These are about 7-8 weeks of flowering; past 3 weeks been inside @ night in complete darkness - outside during the day.
Using my 60 X microscope to check out the trichromes & they are a mixture of clear to milky (more moving to milky but none are turning orange yet).
This is my 1st grow so all help/opinions are appreciated. Thank you.

from what I have read, it is best to harvest right when you see ANY tint of orange/brown in any trichrome, the reason it turns orange/brown is becuase the THC is starting to break down.

yes, when its amber/orange that means thc is breaking down to CBD, only 10% psychoactive as thc but more medicinal considered by most, meaning, clear/milky = more thc and a more heady effect, high
amber = a little less thc, lethargic, couchlocking, stone

Yes, there are no orange pigments yet on the trichromes. However, it is not as 'coated' with milky-ness as another piece of bud I have (when looked at under a microscope). Should the entire thing be entirely milky or what? It's hard to find specific information about when it is ready and also what it should look like (when ready).
Thanks.

Also upon further inspection the very top part of the plant has clear(er) trichromes whereas the bottom part has very cloudy trichromes - any advice?

Myself I would wait until they are all milky. I am still learning myself but that is from what I have read about it.

I remember seeing a very smart cat on here named Zandor. He always seemed to have the perfect answer and his opinion was to harvest when roughly 20% of the trichs were amber. From that, since I'm getting ready to harvest, I figure I'll look at the 10+ budsites on my best female (harvesting first) and average the percentage of amber... of course by eye, but still....
what do you guys think about maybe harvesting individual branches if you think they're ready??? one or two clean cuts for the top/bottom branches (whichever has the most amber gets cut first) and then a little extra time for the others? could it stress the plant enough to halt resin production or would it trick the plant into making MORE gooey-goodness since the plan is "protecting itself?"
just curious and may help you, too!

edit: didn't realize this is almost a month old..... sorry mate.... any update on what you decided? maybe some pics?

I would say, when you get about 10% amber trichomes and the most of the other cloudy, I would say harvest.

DP! What up, bro?
Didn't our boy go off and start "the grow report" site/podcast???
btw.... anyone have an answer to:

Yeah, i've done partial harvests before. I just cut all the tops off my one plant that were 10-20% amber. The middle and bottom buds were still not ready so i let them go a while longer.
I don't know if it's ok to do. Some people think cutting off too many fan leaves is a bad thing. I wonder how they'd feel about cutting all the big buds off at once. All i know is that the smoke from the big buds is good stuff and the buds i left to continue growing are getting more light now and are developing well.
fun times.

Can anyone explain why my BOTTOM buds have more "degraded" (orange) hairs and more cloudy trichs than the top? The top buds are of course much larger, but all the hairs are still white and the buds are still swelling like crazy. The bottom ones are still growing as well, but this doesn't seem right...
Just thought about it... could it be that the bottom ones are receiving more side lighting (2700 k CFLs) than HID (running a 400 HPS)? I hate feeling stupid.....
sorry if I have hijacked this thread.... I'll burn one with ya if we ever meet at a rally :jointsmile:
