choose. I just did SOG but my next I planned to do a few bushes in DWC instead. All element for a grow is maintained than that space wil most def yield quality green.
