View Full Version : WTF? Plants REFUSE to flower?!?

Hey y'all.

I know I don't post much. Preferred to remain unknown when I lived in the US... but hey...

I moved back to my home country recently (Spain), and picked up a couple of seeds "for the hell of it." First of all, I want to say I feel stupid: Most people posting are working so hard to get a good crop, for a variety of reasons and mostly illegally... and you are all like... experts. So I almost feel bad, 'cause I'm growing for the hell of it, sloppily, not caring much either way. Literally. It's a time-passer, like growing geranium. I almost feel like it's a lack of respect to the growers who are working so hard and who have learned so much to get a great crop.

So I bought three seeds of feminized Sweet Afghani Delicious and my sister-in-law (who needed a project, like me) got some of that autoflowering AK-47 stuff.

That was three months ago. We exchanged 1 plant early on to just see how the environments affected progress. Both of us grow it outdoors on our balcony. I face the South, so I get a good bit of sun most of the day. Unfortunately, because of a shift in season (or something), my plants get now about 6 hours of full daylight. As I said, I know little. I have a basic entheogen garden on the balcony, and know enough for each plant to survive. About it. I planted them in enriched soil, by the way.

So the AK grew (not much, but considering it wasn't nuted at all, and suffered a couple shocks... wow), and I harvested a while ago, and it's all good. However, my SAD has quite clearly let me know it refuses to flower. It grew a few feet and now seems to just have stopped. Was supposed to start flowering about two to three weeks ago. It ain't doin' sh*t. Knowing barely nothing, I made a little foil semi-sphere and attached it to the pot to get some more light going on the plant, about a week ago... figured it was something like that... NOTHING. I notice minute details, and what happened is that it grew about a quarter of an inch taller and stopped. All this in the space of two days. Nothing else. Last week, my grow shop man advised me on a nutrient pack that would essentially push the plant into flowering (hard to explain how he put it... he talkie fast...). Was eight bucks for a pack of concentrate and it says "Flowering" on a legit-looking bottle. Called Bachumus Ecohemp-F. He also told me that if maybe a streetlight was hitting it at night, even with the most minute light, the blue spectrum was present in the light, and it was just nightly throwing the plant back into a vegetative state (sounds dodgy based on the few things I know).

So it's been a week. Have given the plants their plant food, and have made it a point to block all incoming streetlight from 7 PM to 8 AM (roughly... essentially, when they are on). AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. The plant has not moved. Refused to flower, refused to do ANYTHING. Didn't even grow or tilt. It's just a big ole' green leafy mess, static in time. Yes, it has the little... er... "bud sprouts," but that's about it.

Any ideas? It looks nice and smells light and pleasant, but I mostly wanted to grow because I'm looking to smoke it, not because it's pretty.

Strangely though, my sister-in-law says some smaaaaaall buds are growing on the SAD she got from the switch.

Try threatening it with a knife!! LOL. "Gimme some buds now!"

Gotta keep it 100% dark during flowering during the 12 hours the lights not on. have fun.

For starters, those of us that are not felons likely resent this statement. I know I do.

So I almost feel bad, 'cause I'm growing for the hell of it, sloppily, not caring much either way. And you want us to correct your attitude twords growing...or your technique...? You tell us this, and wonder why your sad, insufficient grow isn't producing...?

Unfortunately, because of a shift in season (or something), my plants get now about 6 hours of full daylight. As I said, I know little. I have a basic entheogen garden on the balcony, and know enough for each plant to survive. About it. Settling for just getting the plants to survive, is not a good way to optimize your results. If you put a half-assed effort into it, you'll get half-assed results.

He also told me that if maybe a streetlight was hitting it at night, even with the most minute light, the blue spectrum was present in the light, and it was just nightly throwing the plant back into a vegetative state (sounds dodgy based on the few things I know).
If you are close enough to the street lamp, yes...it will affecct the plant's light/dark cycles. I know it's possible. I had to unscrew the access panel one morning after the light went out, and pull the wires to 'extinguish' the streetlamp outside my old growroom. (wife wouldn't let me shoot the light out) Light hss a very powerful effect on cannabis.

Cannabis has certain minimum requirements. Proper lighting, lighting schedules, (timers) soil, nutes, ambient temps (is she getting cold at night?)...and most of all...care about what the fuck you are doing.
Getting the plant(s) indoors under proper CFL bulbs and a timer will help you bunches, for starters. Unless femmed cannabis genetics are cheap where you're from, if you're not going to take advantage of the quality...I'd go with growing bagseed from now on.

I am not a felon and I do not resent that statement because what he said is TRUE. Majority of the people who are growing are doing so illegally since the majority of the United States have state/local laws against Marijuana and there are only a handful of states (still in the single digits) that allow medical Marijuana; even then you are still in violation of Federal law (not that I agree with that law).

So what exactly was so offensive about him praising people for working so hard despite the stupid laws in place that make our hobby illegal?

The rest of your post is spot on and he would be smart to follow your advice.

In addition I'd like to mention that some plants may not show sex for up to 10-14 days after switching to 12/12 especially if they are receiving less than adequate light.

Fix your light leaks and get some CFL's at least over your plants to help them get more intense lighting.

Ouch, Rusty.

But I did deserve that.

However, I wasn't pointing you out on the felon list. Plus, I don't think there's anything wrong with marijuana, and if it was up to me, we'd all be felons growing it behind the government's back. I said that because the risk and the effort in the growing in the non-legal States is HUGE. I'm not looking to specifically grow. I also wanted to protect myself from the wave of "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!?" that I am terrified of getting due to my inexperience. I do care, and I think for a first time I'm not doing that bad. But a few friends who ARE felons, back in the States, literally feel offended that I don't have a perfectly regulated closet with pure perfection growing in pots.

I also in no way want to pretend I know anything about growing past basics. People are talking about like... minute-precise timers and 30 different bottles of nutes. I'm just... happy with sunlight and my bottle of flower-friendly junk.

I just beat on myself much. I'm not taking "half-assed..." let me go with "could be much better."

So I guess it's the light (she's not cold at night). Pfft. Gotta go back to the growshop to grab those. I take it if I don't I'm just going to be stuck with a frozen plant. Oh, and femmed seeds aren't too pricey here. 40 euro. Some would consider that a lot, but my Peruvian Torch and Ayahuasca that are growing outside were 25 and 35, so it's not too bad... comparatively.

It's just a lighting problem. Build a flowering chamber for your female cannabis plants and they will be very happy. Other houseplants can also be coaxed into flowering by photoperiod manipulation, such as Zygo cacti, so even if you are just a hobbyist, you can easily find other uses for it.

Do you know the lineage on that sweet affie delicious, any relation to the affie dream?

Also I have to chime in and mention that there are a LOT of us here who do not grow legally but feel that it is an act of civil disobedience against a law which is unjust, and hurts no one, and most importantly, is completely ethical.

I don't think illegal growers are unethical and I completely agree with this statement. I wasn't trying to offend people. As I said, my mention of the legality was just to clarify my feeling on the issue. I feel a bit ridiculous, because I feel my growing is... I don't know... disrespectful, as I said, to the people who take on huge risks and are forced into precautions because of Nazi pinko rats running the countries where it's illegal.

The lineage? That sounds fancy. I will take a look and post what I know about it. Thanks for the advice!

Alright, I'm sorry I was a douchebag. X_X Wasn't intent on starting war with my first real post.

I haven't changed anything yet, really, because I'm a bit short on cash for a while. Likely though, I will bring the plants to sister-in-law's if I can't get a light soon. Her balcony is plunged in total darkness at night, and as the sun moves, she's actually beginning to get better light than me. Guess I'll stick to autoflowering varieties until I can actually afford something else.

Stinky, as for your inquiry, I haven't the faintest idea. I kinda went with something that was relatively easy to grow by what the growshop man told me. Here is a seller description: This self-inbred Black Domina is one of our most aromatic and strong strains. We selected this plant in 1998, a very favourite in Valencia and surroundings, winner in the second Valencian cannabis cup organized by ??Barraca de Maria? (2004).
The in-breeding of this ??supermother? produces resinous dense buds of intense aroma and musky flavours inherited from its afghan ancestors. SE1 seeds are very homogenous, so too will be its offsprings. Excellent for indoor growing and suitable for all kinds of outdoor areas. Easy harvesting and very resistant to pests and fungus.

I also found this while looking it up:
Sweet Afgani Delicious S1 »»» Indica (Afghanistan) x Black Domina
Black Domina »»» indica

Hope it serves some purpose!

Yes, thank you- the Black Domina is a very famous medical strain. You should be happy with your harvest... IF you fix your photoperiod! Get a timer!
