I'm pretty new here, although I've been reading up for a year or two. Just to read though, never had time or privacy enough for an actual grow. I'm in college now, and have a little space. Took some seeds from a friend, got one to pop, and now she's (prayin' its a little girl) growing in the closet. I have 1 cfl 13w 900 lumens on it right now, and i have 2 more of the same bulbs ready to go whenever i figure a way to set them up (I've only had it going for 2 days). No unreal expectations for this grow, actually im just seeing what i can come up with before i have to leave home for christmas. I googled a whole lot and couldnt find anything about using neons for grow lights. Is there any way possible to get these to work? I can get them pretty cheap off of ebay, underglow for cars and whatnot. any tips or information would be appreciated, thanks.

Neons, negative. They won't do the trick, 3 13w'ers should get her through seedling and into veg stage. If you go CFL, get some 23/26 watts about 4 should do for one plant. And no growing in your dorm room, it breaks canna.com's laws.

This is the plant. I planted it yesterday, im not sure how its suppose to look. Maybe if i manage to take care of it correctly someone can tell me what strain it is?

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm in an apartment, no dorm life for me. About how much does it cost to operate one of those 400w beasts per month?

I wouldn't worry about the strain so much, you have to make sure she makes it all the way to your pipe first. Plus, almost impossible to identify strain by just looking at the plant. I'm out goodnight.

Not too worried about the strain, just a little curious. Thanks for all the help.

yeah 4 should do for one plant. if you can't think of a setup, go buy a lamp thats UL rated for 150W. any cheap one will do, but make sure the on/off switch is on the socket. then (if you haven't yet), buy 3 26W CFLs (2700 kelvin), and 3 26W CFLs (6500 kelvin). also, pick up 3 Y splitters for the socket of your lamp. disassemble the lamp you bought so you only have the cord and the socket. screw one Y splitter into your lamp, then one y splitter in each of the sockets of the first splitter. that'll give you four sockets to work with. and even with four 26W, you'll still be under the UL rating of the lamp. safety first!
use: 3 6500k bulbs & 1 2700 bulb for veg
use: 3 2700k bulbs & 1 6500 bulb for flower
good luck

Hey, i have another question. Is there a glossary on the site so i dont have to ask people what some things mean? I don't want to sound like i haven't done my homework y'know. Its just that some terms i cant even find in google. For example: what does DWC mean? Something to do with hydro bubbler systems? It doesnt seem imperative that i know what it means, but it would be nice. And also, this is a picture of my baby, just since yesterday. I had her in a 3 gallon pot, so i transplanted into a small cup and she seems to be doing fine. I'm having fun doing this, everyone on the site is great and a lot of help.:D

I have 2 400w lights. they run about $20 each a month. depends on the energy costs in your area.
People have done quite well with CFL only grows. So for your first go at it, i'd stick with CFLs. Lowes has a light fixture with 3 sockets that you can get for $9.98. You can then put a 2 bulb Y adapter in each socket to put 6 bulbs in the fixture. that should do you pretty well for 1 plant.
good luck.
skeet.
