View Full Version : Is this the solution?

So I gave up drinking alcohol 1 month ago. During the time that I drank alcohol, I also smoked bud, but not very often.
Now that I have given up drinking, I mean I was drinking ALOT, about half a case every night, I have replaced it with smoking bud regularly.
Is this a safer, healthier option? Or is this just robbing Peter to pay Paul?

If you were seriously drinking a half a case a night (what's that, like twelve beers?) then yes, cannabis is a FAR less damaging euphoriant (in fact, I'd say that cannabis on a daily basis is less damaging than TWO beers a night!). Your liver loves your decision and your lungs aren't too bothered by it !
EDIT: I just noticed your from the UK. Are you smoking straight bud or are you mixing tobacco in with it? (because it would be better if you didn't)

Smoking cannabis is a lot healthier. Prolonged heavy alcohol consumption wreaks havoc on your liver and kidneys, will fuck with your blood pressure, can lead to weight control problems, dehydrates you, can be a factor in aggravating diabetes, gout, pancreatitis, and others, adn is a central nervous system depressant. This means that the array of psychological and emotional problems you can aggravate by heavy drinking is pretty significant.
The chemical reason you get a high from alcohol is interrupting normal functioning of something in the brain, which I can't remember or explain off the top of my head, whereas humans actually have receptors for cannabinoids, and recent scientific studies have shown that even our own SKIN creates a chemical that is so similar to a cannabinoid that it functions by binding to the same receptors!
I can speak from personal experience as someone who used to drink heavily and has switched to pot as my inebriant of choice. Conveniently, it replaces the anti-anxiety meds I was on as well, and having no EtOH in my system has further stabilized my mood and I am a much nicer person (although that may be debateable this week... ugh) and feel like a million bucks. I have lost 25 lbs in the last year and a half, I'm less flabby and more energetic, I don't get crazy mood swings any more, I'm more productive at work, and I get sick less often.
Remember... alcohol is actually a poison to living things. Humans, the smartest of the animals, haven't managed to figure that one out yet, lol!

I mix tobacco with my joints. But I only roll them if I can be bothered to. I just hit my water bong.
I feel better about my decision now, on another positive note, I have lost half a stone and feel much healtheir since stopping drinking. I know that begs the question - "So why are you asking if your choice is right?" But I felt that what I was doing was perhaps masking an underlying issue or something...

It's possible that you might have a deeper psychological problem, but remember everyone has their drug, their little pressure release valve to help them deal with life. For some it's a literal chemical compound (of which there are those which are more physically harmful), for others it's sex or video games or music or whatever and not matter what it is it can become an impediment rather than a mere diversion, it can become your whole existence but only if you let it.

Just for us Americans who dont know (myself included) how much is a stone again? 10 pounds? 20 pounds? Every time I read George R.R. Martin and he's talking about someone weighing 8 stone, I get confuzzled.

You're right. But the results with using cannabis rather than drinking alcohol have improved with regard to quantity too. I can make an 1/8 last me a week so it doesn't seem so habit forming if that makes sense....
And a stone is 14 pounds if I remember correctly, so I have lost 7 pounds

But I felt that what I was doing was perhaps masking an underlying issue or something...A high percentage of heavy drinkers/alcoholics are self-medicating for some underlying issue. For me, it was anxiety, especially in social situations. Alcohol is a very inelegant way to treat anxiety though; I'd compare treating social anxiety by drinking to treating a headache with oxys! Also the effect is of very short duration and the come-down will let your problems come back as bad, or worse, than before. There are MUCH safer solutions over the long run, and cannabis is definitely one of them!
Good luck- sounds like you are already enjoying the change, eh?

It's, like, asking, which cake do you think is safer, the one made by these monks or the one made by God?
God made cannabis.
Okay, so say an alien race planted pot seeds, on Earth. I'd still rather eat the alien cake.
