INTRODUCING THE GERMINATOR 3000

The GERMINATOR 3000-

And I've got the only one in existence...lol....

Here are a few pix of my new contraption I like to call TH GERMINATOR 3000....

I based the construction of this McGuyveresque contraption based on my being tired of germinating beans in paper towels and reading Stinky's germinating posts & frankly I was just flat out stoned offa sum locally grown GRAPE APE...

I figure I'll drop sum distilled or filtered water into the test tubes which are just the test tubes that come with PH tester covered in foil tape...
then I'll drop beans into each test tube ! strain per tube place the tube into its slot and wait for crackage...

The fan underneath keeps the air moving, that along with the cfl underneath the box keeps temps in the box optimal for germin'...pop in the thermometer so I can keep on top of the temps and voila I give you THE GERMINATOR 3000....

Beans will soon be dropped into this contraption once I can get the water to at least room temps...

I was gonna wait to start things back up, until I could afford to make all the necessary modifications, I need to make to the space... but I said to hell with it...

I can remember my first foray into growing, and I had nothing.. but I still was willing to try with what I had... so Here I go again...

When the beans go into the GERMINATOR 3000 I'll post those updates in this thread until I get them vegging then I suppose they'll get a thread of their own..

This is just something to keep my mind busy on a rainy day...boredom + stonededness = THE GERMINATOR 3000...lol...I just like saying that....I whipped this thing up in a couple minutes, without putting much thought into it, just a spur of the moment idea that I thought would look cool in my spaceship.... anyways...Here are some pix of my bean cache...not much, to look at mostly all bag seeds...

O.K. the water is at room temp... I've checked and set the Ph to about 6...I chose 4 of the SNLxNH and the lone MK, both are Feminized...The best SNLxNH outta the bunch will become a Momma for awhlie as will the MK, provided I don't screw things up...Put about 2-3 ml's into each test tube, and after a little rub with some 220 grit sand paper the beans went into the tubes and were placed into THE GERMINATOR 3000...So I'll check on them at least twice a day and wait for crackage...once the tap roots have manifested themselves, I'll pop them into Oasis cubes and put them under CFL's once they pop thru the cube....

pic 1 - a shot of the 4 SNLxNH that I chose and the MK that I got from the Ganja Fairy...no really the Ganja Fairy, I know its hard to believe but just before I harvested my last grow I accidentally broke off the top of my biggest plant. a bud that was a least 18" long... I was devastated, but no use crying over spilled cow juice...Just at that moment I remembered the old stories of the Ganja Fairy...We all know the story, so I did what I was suppose to do....I put the huge, broken, crystally, nugget under my pillow as a gift for the Ganja Fairy...When I woke up the big bud was gone and the Ganja Fairy replaced it with these 14 SNLxNH marked F(fem.idk)and a lone MK marked fem. too...I wouldn't believe it, if it didn't happen to me...anyways...

Ok I'm happy to say I've got 1 SNLxNH to crack outta the 4:D:D:D:D... but still nothing with the MK:mad: but it's only been like 12 hrs. so I'll update more as the news comes....

As far as your question about ideal temps for poppage, I seem to have really good results when my temps are in the 80-85 degree range...
Not saying that's the ideal temp or anything, but it has worked well for me.

Ok a lil update for those of you that give a damn about my lil experimental foray into what has been dubbed the GERMINATOR 3000...

All 4 SNLxNH beans have cracked and their tap roots have come out to play...I'm gonna let them get a lil bit longer before I put them into the oasis cubes...

The MK has popped open but no tap root on that one yet...

I figure these will be in their new homes soon enough...

i've found room temp is usually good except maybe if it's a warm climate strain. they say 70-85 but i've read/heard that 80-85 is a good range for germ. a little higher temps than optimal for photosynthesis (~72-78). hope this helps.

i dig the germinator by the way! i was getting clowned for my grow box made from a home theater cardboard box. but it's working. i like doing it myself. it's a lot more rewarding on top of being rewarding!

Shake, thanx for chiming in....I reset my temps to stay around 80 degrees....I love diy too, and no patents here bro anyone can replicate and make these things...I just did it as a joke, messin' around tryin to find a fun way of germin' some beans...later on...Keep growin'

Alright back again...All beans have cracked, and have showed me their stuff...Each of the 4 SNLxNH and the lone MK have been put into Oasis cubes...They should have gone in yesterday but I was busy...

They will sit in a old jiffy pot tray with the lid loosely on top, until they pop through the surface...

I've got them under 2 26w=100w CFL's until they get going... Once they root enough for some good feedings, I'll pace them into 3" net pots w/ hydroton and into the Ebb & Flow system...

From there the best SNLxNH and the MK will be pulled from the tray and placed into a recirc. DWC they will be fimmed, & LST'd then used for clone stock...at least that's the plan...

Here are some pix, not much to them now... but here they are, if anyone is interested...

Yes DT, I've got this going in my garage where its a lot colder right now.. old house not to well insulated in the garage, so cold in the winter and hot as hell in the summer...so it did help out me thinks...

Next update will be after the 1st signs of sprouts

WH - I'm using Oasis cubes I haven't used them for seeds yet, 1st time...I did use them for my last cloning foray, & prefer them over the RW...The last time I grew from beans I used RW and jiffy pots, but thought I'd try the Oasis cubes since they worked well for the cloning..That and the owner of one of the hydro stores in town swears my them for cloning and or germin' beans...Hopefully I haven't ruined them...They have only had distilled water, but the water was put into a smaller container that held some water with thrive alive b1 earlier...maybe I didn't clean it well enough and there is a small amount of the thrive alive still in there...anyways hope to get this up a going soon...thanx for poppin in Weedy...

I just checked some distilled water right out of the bottle (I use it for my fish) and the ph was 5.4........if you are not checking and adjusting your ph before watering with distilled then you should start immediately.

:D Well find a spot for this byte: Check your AND adjust ph before watering......5.6-6.2 if you are going hydro and 6.2-6.8 if you are growing soil. I'm not familiar with your cubes so they may be doing a number themselves on your seedlings or it may be your water but you'll have to take the issues one at a time till you figure out what the problem is. Many issues mimic each other symptom wise so its a matter of changing things one by one and observing results until you find the problem.

Yes I never water anything without checking & adjusting the Ph 1st...My ph is within that optimal level for hydro...Do you suggest me removing the beans from the cubes and going back to the RW....they have been in the cubes since friday night...idk maybe I left them in the Germinator too long, I wanted to get them out before I did but I had other things going on...

Are you seeing any changes in your babies at all? Are they doing something inside the cubes or can you not tell? 4 days seems long enough for them to show the first few leaves.....at least on one of them since you know they cracked and have a taproot.

I'm afraid I don't understand your germinator thing at all so I skipped over it......always done my mine in rapid rooters so I'm sorry but I'm just not sure about your cubes......and whether or not they are a problem at all. Wish I could be more help......sorry. :(

One last question.......how wet are these cubes? The seedlings aren't overwatered are they?

not over watered in the cubes... I saw a thread that stinky did... and how she germs in a test tube in a dark warm place then when the tap root shows she drops them into cubes...so I thought I was doing something like that..I just wanted to try something different then the paper towels I've done in the past..But think I might have killed these beans some how...I opened the hole in each cube to see the beans.. the tap root is still exposed in each cube but they don't seem to be getting any longer. so I moved the seed up higher in the cubes hoping they will still sprout wish me luck, cuz I think I'm gonna need it with these ones...I hope I haven't let the Ganja Fairy down:sadcrying

I'm keeping them over heat, a CFL... w/ a fan blowing on it the temps are between the high 70's low 80's throughout the day...got the cubes in a jiffy pot tray with the lid on loosely(didn't wanna pull out the larger propagation tray w/ humidome)...I'm staying on top of making sure the cubes don't dry out, and not get over watered...I modeled the GERMINATOR 3000 from stinky's post on germinating, in one of her threads & some tips from a Jorge Cervantes book...Maybe I left them in there too long..I dunno...starting to bum me out, that I might have ruined my chance at a good strain, the MK...as I do still have some more SNLxNH beans...I'll give these late bloomers a chance at life, but if something doesn't happen soon I'll be looking through the bean bag for some more....I can't say if I'll be using the GERMINATOR 3000 though, it could get an early retirement...lol...

Love your McGyverish contraption...I have tried many ways...The tube was a med tube with fish meds...Worked well...then on to the vermiculite, this worked quite well..but the last method of using the rapid rooters, was the best way so far..Mandala Seeds technique suggested by Image Reaper has turned out to be the way to go, and I have had the best poppage rate in doing so...:thumbsup:

But keep on trying and you will eventually settle on a method that suits you fine...

Hey, hows it going? Had some Thai-HazexSkunk that I had almost given up on...and noticed the side of the seed opening..Thats whats nice about using the vermiculite...and the tooth picks to find them..LOL....but all in all the rapid rooters I used work the best as the seeds are in a warm rapid rooter womb of soft squishy material..I just pull the rapid rooter apart, to make a slit...dont use the existing hole.. and the seeds just love it...they go in dry, no presoaking either...

The 2 sprouts are not under the humidome, but the ones that have yet to pop from their rooting cube are still under it...

My wife went to a friends house to pick up some smoke last night, I thought she was supposed to get some GDP...but she came home with a sack of JACK HERRER this strain is supposed to be a potent ass sativa is it not....Either it's not the real JH or the grower just did a crappy job ...cuz I'm not to impressed...

So tonight I'm gonna go pick up a zip of either GRAPE APE, PINEAPPLE, or U2...
these are all Med strains from Cali clubs...So which strain do yall think I should go with this time...

Most of them from the first run didn't survive I think they germinated too long and most never made it thru....only one from the 1st run is still kickin, but it's smaller than any of the other newer germed beans...not a whole lot to look at now...not growing a whole lot, but one of the SNLxNH looks promising, no curly stuff yet...so well see how it goes...Thanx again WH, how are things going with you? sup Trinity no I haven't hiked the Alps, want to though....I had a friend from work a while back that always hiked them....He loved it at a lake up there called "Granite Bowl" he says the lake is a big indention of granite filled with water... I'd like to see it someday...dunno if it's by those Canyon creek lakes you speak of...

Ok it's been a long time since my last update in this thread...this thread is pretty much dead, and a new thread or log should follow soon, got family staying over and it's hard to get to the grow,take pix, post them etc. so bear with me...

Things are going decent otherwise, pertaining to the grow that is...

They are growing fast in the hydro system...it is a Ebb n Flow system I built myself, but the roots coming out of the pots started to dry out too fast in between feedings so I modified the system so now it's kind of a hybrid hydro system.... Ebb & Flow/DWC/NFT...

They are growing so fast I'm gonna have to put them into their next home faster than I first thought, which is a problem cuz I need to buy a few more things to built that system, and money is coming up shorter than Webster right now...

I lost my job, and my Wife's Work is going out of Business (thank you Wal Mart) And my Mortgage Co. is pushing to foreclose (Sorry kids Santa isn't coming this year) So hopefully I'll be able to stay in my home long enough to at least flower out some of these good genetics I've been blessed with...

Sorry for my off subject ranting, but without having my Cannabis.com Friends I'd have no friends to talk too...
