You need to tell us or show us more about the system. A link to go look at it. Or an addy. Some one can probably make it cheaper. Light is what is most important.

They say on that page you need to get a timer for the water cycle. That setup looks very interesting. About 15 minutes every 2 to 4 hours of water. Any that don't have a plant just drips by itself.
Get a good light. The bigger the light the bigger the BUD.

with 16 I would go with 2 of the 400 watt. Kind of spreads the light out more and those diamonds, I have never seen, the others are just as good.
Interesting in a good way. I would like to see it up close so I could maybe copy it in some way. I don't have the space so I would have to modd it.
Get the bluelab CF meter it will last and the hobby PH meter some calibration fluid for the PH meter. At least a litre of PH up and down. I would suggest General Hydroponics Flora 3 part. A litre of each to start. What I do not see is cal-mag plus. You need it or something like it if you use R/O or distilled water or poor water.

i was going to rig them up for there to be 1 lamp to 4 plants
the lights will be suspended buy using a peice o hard bored with a mylar side on it. with 4 holes for my lamps what do you think?

Yes those lights would be good for veg growing but you may need 8 insted. You need alot of CLF.
However they are real good for seedlings and clones but once past that stage in hydro I can get twice as much veg growth with a 400 MH. Then on to flower under a 1000 HPS.
The board sounds good but not nessesary. You need good air circulating more than the light That would reflect.

and what could i use to get rid of smells comletly for 16 plants?

anyything over a 400 is going to produce plant killing heat, just find your self a few cheap fans and you could be allright

how big do you intend to grow them? several good fans and filter combos will help with the heat and smell, if you plan on keeping them short 2 400's should be ok.if it was me and i had 16 med.large sized plants i would be using 3 600's with wide reflectors and air cooled hoods linked together. and I'm not sure if i really understand y you wouldn't do cfls to start. cfls are cheap....... like several hundred dollars cheaper than any hps systems. ok i took this off there site..."whilst the 16 and 20 plant versions are 122cm x 110cm x 45cm tall (including pots). " this is a better way to go about this question, how long is this system in u.s measurements, length and width?? this is the most important question.

I was trying to figure out the conversion on size myself. OK, 48 x 43 x 18 inches. Almost 4x4 I would go with 1-1000watts but that's me a 600 will do the whole thing. CLF's are good if you need to veg for a while. And cheap on electric. I think if you go some where close to you like hardware store and check out some 4 foot 2 tube fixtures. Real cheap. I would get 3 and some good daylight bulbs. That's 6, 4 foot tubes over a 4x4 area.
I like the Idea of venting the hoods for the bigger lights.
Yes the big lights give off big heat. You will need venting and A/C.
You need the HPS light to flower. You can with the clf's or floro's but you will be disapointed.
Heat and smell will be your worst problem. Are you sure you can handle the paranoia ???

if your room is that small just get one 600 watt or a 1000, personally i think the 1000 is a little over kill. hell you could even by a conversion bulb and buy just the one light system. say you buy the 1000 watt for $300 bucks you can get a conversion bulb for about $100 that a total of $400, its going to cost you that much just to buy 2- 400 watts anyways.

try to see if you can find "daylight" bulbs instead of the warm or cool bulbs. The daylight bulbs are around 6500k on the light temp scale and that is what you need for veg ( very high on the blue side of light spectrum ). I know these bulbs can be bought at walmart, lowes and home dePOT in CFL form but not sure about the 4' tubes. Prob can be bought online at 1000bulbs.com for a cheap price. Also when it comes to the MH and HPS bulbs these also can be purchased at your local Lowes and Home dePOT, atleast in the 400w size.

Yes get daylight tubes and yes a 4 foot tube is 36 watts. that's ok.
You could go with a conversion bulb but flouro's will due for veg cycle.
A 600 watt HPS is all you need for flower.
This is how I setup my lights. I used to and will do flouro's for beginning veg.
I have a 1000 HPS with ballast and a 400 MH conversion to finish veg. They love it. The secret to high watt lights are get the biggest ballast you can handle. A smaller bulb than the ballast will work. That's how I use the 400 MH in a 1000 watt ballast. It has to be a HPS or MH type ballast and conversion bulb to work accordingly. They have New ballast will work for both with out problems or conversion bulbs. Big bucks though.
So get a 600 or 1000 ballast HPS or digital ballast for both. A 600 watt HPS hortilux or sunmaster bulb. If you want to veg later you can get a MH bulb just make sure it's conversion if you get a HPS ballast.
My bro's 400 HPS blew on him and days to order one. I got him a regular 250 HPS at slowes till new bulbs come in. Now he runs the 250 untill they get big enough for the 400. He thinks he is saving money and maybe. It works.
Are ya confused enough now ? Go get the flouro's you can think about the others you have time.
