So this will be my first attempt at growing. I have yet to order seeds and i am planning on ordering White Widow it seems to be rather easy to grow and clone and does well in doors, at least that is what i have read. I have a few questions and i am hoping someone can help
1. Is white widow a good strain for a first time grower?
2. Will i be sucsesfull in growing in a small closest, about 4x3 and 9-10 feet tall.
3. Will i be able to split this closet into 2 5 foot tall sections to maximize the space
4. Is lining the walls ceiling and floor with tin foil covered by a clear plastic the best route to go
5. What type of lights should i buy and can they be obtained from a hardware/garden store.
6. Any recomendations on soil i should purchase from a garden store
7. How many seeds should i purchase if i plan to grow 4-6 plants at a time (if i can split the closet into 2 5foot tall sections i would plan to be growing 8-12 at a time)
8. Is it better to buy feminized seeds or just regular
9. What site do you recomend to buy from

I know this seems like a lot of questions but any advice would be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance, Unosnow

welcome to can.com, if you haven't done it already, i'd suggest you start
an introductory thread so people can just stop by and say hi to ya

now, to your questions

1. Is white widow a good strain for a first time grower?
while i've never grown it, i understand that WW is fairly easy to grow although,
for a first grow you might want to go with free bagseed

2. Will i be sucsesfull in growing in a small closest, about 4x3 and 9-10 feet tall.
that's the wrong question, you should ask 'can you be successfull'? and the
answer to that is yes, you can, i can't answer whether you will succeed or
not because i don't know you and what your skills are

3. Will i be able to split this closet into 2 5 foot tall sections to maximize the space
lol, as in the last question, i don't know your skill level. that being said, the
space is splittable

4. Is lining the walls ceiling and floor with tin foil covered by a clear plastic the best route to go
no, that's a horrible idea, tin-foil is a lousy reflective material that creates
other problems, you'd be much better off just painting the inside of your
closet flat white. you can also use Panda Plastic which is very heavy duty
so very durable, plus it is black on one side and white on the other plus it's
light proof (this is actually a material you can use to answer your question #3

5. What type of lights should i buy and can they be obtained from a hardware/garden store.
this is another question that's difficult to answer due to lack of info
personally, i use CFL's only because of cost and availability, if i had the dough,
i'd be using HID lights

6. Any recomendations on soil i should purchase from a garden store
any decent, non-nuted, general purpose potting soil that you will mix with about
30% perlite for drainage and moisture retention and some blood meal and bone
meal is a good place to start

7. How many seeds should i purchase if i plan to grow 4-6 plants at a time (if i can split the closet into 2 5foot tall sections i would plan to be growing 8-12 at a time)
again, not enough info. what style will you grow? what kind of yield do you hope for? etc., etc., etc.,

8. Is it better to buy feminized seeds or just regular
again, as a noob grower, i'd recommend you start with bagseed until you know
enough to not kill all your seedlings.
that being said, fem seeds are great in that you know with almost 100%
certainty that all your plants are fems. and they suck 'cause they cost
3 times more than regular seeds, sometimes even more than that.

9. What site do you recomend to buy from
that is the $64,000.00 question. myself, i've only tried it once and i didn't
have a good experience, i ordered from Seedboutique and all i got from them
is e-mails. i'm still trying to get them to make good so i'm not ready to really
trash them yet

anyway, spend some time looking around, read through a few threads, get
to know a few people and let them get to know you and don't forget to have
fun, if it aint fun, why bother

come by my garden, maybe you'll see something you can use

The aforementioned advice is totally advisable to take.CFLs are ok ,I grew under flourescents for years before I finally got into HIDs.HIDs are the way to go for sure and maybe the newer LEDs but for now , i'd stick with cheap for your first grow and absolutely go with free bagseed until you know what you're doing.A site that might help you is FSbooks.com....they ship quickly and are a very good company.Wish you the best , see ya in the big leagues.

just my 2 cents...if you can afford to never use a bag seed then don't. If you know what strain you got it makes thing more predictable . If u screw things up with grade A u might get grade B. If u screw up with grade B u might not like grade C . you are going to put a lot of time and effort into this so the cost of good genetics for your weed is very small indeed..:)

plus a bag seed has a so much higher possibility of being a strain that likes to hermie and even a good grower can get screwed by that.

good luck

I think you should read as much cannabis grow info as you can get your hands on before you attempt to grow...You should already know the answer to every question above...I was in your shoes and wanted to grow so bad I could taste it...I bought every Hightimes,CannabisCulture, and WeedWorld,(Skunk wasn't out yet) that came out for a year...When I had enough confidence to start a grow I ordered beans(seeds)...After my beans came I ordered grow books...Finally I took a ride to the hydro shop and assembled a small grow closet which I still use to this day...My advice is READ and then READ SOME MORE!!!
Good luck Unosnow...:)

If you have 15 extra bucks, I would recommend buying the Cannabis Grow Bible: The Definitive Guide to Growing Marijuana for Recreational and Medical Use. Its the most informative book I found, and it will help you with any problems you might have! Its also a great read that you wont want to put down! Its been priceless for me and my grows!

Agreed!!! Read this a few times front to cover, it's helped on at least 99.8% of all my questions. Sadly I never purcshed it, like I should've. It's a great reference book. I'd recommend it, otherwise search these forums for awhile. At least 96%(if not more) of your questions will be answered from here alone.

Grow Great Marijuana is a good read for the beginner

The bibles are great if you just want to look up something, but if you want to actually learn from beginning to end how to grow and harvest, this is your book.

Indoor Marijuana Horticulture(The Indoor Bible) by Jorge Cervantes is by far the grow book that's been the most useful to me and I have 20+ plus growbooks including all the above mentioned... :420thought:
