Busted in the dorms.

I have a quick question for anyone who knows about the laws of marijuana here in Minnesota (usa). My friend was just busted with a pipe and a small bag (1/8th) in our dorm, and the cop told him it was a misdemenior, arrested him, and now he is apparently in holding until further notice.. I would've thought that they would just give him a paraphernalia ticket as well as a small amount ticket.. does the combination of both make a misdemenior?

Not sure about in MN but in WA they will arrest him for 24 hours.

I don't know about Minnesota, but in Mississippi, simple posession within 1500ft of a church or a school is a FELONY. I gotta wonder why he got busted in the first place... what was he doing that drew the attention of the cop?? Was he smoking in the dorm?? Lotta questions and not enough answers. FWIW, getting caught weed in the dorms at most all schools can get you expelled with the loss of all money paid(tuition, dorm fees, deposits, etc.). If he is real lucky, he'll only get a fine and suspension from school for a while.

ive been busted with a dub and a pipe a couple times and seen friends probably a dozen times
i live in MN also

every time ive been cuffed, then un-cuffed, given a ticket and sent away, same with all of my friends. theyve never taken anyone in for that before because they are not arrestable offenses unless the person is on probation/parole or has warrants

Dude, I was busted in Maryland at a little place called Frostburg. This douche ratted me out (he could smell it coming in from the window). I was at a sierra club meeting (go figure) and my brother called me up really upset saying that cops had come and found out I had smoked. Needless to say, I was freaking out. No one was arrested, but they wanted me to stop by the police station. I did and they basically asked if it was mine and wrote me a ticket for the alcohol I had as well (not the weed). My brother and I were charged with fifteen counts of paraphenllia (they counted incense sticks and lighters) and I had an quarter of mid and less then an eighth of good weed, my bro had a quarter of mid. For the next three weeks we both had this impending feeling of doom that seemed to fall down upon us as we awaited our "student judicial board" meeting.

At the meeting, they suspended my bro for winter break and suspended me for a year. Those judicial boards are a joke, btw. I met one of the people on that board (she wasn't at the meeting, though) and I witnessed her smoke. I thought it was so damned hypocritical of her to do that and be on the board at the same time. I don't know about the people at my board hearing, but I'm sure some of them at least tried it once. Fuckers. Lol, I'm being so negative toward them, but damn did that experience suck. Probably the best thing that ever happened to me, though, but still it was unjust. We had just gotten a new president, too, who was trying to save the schools "party school" image.

Oh, and as far as the real law was concerned? My bro and I ended up with no court cost, no fine whatsoever and only had to do something like 40 hours of community service.
