Cheney's indictment in south Texas moves forward
By CHRISTOPHER SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer Christopher Sherman, Associated Press Writer â?? 1 hr 36 mins ago
RAYMONDVILLE, Texas â?? A Texas judge has set an arraignment for Vice President Dick Cheney, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and other officials accused of involvement in prisoner abuse.
Presiding Judge Manuel Banales (buh-NAHL'-ehs) said Wednesday he will allow them to waive arraignment or have attorneys present rather than appear in person Friday.
Banales also said he would issue summonses, not warrants. That allows them to avoid arrest and the need to post bond.
Willacy County District Attorney Juan Guerra (GEHR'-uh) accuses Cheney, Gonzales, a state senator and others of involvement in prisoner abuse at a federal detention center in south Texas.
Defense attorney Tony Canales (kuh-NAHL'-ehs) accuses Guerra of "prosecutorial vindictiveness" and not following procedure.
Remember that Al Capone was "brought down" on tax evasion charges- a rather petty crime! Here's hoping!
Happy Indictment Day, dick cheney, and MANY, MANY MORE!!! (Shuckins! The smilie has the wrong darn finger up!)

Why is it so shocking that it's going down in Texas?

Dai, I assume it's because Texas is the historical seat of the Bush family and that entire political machine would be assumed to center around there and still have some pull.
But times they are a-changin and apparently the political tide of Texas is not immune to the pull of the moon...
Good work guys, prisoner abuse is shameful and it's great to see y'all being pro-active about it.

it's shocking that it's going down in texas because the entire world knows that cheney is an architect of US foreign policy including the legalization of kidnapping/torture, the operation of foreign concentration camps that operate outside of established rule of law, and i faintly remember something about a prisoner abuse scandal linked to the bush administration that stretched across several countries in the middle east
soooooo, what did cheney do to prisoners in texas? serve bland meals?

Everyone would be surprised how little things revolve around the Bush Family in Texas.

hey hashi
thanks for the ABC link...it is a chickenshit charge that won't go anywhere...sounds more like an attempt to smear cheney...from the article:
"Cheney's indictment on a charge of engaging in an organized criminal activity criticizes the vice president's investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and "at least misdemeanor assaults" on detainees because of his link to the prison companies."

This will be slapped down quick. Nothing will come of it, except a few news stories about how it happened, then once it's laughed off the face of the earth you won't hear anymore about it.

If the Thought Police and the Inner Party do their job thoroughly, then you'll be right. The universe really is the cruel or indifferent world of King Lear if this evil fuck slips through justice's fingers. What a stain on humanity. Maybe sending him over to the Middle East for his execution would be appropriate. And no, I'm not speaking literally--just lock him away for a long while.

Of course I don't think he'll do time for this; I'm just looking forward to other shit possibly coming to light. He'd still, of course, receive some bullshit pardon even then....but a man can fantasize.

People like Cheney will get theirs...don't worry.
Bad people get that karma, not always through the courts. But he will.
And yes, to anyone who thinks he will even come close to feeling the justice system, you're a dreamer.
I say the same as someone did above, I wish he got the full tour of one of his concentration camps...
