me and my girlfriend are trying to move out of our place but I need a better job to afford where we want to move and there are absolutely NO jobs hiring that are worth even applying for. Its ridiculous.

Im finding awesome paying jobs, like $16-20/hourly, but theyre all either part time or less, and some even seasonal!

Is anyone else in a similar predicament?

Worse - I'm living in a city with around 17% unemployment. There are no jobs, seasonal or otherwise. I've been signed up with three temp services for months now - they've yet to send me a single job. The only jobs that I've been able to find so far, I'm apparently "overqualified" for. WTF? I've put in hundreds of job applications and heard nothing back - in the last seven months, I've had a total of 4 interviews.... and no job offers.

I'd LOVE to be living somewhere where a $16 - $20 an hour part time/temp job wasn't even worth applying for!! Hell, I'd be thrilled if I could land even a couple weeks of seasonal work. Unfortunately, I have a home and mortgage here, I'm two months behind on the mortgage but struggling to keep up - so I can't leave for someplace with a functioning economy. I'm stuck here waiting for things to turn around.

Shit... I don't even know anyone who makes $16.00 an hour... let alone $20.00!

I actually just found a neat job at a shooting range that I applied for. Maybe theyll let me pop off rounds after my shifts over for free! thatd be kinda cool.

Best of luck to You and Yours: it's tough all over.
I spent 3 months diligently job hunting and finally landed a position that I'm happy with. But I do feel your plight and know how difficult the economy is on everyone right now: the hardest possible job is actually looking for one.

My advice to ANYONE looking for work is to use those online search engines for employment; (monster.com, hotjobs.com, (your city's name)hasbetterjobs.com, etc. BUT: be sure to create a separate email acct. specifically for those sites. I've stopped my search for well over half a year now and they still send updates despite the fact that I've deleted my acct. and asked them several times to stop sending alerts my way.

Doesn't sound right that you can walk in off the street and get a job around firearms. Did they do a background check?

why would you need a background check to 'work around guns' ... criminals don't need anything to steal guns, and use them in crimes ... :wtf:

Just be happy that you don't have being a business owner thrown in the mix. Gross reciepts are down 90%, and the IRS just sent me a letter that I have to pay them an additional $4500 by Dec 31 :wtf:

I didnt just 'walk in off the street'. I sent them my resume along with an application and of course they do background checks. Give me a break, every retail store in california does background checks, why would you think a shooting range wouldnt?

thanks for making me feel lesser!

Move to Canada boys. Here in Winnipeg the UR is around 5%. Work is easy to come by, but thats the thing: it's work.

NextLine, you should take one of those shit jobs while you're looking for the dream. If nothing else, at least it will pay off the gas money you burn while job hunting. And remember that you start as low man on the totem pole, no matter your qualifications. You might have to work weekends. Big deal. As soon as the next new guy is hired, those weekend shifts are gone. It's better to have something than nothing at all.

And I was serious about the move to Canada. While we may follow your every economic move because we too suck the proverbial American teet, it's a different situation. For the last few years, skilled labour has been in dire need. I started at $20/h last summer doing road construction. And if you get on with the City like I did, primo. I worked Tuesday to Friday, 7 to 5. Three day weekends all the time. It's a nice setup.

You should try it here in lil Rhodey, biggest unemployment rate in the country at a whopping 10.4 percent! Gotta love it....

yeah the economy sucks right now...hopefully this new economic plan obama is promising will do something to turn things around ...my income has dropped by atleast 40% in the last year and i sell tools to the federal gov. u know your in trouble when the federal gov. is broke... i have had this job for 10 years and i have never seen it this bad...normally if we are slow u just wait for a new quarter to hit and they get their new budgets...this year every quarter has gotten worse and worse.... and when i ask my customers when they think things are gonna turn around all they say is they are gettin more and more budget cuts and layoffs... its kinda hard to sell a guy drill bits when he just had to lay off half his crew...oh well... hopefully now that democrats are back in office the gov will tax the hell out of the big business owners and ill get a break...either way its just shifting the problem from one place to another...

you're bitching about the economy and you can find 16-20 hourly for seasonal work. for some reason im just not seeing the problem here. even if it is pt or seasonal, if you have the right work ethic they will keep you.

True Canada has been looking for skilled workers but, they wont let just anyone immigrate.
