I have a 2x2 growtent...it is 4'7'' high...the whole system will be ventilated like this.....
The carbon filter will suck stinky air out the tent which will go through a Cool Sun air-cooled reflector hood, which will be vented into the attic.
My question is: With a 172 cfm Vortex can fan (the tent is a total of 18.33333333333 <the three is a repeating decimal, lol, idk why i added that chit>) can I put a 400w in the tent or am I going to have to settle for a
250w?
O, by the way....I am pretty much set on this CMH (Ceramic Metal Halide) bulb made by Philips...spectrum of the lamp below.
Thanks in advance! :hippy:

Figured I should add that fresh (well, as fresh as the house a/c air is) air will be entering the tent by negative pressure, due to the carbon filter sucking air in, through a approx. 12''x5'' rectangular filtered inlet. Incoming air temps are approx. 72 degrees.

Couldn't you find a smaller tent?...this is gonna be tricky...:glugglug:
A 400 would burn things up...IMO. Even a 250 watt is iffy. It's the height, of the tent, that is the killer. And 2x2 is good for 2? plants.
Also...do you have 250 watt HPS magnetic ballast?...(digital ballasts don't work with CMH bulbs).

LOL....the tent is actually going to be a squeeze for the closet....closet is like maybe a 1/4 inch larger on each side...i think you pretty much made up my mind...i am hoping that the increase in quality of spectrum will help with the height issue by inducing less stretch during the first couple weeks of 12/12.....also i plan to LST and top/fim the plants.....i think i can get 4 clones in there....(i know it fits 4 5-gallon buckets)
Thanks for the input Pizimp!:rastasmoke:

So you going to put your tent inside a closet....I'm thinking its gonna get hot in there...how is the a/c air gonna reach the tent if its in a closet...take your time do a test run...believe me its worth it in the long run...heat issues are not fun...Good luck to you

Closet should be able to pull in air from the cracks around the door...negative pressure is going to take care of the hopefully.

If you keep the air temp outside the closet below ...60? degrees...it might work.
I would hate growing under handicap conditions. IMO.

With winter coming on...and if you have a cool, fresh air supply that you can pump into the tent, maybe. Hang a light in there and see how much room you have left for plants to grow up. The 250 CMH must always be about 10-12 inches above the top of the plant canopy. I don't grow short plants,..so I can't help you with that.

You've probably already made your decisons and got things set up. In case you have not, or if anyone else is interested - my situation is similar, my tent is a little bigger (2.75' x 2.75' x 5.25')
I went with a 400W CMH with an easy cool 6. I modified a stanley blower to exhaust the light, cut a couple of 4" x 10" holes in the wall (match the tent vent windows) and ended up having to install a 6 duct booster fan (through the wall). Before the duct booster fan, I had temps of ca. 83 F, which was about 12 F above ambient. Afterwards, tent temps are now 1.5 - 3 degrees F above ambient - 73 - 75 F.
Don't see why you can't use the 400W, at least in the winter.
