I was wondering if MMJ would help my dad? He has chronic pain in his back due to stenosis of his spine. The doctors don't recommend surgery as it is too risky for him -- he is 78 years old and had a double bypass a few years ago. He also has an inoperable torn rotator cuff and carpul tunnel syndrome that has left his hands numb. It is hard to see him in so much pain. He has never smoked in his life, but I'm wondering if it would help? Also, do you think it would be possible to convince someone his age that it might be good for him? He is so stubborn he won't ever take pain meds for fear of becoming addicted.

A lot of times using edibles works better for these kind of problems. Make him some brownies and see if they help. I'd use a light dose at first till you see his reactions.

That sounds good I don't think a 78 year old needs to be smoking. But then again I'm sure I will be

You need to click one of the links in my sig below, and scroll down to these categories-"addiction risk", "Neuropathic Pain", "Pain", "Safety" and "Spinal cord injury", or anything else that looks interesting. Then it's just pick and choose! I'm sure you will be able to put together what you need to show Dad.
A vaporizer would be much easier on his lungs. I have a MMJ friend who is asthmatic. When she smokes, she coughs and coughs. When she vapes, she smiles! :D The Vapor Brothers is of good quality (unlike some of the "look-alikes) and the price is reasonable (under $175, total) compared to a "Volcano" ($500).
If you decide to try edibles, look here-
