How do you guys feel? Do you think we've taken a step forward in marijuana decriminalization? I'm just kind of in shock right now..

I'm not surprised at all, money is what makes the world go round, and Obama did not pull any punches as far as advertising and campaign funding go, and our economy is in a shithole. Our economical state was crucial to the victory of Obama, and Barack capitalized on this political opportunity.

Marijuana decriminalization, however, is not any closer than it once was. "Our" victory will lie in the hands of the new elected officials in congress. Marijuana advocates must realize that meer INFORMATION is our foundation for future success. If we inform our public, that also counts as informing and/or persuading those who are in office to pass our bills in the first place.

according to a video i saw on the mpp homepage, both mccane and obama support medical marijuana. tho i will say, obama seemed to be more believable as he was speaking on the subject. the one's that will really make the decision will be our congressman tho, so make sure you send out your letters!

I believe with a Congress Dem majority and prez obama, those 2 house bills that we all love so much have much potential chance of getting somewhere or at least stirring up debate.

Bush's 8 years had made politicized our science whether it was global warming or marijuana research. I'm sure Obama will do a better job in that regard, and i can only hope the congress will work along the same line as him

America 1, Neocons 0.

Even though I've been watching the polls, I couldn't shake the sense of dread that somehow this election would be stolen somehow until now.

The Republican party is sunk for the foreseeable future - the lies that their faithful foot-soldiers have spent the last few months repeating (even on the forums here) ad-nauseum didn't stick and what little veneer of credibility they had left is gone.

Let's just hope that with the clear mandate that the new Democratic congress and Democratic administration has earned is taken to heart. Ever since I've been old enough to follow politics, the Democratic party has been the party of compromise aiming toward an ever-moving middle ground which has been further and further to the right. Let's hope that now they grow some balls and stand up for the values that the party is supposed to represent.

Congratulations America, we won. :-)

We will see at a minimum the partial federal regulation of medical marijuana during his term..I can nearly assure you of that. Obama very clearly say's to treat it like any other prescription drug in several interviews. he also said I inhaled because that was the point the dude is definitely green..there is no doubt about it.

the taxes and rev raised from legalization not just for medical reasons....but the legalization of the plant itself..... would give the U.S. economy a nice kick in the ass:thumbsup:

might as well do the same with prostitution.........Amsterdam....US style:D

I think if congress or anyone in the Senate wanted MJ to be decriminalized or leagleize they would have done so by attaching the bill as a rider to a bill that they knew Bush would most certainly sign, And when He does it would be law too. thats how you get the fabled 700 page bill in Washington. 1 bill with 200 riders attached. When the first bill is signed they all are law. They "RODE" in on the first bill.
No one did that because they were fearful of federal ridicule.
You states that have it leagleized should ask your congress to draft a bill for total medical MJ use nationwide or better yet desciminalization, as your stsates allow it by the peoples demand there for your congress people have nothing to loose. Where as oour are fearful of ridicule and bieng voted out!:(

If we inform our public, that also counts as informing and/or persuading those who are in office to pass our bills in the first place.

I would disagree that marijuana decriminalization is not closer than it once was. I think it DEFINITELY is closer after this election:

At least 254 Democrats (8 races still up in the air) will take office in the House of Reps.; 218 seats are needed for a majority. The current decriminalization bill in the House (HR 5843 Congressman Barney Frank - Representing the 4th District of Massachusetts (http://www.house.gov/frank/marijuana041708.html)), backed by Mass. congressman Barney Frank, is far more likely to be recognized and gain momentum in a Democratic House. Not only that, liberal-leaning Democrats are far more likely to vote in favor of the bill than conservative Republicans.

The Senate is projected to have anywhere from 56 to 60 Democrats at this point. 4 races are still being tallied.

Additionally, the President ultimately passes or vetoes the bill. Obama is way more likely to sign and pass such a decriminalization bill than Senator McCain would have been.

So, politically, the framework is set. If the people and organizations in favor of decrim. can step up, which I believe they are beginning to do (represented most recently by Mass. victory and Mich. MMJ victory), Representatives and Senators will begin notice the public's call for less stringent, more effective, and more progressive marijuana legislation. :rastasmoke:

I would literally cry if we got national decrim...and I would be a very happy man for more reasons that one. hehehe

neither obama or mccain ever plans on legalizing or decriminalizing. obama has stated in the past he is against the prosecution of MMJ patients, but that doesnt help much
