An Air-Canada pilot has a mental breakdown mid-flight and a flight attendant steps in to help land the plane! Seriously, when does this kind of thing happen?

That IS a bit unusual...isn't it. Wonder what ended up being wrong with him....doesn't sounds like booze or drugs with an 11 day hold in a mental ward and then flown by air ambulance to canada.
Don't know anything about the rest of the story do you?

I'd also like to know what happened. Maybe a seizure? but if thats the case, he wouldn't have gone to the mental ward.

the 58-year-old co-pilot had to be removed by attendants and sedated by two doctors on board.
they just carry drugs with them in case such an occasion comes up!?!? Sad thing is he just lost his career, he'll be lucky if he ever flies a cessna 172 again. seriously, how many times do you think that FA fantasized about saving the day with her rarely used expensive education that she couldnt put into practical application? LOL, life is funny how the same situation was someone worst day in life and someones best!

It says he passed a medical examination. Yeah well how bout a fucking MENTAL examination huh? Are these people kidding? When you're in control of hundreds of lives, good mental health is KIND OF necessary.

Maybe he suddenly realized he had an extreme fear of flying.

I dated a pilot in flight school once who CRIED when he had to take his instruments exam. The instructors make it as if it were totally fogged out conditions and you have to rely solely on the instruments to fly.
The dean of the flight school said " Well, we Will have to note this on your record!" LOL
However, he DID graduate.......scary huh?

It's just too bad though; too many people would flip at the idea of a high pilot. What would you bet though that weed would/could have saved the day? Imagine, an emergency joint in case of a mental breakdown like this...
"Sir, your freaking out, just take a hit."
.....
"Ahhh, that's better," :D lol

Imagine a world where a pilots lockbox contains both a loaded pistol and a loaded bong...just in case.
