Does the Procyon just plug into the wall?
is there a seperate ballast?
when do you think the price of Procyon's will go down?

Suggest you pose these questions to Ryan over at HGL dot com.
Horses mouth and all...
But, yes, it plugs into a standard 120V. 60hz. AC wall socket .
No ballast. Has an internal current limit power supply.
As soon as there is stiff competition and the component prices drop.:)
Why wait?
Just build your own, it's eaisier than one would think.

dont waste your money on leds when you want to grow weed..they lack intensity and overall power..your better to go with t5s or the price of that procien..or w/e u call it you can by 3 400 watt hps..i use to sell led grow lights..and for the hobby grower..there not what you want...a waste of money and time..

well i already have a 600 watt I was just curious as to how to procyon stacks up against an HPS and in the future I would definetly switch even if it wasnt as good just for the lower wattage

Hey REV any procyon ?'s you have, you should ask at some of the LED threads here...SnS Stealth and Whiskey Tango have a lot of experience w/ the procyon 100 as well...
later D:jointsmile:
Procyon 100 emits about 100uE on PAR. If it use the top Cree bins of each color, it could emit up to 200uE (optimistic, and i really doubt they use last bins avalaible).
A 600w HPS emits 1100uE on PAR. Still taking into account optical losses about 25%, still there is more than 800uE avalaible to plants.
Still accounting the enhanced photosynthesis by spectrum, it can perform as 1/3 of a 600w HPS.
So depending on the bins the procyon use, it can perform as a 250w HPS, luckily.
BTW, its not difficult at all doing it yourself.

I wonder if anyone has done a cost benefit analysis of having a procyon vs a 250w HPS then?
over how long, would you be saving your money?
I'll calculate it out later if no one has already

Good info there!
IMO you failed to mention a variable that favors LEDs.
Think "inverse square law" :)
Mahalo for the rep., brah.
Tempis Fugit,

so the LED's get 30% less brighter after 50,000 hours
how would you replace the LED's is it pretty easy to replace?

50000 hours is 5.7 years if you were to leave your light on everyday for 24hrs doubt you will prob will get your money out of it and buy a new one thats a long time.50000/24(hrs in a day)then divide by 365 days in a year good to go.Whatcha think sounds good.:-)

ok so word is that the Procyon is the equivalent of a 250-400w HPS
or about 325w average estimate
I did some simple estimations comparing 2 Procyons vs 1 HPS@600w
The initial cost is about 600$ for a Procyon and the HPS is about 400$ for a high-end lumatek ballast and high quality bulb (I understand the price can drop depending on type of ballast purchased, magnetic vs digital, but for my purpose, I spent 400)
so:
2x Procon = 1200$
1x HPS = 400$
A full cycle for myself would be:
24/0 = 14 days and 12/12 for 65 days; for a 79 day Total
Total's below are averages for the entire 79 day cycle
125W Procyon:
1,765w a day or 53.0kwh in a 30 day period
250w HPS:
3,531w a day or 105.9kwh in a 30 day period
400w HPS:
5,650w a day or 169.5kwh in a 30 day period
600w HPS:
8,476w a day or 254.3kwh in a 30 day period
1000w HPS:
14,127w a day or 423.8kwh in a 30 day period
Procyon Pros over an HPS:
-50,000 hours until 30% lumen degradation (vs 25,000 life of an HPS bulb which can cost 50-100$ per bulb)
-If you have 2, you will have better positioning
-Cooler operation for closer positioning
Procyon Cons:
-Initial cost
*2 Procyons should give you an estimated 500-800w or 650w estimated average equivalent of an HPS
I wasn't very sure on how to interpret my energy bill from my local electric company but my estimates suggest:
600w HPS = 61$ average/30 days
2 x Procyons = 25$/30 days
a monthly saving of 36$ on energy
initial cost (Procyonx2) - HPS600 = 800$
800/31$ = 25.8 months before you get your money's worth
(The cost of bulb replacement is probably minisucle, but helps in the long run)
However, theoretically, the 2 Procyon's should get a much better yield
**I know a lot of these numbers aren't exact and calculating this was somewhat difficult to be exact and to apply to others as well. Take what you can from my own calculations and let me know if I've made any obvious errors!
***Note that cost of electricity for me is tiered so saving energy saves lots of money (example: $0.12 for first 73.2kwh, $0.13 for next 21.96kwh, and $0.24 for everything after that)

Everything looks good I guess it depends on the yield and quality I guess well have to see i will kepp ya posted!:-)

peep this;
Theoreme Innovation Inc. - Products (http://www.theoremeinnovation.com/products.html)
and
Procyon-100 100W LED Grow Light - HomeGrownLights.com (http://www.homegrownlights.com/100W.html)
they have some 14watt kits avail
and where did you get all those figures ? just making a guess there ? you need facts man!

The figures are based on 24/0 for 14 days and 12/12 for 65 days
kwh are based on rating of actual lights
the statement about a procyon is the equivalent to a 250-400w is based on what people have been saying about it that I've heard
other than that, these are all based on 'facts' but are intended more for estimates and is mainly useful for me and how it pertains to use for myself
