View Full Version : HPS Light Hooks?

I just bought a 400 watt HPS grow light and was wondering what kind of hooks or chains I should buy to hang it with? Im putting it in a cabinet thats about 3'x2'x3' and it all wood...The light has a 4 sided housing

The hood probably camge with triangular hangers.
Go to the hardware store and pick up several feet of jack chain that has each link bent in an offset figure 8, made of metal that is strong enough to take the weight but thin enough for you to bend by hand with a pair of pliers. Each link can actually be bent open on one side to create a length of chain with a hook on each end.
I recommend using 2 chains, and then one extra one attached to another strong point on the hood in case either of the other attachment points fails. A fallen HID lamp IS a fire hazard.

but what kind of hooks do you recommenced for a wooden cabinet?

The same ones.
You have to install proper eyebolts in the roof of the cab to support them. You will need a pair of eye bolts, washers, and nuts, and a drill that is the right size to make the hole.

Edit: If you don't want to damage the cabinet, you can install blocks on the inside and screw a support to them, and put the eye bolts on that. Gotta have some handiness, be creative, and over-engineer it a little for safety.
