i've been waiting a long time to make one of these threads. i'm cody and i'm in the spot now. i'll level with you all first. i'm often sober but leap at the opportunity to smoke some weed. i had a job, working the cash register at a local deli, that was supplying me with the means to smoke the ganja more often than not but i quit working. i was working fifty-five hours in two weeks at an hourly rate of $6.70. the store was owned by three Korean ladies, whose enthusiasm for ridiculing their employers work habits, forced me to quit. now that i cannot return to work i am beginning to wonder about my decision to quit. did i have reason to quit? in my mind i believe i did. i guess that is all i need to move-on. and here i sit at the computer. it's almost ten o'clock in the evening here. i got nowhere to be and no one to see. lets hit this thing off right!

Cannabis.com is a lot of fun, but it's Monday and time to get your arse in gear. Start with the want ads, ask friends, and keep an eye out for "Help wanted signs. (I saw two yesterday while shopping- grocery and hardware store.) Go to the mall and go store to store. Dress neatly, have a pen and have your list of references and other info with you.

What do you like to do? Call those types of companies and ask about any up-coming job openings and ask for a job ap. (Work you enjoy, is easier than work you hate.) Be willing to to work for sh*t wages for a while if there is a chance of promotion. Keep a list of the places you leave a job ap at- call back.

To expand a bit on what Granny said... as a business owner, this is what I expect to see when somebody is looking for a job....

1) dress like you don't *NEED* the job... starched, pressed shirt with button down collar, pressed slacks(sharp creases are a good thing), polished shoes(no sneakers), clean shaven(trimmed 'stache is ok), and fresh haircut.

2) *ALWAYS* carry 2 pens in your pocket.

3) bring with you the following...
2 copies of your resume(If you don't have one, get help in making one)
Drivers License
DMV print-out
Report Card or transcript from highest education level completed
Social Security Card
List of references with addresses and phone numbers

4) BE ON TIME....a few minutes early is a good thing.

5) If you use tobacco products, leave them in the car

To ignore or bypass any of these steps will drop you to the bottom of the list for actual employment(shows you really don't want the job), instead of being at the top of the short list. Also....be prepared to take a UA.... Clean is good, dilute is not as you will probably be required to retest within 24 hours. A lot of companies these days are making the applicant pay for the UA and if its clean and they get hired, the company will reimburse you for the cost of the UA.

Yeah what gives with that? I basically end the applicant process at the point where they say I am required to pay for UA that I know I'm gonna fail.

yeah... and at roughly $80 per test, and a dozen applicants....if they all fail, that becomes a sizeable chunk of $$$.....plus how much of the interviewers time was wasted....plus....plus...etc. It all has to do with the business of running a business. Its not free. Here's a little tidbit for you... I run my own business out of my home... that saves me about $5,000 per month in overhead. As is, my overhead runs from $4800 to over $9,500 per month with just advertising costs of $20,000 per year. And thats all before I write myself a paycheck or my company makes any *PROFIT*.

Now... lets put this in perspective... If I had 10 employees, that base figure just jumped to $75,000/mo before there is any profit and before I write myself a pay check.

All that being said, if your not gonna pass, then don't apply. Companies don't have the cash flow right now to pay for UA on every person that walks in off the street. Most are laying off employees because they can't afford to keep them. If you want to pass a UA, then start by not smoking for at least a month before you apply.

If I hire you, you have to be clean when you get hired because of insurance. After that, I don't care if you smoke weed, but chemicals will get you fired for cause, and it will be reported as "not elegible for re-hire".
Also be aware of another insurance issue.. if you get hurt on the job, the first thing they do is do a test... either UA or blood. If you come up positive for *ANYTHING*, your insurance coverage is denied, and you get fired on the spot.

Sound harsh??? Well...get used to it, because thats real life in this neck of the woods.

Before you get your panties in a wad, remember that I am 53 years old, retired military and have been a business owner for the last 12 years. When you have traveled the same path, then and only then will you have earned the right.

In todays "sue happy" sociaty, its not about the induhvidual, its about the welfare of the business and the business owner...especially when it comes to employees. Skipping the insurance is *NOT* an option.... as its required for most all jobs...especially for Government, or Government funded jobs. Then there is the matter of licensing insurance requirements. Like I said before... its all about the bottom line and if the company owner wants to assume the liability and put his company and its emplyees at risk because somebody was high and got themselves and/or somebody else hurt.

Where are the fruits?? thats easy.. in the paycheck, and with the right company, the chance for promotion, and the benifits that come with a full time(40+ hours) job.

Even thought I smoke almost daily.. I am taking a big chance... and if I want to hire someone, they still have to *PASS* a UA *BEFORE* I can hire them. Insurance requires this. If you get hurt on the job, you get tested... insurance requires this also.

You pay for, and take a pre-employment UA. If you pass, you will be rembursed for the cost. If you fail, then you knew from the start you were not going to pass, and I for one as an owner am not going to pay for people to take a UA when they know they are going to fail.

FWIW, when I advertise for help, its specifically stated in the ad... "MANDITORY DRUG SCREENING". I still have folks apply that think that the drug screening policy doesn't apply to them, and when they are told the pre-employment UA policy, they leave because they know they are going to test positive.

Yeah its a cruel world... gotta learn how to deal with it. If I had to start looking for a job, it would be at least a month of not smoking before I would even attempt to apply.
