Hi peeps im wondering if someone would offer some good advice.
ive cut some of my crop down today and trimmed them right back to the bud removing all fan leaves and smaller leaves on the bud infact as many leaves as i could see but its stinking my home out badly and it can be smelt from outside :D is it best to just chop and take off the fan leaves then hang? also if it is best to do that is it a good idea to remove all smaller leaves after its dried? the reason i ask is because when i trim all the smaller leaves off it stinks more and i cant control the smell.
i am drying them in my loft as i cant use my cuppboard because i have already begun to put new ones in for flowering but i still have 2 more left to harvest. this is a real dilema, hope someone can help.

Do your trimming before you hang them. If smell is an issue you can use a blower with an odorsok on it as an air scrubber to cut down the smell, and fill your house with air fresheners for the few days it will take before tehy are dry enough to jar up. In fact, when they are ALMOST dry, you can put them in a paper bag for the last day or 2 before they go from dry to the touch to stem snapping dry.

i have nothing to use for sucking air not even a hoover :D unfortunatly my 24inch fat bud which was the best had some bud rot where the condensation dripped on it from the ceiling but im just happy to see it grow to that size. im using one of those spray air freshners and spray occasionally to avoid the drying bud from having the same taste as the spray. i honistly think i grew too much but its a lesson learnt. poor air filteration and ventalation was the only problem i had with this grow but growing in such a small cuppboard i guess thats to be expected.
the help i had from your peeps while i was growing has been super, many thanks

Use febreeze to spray the entire area and have some odor killers

If you had rot while it was on the plant, remove ALL the sub-buds from the stem so that there are no large dense colas that can mould from the inside-out. I learned this one the hard way... :(

I had the same odour issues. The smell will be the most intense whilst trimming so I left them hanging as they were (untrimmed) until about 3am. Then I did all the trimming as I knew it would be unlikley that anyone would be around at that time. The smell will calm down a lot after trimming so it minimises the risk of anyone smelling it.

If you can I would do the trimming in your attic or the highest point in your house as people on ground level wont smell it as much if the smell is above them. :yippee:

the bud rot looks to be at least a week old and when you poke your figer into it its kinda mushy :D there are a few shriveled up leaves that fell strait out as soon as you touched them also it it 'did' have mould over the tops of some of the mould spots. im not too worried because the general size of the bud will make up for any loss caused by mould :)
i was using the large black square plastic pots which are pretty common but even though i watered well the bottom of the soil always remained dry. there was quite a bit of condensation dripping from the ceiling onto the buds but i had no way to control it other than stop watering but then the plants wilted due to lack of water.
from the start i knew i'd have problems but xmas is near and i cant get any smoke from anywhere so i thought i'll grow me own to last me, wont be growing 8 again next time its way more than i needed so im gonna freeze half and save it for spring :) oh i got about 100 seeds from them too so im well chuffed
i didnt have any money to buy fancy extraction fans or filters so i built my own filter using active carbon though the fan wasnt powerful enough  the whole setup was done pretty cheap but i got what i wanted and plenty of it so im happy :D
oh btw in a rage of panic i realised the old fasioned way of getting rid of nasty odours, i used vinegar on a plate, seems to have helped a lot. thanks again for the tips

Do yourself a favor and take Stinky's advice. I lost almost an entire crop on one grow because I got mold in the buds. I thought I'd gotten rid of it all when I trimmed, but I didn't bother breaking up the largest cola because it looked cool and I didn't think there was any mold on it. There was, and it spread, and once that happened, nothing I could do saved the contaminated bud.

ok im back :D
ive just chopped that one down and jeez i had to cut off 4 sections because of the mould that was on my 24 inch bud :( but i have taken all the advice you yous and gals have given me and i cant thank you enough.
i decided to go into my little bathroom and close all doors and windows then cut it down and trim it in there. when i finnished i opened the window and let the smell out all in one go as its very late here.

while i am here i'd like to ask 2 questions about cutting and trimming.
1)
when cutting/trimming is it posible to get stonned while handling with no gloves?

2) is it posible to get stonned while cutting/trimming from breathig the air?

ive been cutting away and feeling verry unusually happy and i cant stop smiling :D and was wondering if im just happy cos its harvest time or if its the effects of cutting them down

appart from the bud rot yup it really is :) ive been reading a LOT of other posts in this section and ive learned a lot from all the replys.
i started with 4 seeds in the beginning of the year, took clones from each one by one over a period of months. 1st load turned out male, 2nd load turned out male and 3rd load turned out male, last seed turned out female (thank jah  ) but she had mites all over but i thought what the hell lets keep cloning her and hope for the best. took 16 clones from her, gave away 8 and kept 8, used cheap tacky growbag soil :D but fed her when needed. i finally got my xmas smoke thanks to this forum
i dont normally flower them i just grow a mother and clone the hell out of her for friends. i have cloning to perfection but the actual growing in flowering stage is where i get stuck. thanks

stinky was deffinatly right, today i went back into my attic and checked the ones that i have already hung up and some tiny bits of mould which were left had grown a little more  i have now checked all of them and removed anything that looks remotley like mould, one of the buds i had to remove half of it.
i dont know how big the buds actually grow but i chopped my biggest then trimmed it and weighed it while it was still fresh, it weighed 9.8 ounces but after i removed all the mouldy bits i weighed it again and then it weighed 8.9 ounces. i have no idea how much it will weigh when its dry but im looking forward to finding out :) i even found mould on the walls where i'd not moved the plant.
mould Grrrrr :D

Dude, I feel for ya. Bud rot is an nasty thing and tends to go much deeper than you can physically see on the surface. It's a hard lesson to learn but very valuable aswell. The humidity of your grow room whilst flowering was probly the cause.

Make sure to trim past the rot... at least an inch imo and get it gone. Dont handle any un-infected parts after you've touched any of the rot or u will unwittingly transfer the mold spores. Id also dry it as quick as you can.

I'd throw any mouldy weed away. I had some mouldy weed and I thought what harm can it do. I smoked it and half way down the joint I felt my lungs going really tight. I could only take very shallow breaths and if I tried to breathe deeper I would cough, which made me breath deeper, which made me keep coughing in a viscious circle. It was quite a scary experience and Id never smoke mouldy weed again.

there's a pretty big pile of mouldy bud that ive trimmed off, ive put it in the freezer as i was gonna make some hash oil but i think i will take your word for it and bin it. its a shame cos i think there would have been at least an ounce after it dried maybe even more. it was definatly humidity that was the cause because the ceiling was dripping wet and was always dropping on to the buds. i had no way to get rid of the moisture fast enough.

i also think i grew too much in a small space where 8 large pots in a small cuppboard and the pots took up most of the room. couldnt fit anymore in there. next time im only going to do 3 or 4. its been so long since ive flowered one that i actually forgot how big they grow so i guess all that soil which was filled with water was the cause of the super high humidity. on the bright side i didnt lose the lot and xmas is now covered :)

Hmm, I think Ive read about salvaging mouldy weed by making it into hash oil or using the ice and water extraction. It would be worth looking into it a bit more seeing as u have a fair amount. I smoked it directly and it had a horrendous effect but if you can extract the THC cleanly then you should be ok.

REad the washed cannabutter sticky in edibles. The washing process is effective at removing contaminants, and the sustained heat kills pathogens.
