Alright everyone. I've been around on the forums for a while, giving advice when i can, and soaking up as much knowledge as possible. Finally got most of what i need to start a (hopefully) perpetual grow.

Just gonna list what i do have for now, sorry if it gets a little long.

CLONE/VEG AREA:
-small cabinet completely lined with reflective insulation, able to take 4 CFLs
-4-site DIY bubble cloner that will also be used to grow girls up till they go into flower area
-currently running 2- 23W 5k CFLs
-head room in cabinet will allow me to get to ~1' before moving them to flower
-will eventually add a fan to supply fresh air and exhaust heat
FLOWERING AREA:
-old wardrobe from my garage mostly covered in reflective insulation (working on finishing)
-4-site ebb/flow table with ~3 gallon reservoir
-equipped to handle 12 CFLs
-250cfm inline duct fan for exhaust at top of cab
-passive intake at bottom of cab
-2 fans inside for circulation

as for the strain i'm working with, i'm unsure. clone from a friend grown from really good bag seed. i grew one plant to finish of this strain, and it turned out really nice. very smooth smoke, fruity taste. the friend who gave me the clone said it could be blueberry, as some of the bags he got the seeds from smelled like blueberry and (he said) my final product resembled that. so, possible blueberry genetics.
now as for nutrients, i have nothing that is hydroponic approved. finished out the one plant with diluted soil nutes (i know, big no-no). but i will be ordering some GH nutes in the future.
THE PLAN: i'm going to take a clone, grow it up in veg area, then place it in the flowering area. two weeks later, same thing. then again, then again. when i put the 4th clone into the flowering area, the first comes out. make sense? i titled this StrOG because it won't be a full-on SOG, more of a Stream Of Green. :jointsmile: harvest weight of the plant i finished was just under 20g dried. so, every two weeks i'll harvest about 1/2oz (thinking on the low end).
I'm just starting the whole cloning process, so within 2-3 weeks, the 1st clone should go in. that should give me time to get my nutes and stuff. then the fun begins.
before i sign off, i have to thank all of you who've shared your ideas and experiences with us here on canncom. and i thank you in advance for your input, suggestions, and constructive criticism. sorry for the long post, just wanna be thorough.

okay this last one is the interior of my clone/veg cab. those two on either end are cuttings taken from a friend's opium strain. very difficult to clone. those two in the middle though are the strain mentioned in my first post. the branchy one will be re-cloned soon.

those 2 are the opium strain. apparently a bitch to clone. but yes those two aren't doing so hot. just kinda seeing if they'll take before i start the StrOG. if they do, they'll be mothers for a friend and i. notoriously huge buds on that strain, so hopefully they take.

Hey all. I'm gonna order the following on wednesday:

-Canna Aqua Vega Part A - 1 liter
-Canna Aqua Vega Part B - 1 liter
-Canna Aqua Flores Part A - 1 liter
-Canna Aqua Flores Part B - 1 liter
-10 liters of Hydroton (expanded clay pellets)
-2 floating thermometers (one for flower cab's reservoir & one for cloning/veg cab's reservoir)
-2 min./max. thermometers/hygrometers (one for each cab)
-a pack of 40 6" light blockers for containers (prevent light from reaching roots)

also, i've discovered that i can light-proof some 2 liter bottles (good ol' duct tape) and use those as my containers in my flowering cab. they screw in perfectly where the stock containers do, and will allow at least 2x the root space, maybe 3x.

growth is good in the cloner. TONS of new growth on "the branch." the smaller clone i have (of same strain as the branch) continues to healthily develop its roots, so no vertical growth yet. the little sativa has more than doubled in height, which is sad because i'm seriously considering chucking it. here's why: the reason i cloned it in the 1st place was because it was in poor health when i got it, and too big for the (only) container i had to put it in. so i figured i'd clone it and start from scratch. however, it turned hermie on me, and i'm not really wanting to continue a hermie-prone strain. especially a sativa, when i'm growing indoors with limited headroom. there is still no roots to be seen on the opium strains. :(

i also picked up some salvaged items from a friend who was tossing out his old aquarium. i snagged the heater, a small air pump (unknown rating), and a "T" coupler for aquarium tubing. i've already attached both pumps to my single airstone with the "T" coupler. not sure where i'll put the heater though. right now i'm leaning towards the flower cab's reservoir, since i'm pretty sure the temp of the cloner water is good enough for now. i'll probably make my decision after i get those two floating thermometers, and just leave the heater out of the equation for now.

i'm off to research other peoples experience/recommendations for Canna nutes now. stay safe.

alright, so...
i'm a bastard and haven't had much to update on, but now that will change.

officialy ordered the nutes (almost a week late... god, i suck) hopefully they'll be here soon. had to go money order route, so delayed shipping. grr...

as for the ladies, shed a tear for me everybody, cause i lost the two opium clones i had. but, before that tear hits the floor, smack it outta the air and remember you're a machine; you don't have emotions! no, but really cool: got 3 more clones of em. hooray! the story is as follows: recieved 3 more clones from a friend. 2 have a shot at life, the other - probably not (just cut too short). the 3 have been in the cloner for 4 days now and are not showing the yellowing that the last ones did. the did yellow a bit around the leaf edges, but have stopped now. so, one more shot at the opium. nice.

as for the other (so-named "6") clones i have rooted, they're both doing fine. had to add small amount of my old veg fert to stabilize the "branch's" hunger/yellowing. speaking of the branch, she will soon go into the flower cabinet, but i will veg her out a bit more.

timeline (hopefully) will proceed like such:
rest of this week i'll be finishing up the flower cab (adding more reflective insulation, light proofing the res and container cups, etc.)
next monday, the branch will give me a few clones and be put into the flower cab (irony) to veg a little more. hopefully i'll have my order by then
sometime soon i hope for pics.

I'm working on the same kind of rotation except I wanna do 5 plants every two weeks, or every week, I'm still waiting for clones to take off. First batch should be going this week!! love your setup, kinda of like mine with the stealth.

He's my new flower chamber. Set up for 12 lights min/24 max. Or I was thinking about building another chamber, get Y splitters, one fixture in each box and BANG!! 5 every week.

BUMP!! How them clones doing GG? I got small roots on most of the first batch, probably go into flower next week if all goes well. Been taking clones every week, think I got this strain down, plus I'm getting some cloning gel tomorrow and hopefully that'll do better than this powder shit.

i ordered from: Hydroponics | Hydroponic Supplies (http://www.bghydro.com) (only good things to say about them. live chat is available for tech questions, and shipping was one day earlier than they quoted. recommended!)

each one was $11.60. i just ordered 1L "canna aqua vega" and "canna aqua flores" each to see what they work like. they also offer "canna terra vega" & "canna terra flores" for soil grows. stinkyattic uses canna nutes in her hydro stuff.

i've seen someone on here get really nice results with hempy buckets, but google search found me nothing. didn't dig too deep though.

well, i needed ventilation. i bought a 6" inline duct fan but i only had a 4" hole bit. so i got a 6" to 4" reducer to make the inline duct fan fit the hole i drilled.

got my entire room (mostly) cleaned up. if you guys wanna see, i'll post pics of the (for now) setup later.

1st pic is just some new growth on the clone that should be ready for the flower cab in 2-3 weeks.

2nd pic... hooray! the start of life anew! crappy pic, but you can see the roots developing, both foreground and background. (background should be ready for flower cab in 4-5 weeks)

3rd pic is my sick new air pump (bought today). doesn't have a rating i can find, but it powers my 14" airstone perfectly! never so many bubbles! thank you for crushing small business owners, wal-mart! you've allowed me a sweet air pump for fifteen dollars! :)

4th pic is the clone/veg thermometer/hygrometer. the temp dropped from 76.6* and the RH dropped from 60% from opening the cab for the previous pics.

i was gone for an early family christmas this past weekend. was gonna raise my lights, but felt comfy where they were relative to the plant. once i got back, i was not disappointed. they grew, but not into the light. the clones are doing okay. the smaller one has about 90% yellow leaves, but roots coming in well. no real awesome updates, but by next monday, i'll switch the big cabinet to 12/12.

hooray! the "beginning signs of life" pic on the previous page has officially started a bad-ass root system. i've given up on cloning the opium strain for now. no prob, as a pal has a good mother plant of it.

so, i know i said 12/12 will start monday, but i just may have to do it earlier. no complaints here, but i'm gonna take 2 more clones from the branch first.

ugh... sigh...

so, (again) i'm a bastard with no pics for now. i got really involved with grow work last night and when i was done, i just wanted to crash out.

so for now, just a text update. last night i moved the bigger clone into the flower cab. debated a while about switching to 12/12 then and there, but decided to leave it on a veg schedule to let the clone get some of those delicious canna nutes and acclimate to the more intense light. i was not prepped at all for this move, so i had to light-proof another 2 liter before i could put her in the cab.
i also decided to do a reservoir change on the bubble cloner. this was because i took 3 cuttings and wanted the best for 'em. so, dumped the old water, disinfected with lysol, then gave a good rinse in the shower. i also disinfected the air-stone, the tubing for the air stone, the heater, and the floating thermometer. these all got a good rinse too, especially the airstone. then refilled the reservoir, pH-ed it down to 5.8, and cut new sections of pipe insulation for the clones. i moved the clone that is already rooted to the end of the cloner that gets the least bubbles, so the new gals i took can get the more intense mist action.
i took two clones with just one growth tip, and one with two. i'm kinda interested in seeing if i can keep cloning little branches. hell, the most successful ones so far have had 3 and 4 growth tips!
i did have a question, and its more out of laziness than anything else. i was just wondering what an ideal reservoir temp would be for the bubble cloner. i know i could find the answer, but can someone give me a freebie? the other question is regarding thanks in advance.
i will put pics up tonight since i did all the leg-work last night and can just relax and let the timers go.

Hey bud, I'm back after crashing my hard drive on my laptop. I "set it down" too hard I guess. If I had to guess res temp I would go 70-75.

My road has been bumpy and my clones are very slow to root. My oldest are like 21 days and some have the white pre-root ball but no actual roots. I'm very disappointed to say the least.

But hey I got one like on week 6 of flower and just threw one mom in there too so she at like week 2. I got like 10 new sprouts, 3 of this last kind and some mystery beans whoopie.

But enough thread jacking for one day, let's see some pics.

alas, the site came back up at a sad time for me. all my ladies have finished at week 7 of flower. i have re-evaluated my StrOG, and am slowly going to be changing my setup. i may go all DWC, but its more likely that i'll just add 2 or 3 2-site DWCs to my current ebb & flow. i dunno, but it'll be mostly DIY. i snapped a few pics after the site went down, but got discouraged when it didn't come back up, so deleted them. i have one final top drying and i'll take a pic around 5pm.

so, anyway. what i've been up to: i am the best friend ever

i have a friend who's been growing since he bought his house 2 years ago. at that time, i knew next to nothing about cultivation of cannabis. i was excited that a friend was growing pot. now, time has passed and i've educated myself, and started a small, personal operation myself. now, i went to celebrate the birthday of my friend's son this past weekend. i thought that since he grew, i'd give him a clone of what i work with. my clones were not ready when i was leaving, so i built him a DWC bucket and gave him my smallest mother plant, after taking 2 clones.
when i got to his place and unpacked his gift, you'd think he'd never seen pot before. then we looked at his current grow cabinet. i'm so happy i was able to educate him a bit on what he was doing wrong. he had 2 - 2' tall plants with only 8 nodes on one and 9 on the other. he was using 2 2' T12 2700k bulbs and 2 halogen bulbs. whoops. something else funny he told me after i explained lighting cycles and flowering: he said his plants took forever to finish budding. it was because when he'd see pistils, he switched it to 24/0 thinking that it would benefit them. another whoops. so we pretty much tore apart his grow, made a bubble cloner and a seperate veg area, cut some clones and began flowering his stretched ladies.

on my end, things are going okay. got one of them opium strain clones rooted and growing. another #6 clone is ready to pop roots and after i cut some more, the #6 mother will go into flowering. i think i might just go buy a new digi cam.

well since i can't have dogs at my place (too many mean neighbor dogs to raise a puppy), and i love pets, i have 3 cats. they use a lot of litter. so basically, i was looking for something easily constructed and easily maintained to add to my flower cabinet. so taking an empty 35# bucket (thanks, cats), i made a 2" hole in the top (which is hinged already - sweet) and then used the pipe insulation to wrap around the stem base. shoved that in the hole i drilled, added a small airstone and pump, mixed 3 gallons of nutes and BOOM! very nice mother-keeping setup, or could be altered to support 3-4 plants, which is probably what i'll do. best part was, it took me 8 minutes to gut, cut, and complete. peaking your interest, am i? :jointsmile:

thanks DTRave! so, here's the crappy picture. this was the last branch i harvested, also the biggest. wet weight was 28.3g. dried and cured was 8.6g. not bad considering the plant it came from had 8 tops, and the smallest, dried and cured, was 3.1g.

well since i can't have dogs at my place (too many mean neighbor dogs to raise a puppy), and i love pets, i have 3 cats. they use a lot of litter. so basically, i was looking for something easily constructed and easily maintained to add to my flower cabinet. so taking an empty 35# bucket (thanks, cats), i made a 2" hole in the top (which is hinged already - sweet) and then used the pipe insulation to wrap around the stem base. shoved that in the hole i drilled, added a small airstone and pump, mixed 3 gallons of nutes and BOOM! very nice mother-keeping setup, or could be altered to support 3-4 plants, which is probably what i'll do. best part was, it took me 8 minutes to gut, cut, and complete. peaking your interest, am i? :jointsmile:

totally! i want to get into hydro and don't have much room at all right now (although we are moving soon, yea!). so one bucket might be a possibility (and i have two cats!). and i definitely need an HPS! i'm trying to convince some buddies to finance this mad scientist. i blew my friends mind when i showed him what i was working with in soil after he smoked some locally grown white widow that he was jocking!

it will hopefully be coming together soon. i am gonna upgrade either way, like i keep saying. one of these days.

Yeah, I'm a take this bitch over soon with my STRoG. Good news I got a heat pad. $15 bucks pharmacy section. Got my res temps at 74 right now toying with my timer to try and get them down to 70ish. If I leave the mat on all the time, it will be too warm.

Luckily, i picked up a timer for a buck at the local "good will", not called that tho, has 15 min. settings so I am trying to find a good setting like 30 min off, 15 min on. Still trying to figure it out. But clones are looking good on day 3!!

Check my log when you get a chance, and rememeber...it's not a log.

well, not much to update with, really. my lapse of care on the StrOG has been corrected, and if i get 50% of my clones to root every time, i'll be harvesting 1-2 ounces every two weeks. so far, i got 4 super healthy clones about 12" tall, 4 more starting roots and 4 more cut only two days ago. i think i'll just chop clones every week to be sure i stay "in the money."

one other thing, i'm currently flowering my last mother DWC-style in one of those 35 lb. kitty litter buckets. need a better air pump, but that thing is going crazy. i shouldn't be too surprised, as this is the 1st flower in which their roots weren't restricted. so, yay for that. i'm in the (slow) process of cleaning out the closet in that bedroom and making a mother area in there. think 6 - 4' T12 fluoro tubes would be enough for two moms(2 bulbs above and 2 bulbs either side)? i will not spend anymore $ on lighting until i get a HPS.

good to hear about that heating pad, lit. my local nursery sells seedling mats with an adjustable thermometer. 1'x2' costs $15. 2'x2' costs $20.

you should be good with the 4 - T12's for the mom's in there. it really just depends on how quickly you want them to regenerate for new clones. At 4 per week, I think you should be fine.

hey lit, i'm going to be running a pretty nice outdoor show for sure. next weekend i'm heading out to find a few more spots (trying to find a total of 10 spots to reduce loss). you should join in the outdoors GG!

hahaha, that's funny, that is kind of my plan.

i'm right outside a city so random forest is limited. this years plan is "set it and forget it". i won't be torn up if none of it comes through, i'm not depending on it for anything.

lit - yeah, i'll be doing some outdoor this year. but it'll be for my folks, as my mom is gonna be recovering from back surgery for about another 9 months. i'll put in the work, and my parents will reap the rewards. i'm sure i'll benefit too so its nice to give my ma some meds.

shov - most appreciated, sir! it went through some K and mag deficiencies but recovered pretty well. the curl in leafs was due to a res change and i didn't let my water warm to adequate temps. thanks for the kind words again!

the lining of my cab is reflectix insulation. the biggest benefit for me so far has been temp control. i think weezard posted once that it was 90% reflective, but i'm not sure. its dimpled texture helps to spread light evenly is what i've noticed. i got mine at menards. $40 for a 6'x50' roll.

the trash cans i use are a 4 pack from sams club. they are rubbermaid office solutions wastebaskets. they are 28 quart capacity or 7 gallons. dimensions are 14.5"x10.5"x15.25". the 4 pack cost about $13.

i use each can with a $13 air pump from walmart, 6" bubble wand (under $2 @ walmart), and i picked up 25' of black aquarium tubing for $4 at petco.

i have a lot of thin plastic from old poster frames laying around, so i exacto knife out an lid for each, then double wrap them in duct tape. i'm gonna start sprat painting the lids with flat black though. i worry about the duct tape's adhesive causing trouble with the water. after that, i take a 2" hole bit, drill a hole in the middle of the lid, then use the same pipe insulation from my bubble cloner to support the plant around the stem.

and yes that opium was the very same i had such a hard time cloning. i got that little bitch under control now though. she's picky, but not too picky. i'd love to fire a clone off to you, man! though we both know this is impossible, this is a delightful smoke. when they say opium-like high, they mean it. quite a fruity aroma before combustion and just as sweet a taste in the mouth.
