Anyone wanna give me some feedback on some of this stuff? I will be keeping this going for sure and any help is needed! Thanks!

Grow Room: The set up is about half my closet made air-tight with a white shower curtain. If I had a guess at dimensions, I would say it is about 3'x2.5'x4'tall. The exhaust is an old floor furnace piping that runs from the basement out the roof. I removed a piece of it in the closet and hooked a 50cfm exaust fan with 4" ducting to go out the roof, and the intake is a hole in the floor revealing the basement. You can see in the pics that the air is all purified.

Lights: I am using 2 fixtures right now. Fixture A consists of (6) 23w 6500k CFL's and (2) 13w 2700k CFL's. It goes over the 2 "babies". Fixture B consists of (4) 23w 6500k CFL's and (1) 13w 2700k CFL. It goes over the big pot with all the "back-ups" incase the 2 good ones are males. (shutter)

These pics are the contents grow room and the room itself.

Ok, now for the good stuff. This is Day 18-19 of veg from seeds in a paper towel.

Plant A:

11-14-2008, 07:14 AM
This is Plant B. I would like some thoughts on this one if you guys do not mind. When normal plants grow shoots and colas, there is usually some sort of semmetry(?) with the leaves. Well, Plant B seems to only grow one side of a shoot at a time, in either direction. These pics should help explain.

All Plant B also 18-19 days from seed.

homegrow1967
11-14-2008, 07:17 AM
I might also add that I cut the lower 3-leaf beginner leafs out so the undergrowth can flourish on both! This created much visual improvement in just 1 day.

Nice setup, be sure to check the temperature. You got a nice kit of lights there, I'm quite sure they will be happy. The plant look healthy. Usually the MJ plant have a relative symmetric grow but this depend on a lot of conditions and the strain too change that. On my grow I got have a clone that got a little light burn and it made it grow in a weird way, don't worry your plants are not some kind of aliens ! :S2:

Looking good so far! From seed you usually don't see asymmetrical growth on the branch internodes until the plant is 'ready' for flowering. As you can see your B specimen doesn't want to follow those rules. Maybe it will be a real branchy one. I like your light fixtures by the way.

Thank both of you for looking and taking the time to post! This is truely my first grow so any info or tips help tremedously. Temp and humidity fluxuate, but always 77.5-81 degrees F and 45-55% humidity. I have a hygrometer inside ;) I am going to take a couple of pics to see if they stretched any since last night. I am actually trying to get them to stretch just a little bit to get ready for some LST. Is there any harm or benifit from removing the big, fat 7 leaves that are blocking the undergrowth, like the 2 beside the main cola on plant A?

Your plants are doing fine.

STOP CUTTING LEAVES.

They are abit undersized although very healthy. However if you continue to cut leaves, you are cutting power supply to the plant new growth.

Cease this practice at once. Only cut when :

you are topping a plant.
leves are dead / almost dead.

Those leaves are there for a reason. If you care about your plants, stop cutting them.

Days 7 - 28 determne gender. You are likely to force males with your cutting leaves.

Just as promised, here is a couple of updates. Notice how the big fan leaves on plant A thinned up and actually have space between the blades now.

1st pic is Plant A
2nd is Plant B
3rd are the "back-ups"

HARDDON
11-14-2008, 06:16 PM
That under growth you want will NOT flourish now that yo have cut their power supply.

Each fan leaf is dedicated to the secondary growth. The fans are there for a reason.

In flower, if you cut the fans, you will cease the flower growth.
In veg, if you cut the fans, you will cease the secondary growth.

It is a weed. Leave it alone.

Oh...lose the 2700K lights during this stage. Useless. Replace with more 5500K + bulbs.

homegrow1967
11-14-2008, 06:29 PM
Thank you Hardon for your input, I will no longer cut the leaves off, though the secondary growth doubled the night I cut them. Perhaps it was a fluke, but from now on I will just let it go wild. As for the lights, I thought you wanted a couple of 2700k's just to balance the spectrum. I am not disagreeing with you, just seeking a little more information. Thanks again!

Also, when is the best time to top the plants?

LuciferN
11-14-2008, 07:22 PM
You should alwasy have one plant per pot, even is they are back-up...

Time for an update, again. Looking for some feedback as usual  I haven't cut anything else since you guys said not to and the girls (fingers crossed) are doing well. They are a bit droopy in these pics due to a good misting I did about 5min before the pics. Let me know what you think!

Still looking for some "When to Top" info :D

Just a couple of questions I had in mind...

Should they be taller and more developed at this age?
I think I have 1 or 1.5 gallon pots, how long will this be sufficient?
When will I know it is time to transplant?

dooobster
11-15-2008, 07:18 PM
They look good! How old are they right now?
In my opinion, they're gonna get rootbound in those little pots...
It would be a good idea to transplant to some bigger pots a couple days before you plan to switch to 12/12 for flower.

Kickass CFL light fixture, too!

11-15-2008, 08:06 PM
Thank you Doobster, they are 20 days old from seeds. I am def going to transplant before flowering. I'm really anxious to top them or some kind of LST, but I am a noobie and dont really know when to do it. ill be back in about an hour or so to check for posts. Thanks again.

what kind of soil mix did u use? plants look good tho.

homegrow1967
11-16-2008, 04:26 AM
the soil was just a MG potting soil mix that was like a 4-1-2 or something. I was afraid I would burn the plants so I flushed it a few good times. I have been introducing some nutes with similar NPK ratios as the soil. I was and still am very broke and could not afford to do everything 100% pro

I know MG is terrible, but I had no choice. Thanks for the comment and I will put some pics of the soil mix and the fertilizer soon. Thanks for keeping the post rolling. Looking for a lot more posters! (especially with some info on topping and LST):stoned:

There's no need to top it... just get some 12" pipe cleaners from the crafts dept. at Wal Mart... $2.

Drill some holes around the rim of the pot... Bend your plant's main stem over gently.... Use the pipe cleaner, tying one end around the stem & then pulling the other end thru a hole in the rim of the pot & tying it off to hold the stem in the bent position.

It's easy. Here are some pics of LST's I've done.

Pic Updates: I topped plant B since it grows all crazy anyway and it seems to already be recovering. Thanks to everyone for all your information and tips so far, it really helps.

First 2 pics are Plant A
Second 2 pics are Plant B
Last pic is the undergrowth of Plant A (similar to plant B). I count 10 shoots for branches that already have 7-blade leaf production. It is very dense so I am thinking about tieing it down like Doobster explained. Seems to me from my own reading and what not that I have come across some kind of Indica strain. These plants don't seem to have any Sativa dominant traits that I can see.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks for all of the comments, or should I say compliments. I assure you that this log will continue to live as long as my "women" do. I will be fairly busy today, however I will be doing some tie down LSTing in about 8 hours so be ready for more pics

Any last minute tips are welcome, thanks again to Doobster for the pictorial illustrations.

Peace :stoned:

Oh, and how do I get an avitar? I have a pretty cool pic of one of the plants I photoshopped I wanna use.

I figured I would post a couple of pics because I am bored...

Pic 1 and 2 are the plants under the lights (finally figured out how to make it NOT wig the camera out).

Pic 3 is some supplies I went and picked up for some LSTing tonight... more pics on that later. Do you guys think it is too short to tie the top down? It has about 4 levels of shoots, about 10 shoots total, and I would LOVE to hit that undergrowth with some CFL love!

Keep checking up on this thread, I am on here quite often! Talk to me folks! :rasta:

They look really healthy, next pics you take you should pull them out from under the light to take a pic. I hope you get an hps to flower em! lol. even a 250w would do them justice.

Here it is, my first attempt at LST. Let me know what you think.

Pic 1 and 2 are Plant A. Do you think that undergrowth will flourish with all the new light, or is it doomed due to me cutting their powerhouses off?

Pic 3 and 4 are Plant B. It turned out to be the best one, probably because I didn't massacre it like i did Plant A and take all the big fan leaves off.

Pic 5 is both of the plants in the place of rest. The colas on both plants are turned toward the warm white bulb in hopes that it will turn back toward the 3 daylights the new shoots are knessled under.

Please feel free to make some comments, I will be watching :rasta:

Peace

Oh, and just for kicks... the backups, which I actually plan on vegging for about 2 more weeks or so, then flowering and smoking so I dont smoke my good ones :rastasmoke: They have actually really improved. I tied them all out to grow away from each other, and I topped all of them.

Check it out.

Also, is it possible to have a cloning station inside my growroom with the vegging plants?

Wow, not even one comment on the LST... I hope I did it right. I am about to post some pictures of the plants this morning which seem to have recovered already. The main cola has already grown back up straight again on both plants. I will be back shortly with a photo update.

Here we go...

Pic 1 and 2 are Plant A, as youcan see the undergrowth has already passed the height of the main cola that is tied off to the side now, at least over 1" of growth in the first 12 hours. I actually shocked... what do you think?

Pic 3 and 4 are Plant B, just as strong as yesterday with a considerable amount of growth. If you guys remember, it was the one that had the odd growing pattern of 1 shoot in a random place at a time. It seems to be the better of the 2 just a short 4 or 5 days later.

Pic 5 is my "Get Some Smoke Fast" Project, otherwise known as "GSSF FOR REALS" :pimp:

I'm actually really high at the moment.

WHERE DA COMMENTS IS??

Pics 1-3 are Plant A
Pics 4 and 5 are Plant B.

When do you think they will need to be transplanted?
Also, how much does the plant grow once switched to 12/12?
One more... When should I see some preflowers or some sign of possible sex?

Hey guys, I didn't forget about all of you watching. Here is a couple of updates and a lot has happened since I last posted. First of all, I constructed a Vegbox out of (2) 30 or 35 gallon Rubbermaid boxes. More on that with pics later when I get my new seeds germinated so I can put them in it. Now, what you see here in these pics are the new light fixtures I constructed using (10) 23w 2700k CFLs. They are in the closet which is now the designated flowering area. Also, there are (3) 23w 6500k CFLs in-between the two rows of 5 WWs. The pics of the plants are day 2 of flowering after about 5-6 weeks of vegging root-bound as hell. They are now in 5gal buckets and doing nicely. Tell me what you guys think

the plants are looking good. I am about 4 weeks into my first grow ever. This shit is fun. I just ordered some 65w/300w equivilant cfls today(flowering for next stage and veg for next go around). about $20 each. Its bagseed but of a very high quality.lol. I wanted to test this out first but I got some cheese on the way(yummy). Until i can get a digital camera i will be comparing mine to yours since they are about the same age and your look so good. if you want to check out the bigger cfls at a nice price and optional kelvin temp. its at Express Light Bulbs - Factory Direct Bulbs (http://www.expresslightbulbs.com). good luck

OK, day 8 of 12/12 now, and plant A and B are both females. I tried to get a pic of the hair but my camera is not wonderful. If you look close enough you can see it in pic 5. I ordered some FF nutes: Grow Big, Big Bud, and Tiger Bloom, so I will be flushing the soil with 15 gallons of water for each 5gal bucket, then start them on a low dose. I am just going to go by the schedule on the bottle and pic up at about week 2 of flowering, half dose of course. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can distill 30gal of water really quick? Is there some kind of additive I can get like the stuff you use for fish aquariums to instantly make the water safe of flushing? Also, I am about to start my second crop since the seeds are germinating. This time, I have some Scott's Seedling soil or Seeding soil or something, and I plan on mixing about 30/70 perlite to soil. Is this a good mixture to use with my new FF nutes? The soil is something like 0.08N-0.04P-0.04K, so do you think I can use this mix for flowering and vegging since it is nearly an anutritious mix?
Thank you guys for all the help so far. I'll check in soon.

Peace

Just scored a 230cfm 4inch duct fan for $18 :) It runs on a 12v connection, but could I hook up something like a 9v just to cut the CFM down a bit or is there such a thing as "too much ventillation"? Also, my nutes came in early from Wormsway.com. Less than $50 for the 3 bottles with 2day shipping. Really amazing place to shop around at. Here is a pic of the new toys.

And I really desperatly need to flush the soil on my 2 ladies. What should I do?

I am going to pick up on week 6 of the FF feeding schedule (half -strength) with my next watering, which will be tomorrow I'm guessing. The plants responded very positively to the 10gal flush of water for each one, and I can't wait to slam them with some Tiger Bloom and Big Bud.

Thank You, Funky. I honestly have no idea about what strain it is, maybe you guys can help me out with that. They were just a couple of bagseeds I had stashed away because they were fat and black with something similar to tan tiger stripes running through them. Here is a couple of updated photos while I am here.

Pic 1 and 2 are Plant A.
Pic 3-5 are Plant B.

Additionally, I will be back online a little later to post a couple of pics of my veg/clone box I constructed.

Inside the box, it stays about 78 with about 50% humidity. Inside the humidity dome box thingy, it stays about 78-80 with 80-90% humidity. Do you think my clones will work nicely under these conditions with the new Olivia's Cloning Gel I bought?
