i dont believe all this "clone only" bs, cause if you have a cutting and know how to induce male flowers with stress it only takes 5 generations to make beans that are almost identical to the clone, and g 13 has been around for 10 years! did the mad scientists at UM breed it so well it never dropped nanners? haha

wikipedia says the pure g 13 genetic were lost a long time ago and that the strain we have today that is closest to the cutting is PG-13, the purple kind thats crossed with blueberry. i have actually seens these beens for sale, but not pure g-13, maybe it really was lost.

of all the crosses i have seen i want to grow out g-13 x hashplant but 10 beans cost 250 bucks :(

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think there is any particular specific strain that is "real" G-13. There are a number of seed companies that use the name G-13 for highly potent indica. This doesn't make them all related to any single plant - especially not the urban legend government weed that never actually existed.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about good old G-13:

University involvement

There are rumors that the University Of Mississippi[1] and/or the University of Washington were involved in the development of this strain. Seeds from the G-13 originating in Seattle, at the University of Washington, were leaked by students and some local growers managed to cross-breed with Blueberry strains, making "PG-13" in the late 90s, nicknamed such because it is a purple colored G-13. PG-13 remains the most common version of G-13 available in the Pacific Northwest, as almost all legitimate full breed G-13 has long since disappeared. Examples of PG-13 and its closest relatives are not always easily recognizable, but they are consistently more potent and pungent than most high end indoor buds available in the Pacific Northwest region. CIA involvement

It has been alleged that G-13 was created by government agencies such as the CIA and the FBI who focused on hybridizing different strains of cannabis from Michael Hallman in the 1970s. Supposedly, these organizations bred a strain of cannabis through hybridization that was more potent than any other. It also supposedly has a concentration of THC of 28% (approx) by weight, which is almost double the average amount of the chemical in most high-grade sinsemilla grown commercially. One story states that a single cutting of this potent strain was liberated from the government facility in Mississippi [2]. Although the man they call Michael Hallman assembled a world class cannabis collection during the late 1960s and early 1970s, there is no evidence that these researchers were ever involved in breeding high quality cannabis.[3]

Afghanistan

In some regions, stories state that a potent Afghani strain was most likely the basis for these rumors[1]; over time, the potent strain's qualities were exaggerated mostly into modern urban legends. Because the sale of cannabis is illegal in the United States, it is not monitored by the government; for this reason, it is common for vendors to exaggerate the qualities of their product, possibly accounting for the urban legends. Many cultivators and distributors of the strain continue to claim that it was developed through government experiments as evidence of its high potency.


In popular culture

The G-13 strain was mentioned in the film American Beauty. In the film, a young dealer named Ricky Fitts (Wes Bentley) hands a bag of what looks to be about an eighth (1/8 of an ounce, commonly 3.5 grams) to Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) and says, "This shit is top of the line. It's called G-13. It's genetically engineered by the U.S. Government. It's extremely potent, but a completely mellow high. No paranoia." He then charges him $2,000 - an amount approximately 30-times higher than the highest common street value for even the highest quality cannabis strains.

Performance in competition

For the 2006 Cannabis Cup Barney's Coffeeshop of Amsterdam produced a strain of cannabis which they named "G-13 Haze". Barney's gave away 1.0 gram samples of G-13 Haze to those who had purchased a Judges Pass for the festival. This specific strain won 2nd place on that year's Cannabis Cup, and 1st place on the 2007 Cannabis Cup[4].

Now, even if it were true that "The Government" had collected a variety of good strains and cross bred them producing an outstanding hybrid - that still doesn't mean anything all that special. Think about it, that's what every breeder does - they take good genetics, cross them and then back-cross to stabilize for desired qualities. The difference is that the breeders have been at it a lot longer!

If you are looking for a killer strain, I would suggest looking at Cannabis Cup winners - these are strains which have actually been compared and judged superior to their competition rather than simply talked about in folktales, read up on strains with known pedigrees and select from there.

see the thing is i have smoked all the winners, most of the big ones anyway like white widow and super silver haze and jack herer and kush, but the weed that got me the highest was g-13, it was also by far the stinkiest too.

i was checking out all the fast flowering high grade strains and none have the power or smell of g-13.

i kinda believe the myth, it makes sense. i think the government could find a better strain faster than all the growers because they have a huge research facility for it. iv seen pictures of the outdoor field of weed at the university of Mississippi, its guarded like a fortress.

the government could find a super phenotype way faster because of the sheer amount of space they have, let alone the technology (constant conditions, state of the art monitoring equipment, ect.)

i also dont believe the line that the U of M never bread weed, thats imposable they have been growing it for a 1/4 century in projects related to classifying weeds genotype, this mandates breeding. they also grow all the weed used in federal research projects, AND the weed for the federal medical marijuana program (closed to new applicants). all these projects require high quality, uniform marijuana batches.

i think they just officially say they never bread it cause american beauty called attention to it, and these days g-13 is the building block of half the cannibis cup entries, they dont want that on their head.

i can totally see some dude who worked on the project either breeding his own weed on the down low or stealing a clone of their best indica hash strain from Afghanistan or the government just outright breeding their own super-strain for the heck of it just to see how potent they can get it, to determine its danger to society and whatnot.

think about it, you work at umiss, you get a spot on the weed team, even if the government tells you not to breed weed for potency are you going to listen to them? only people who really love weed are going to work on this project, there is no way they arent breeding it, at least on a small scale. for their own projects. at the very least they stabilize the strains and select superior phenotypes, that alone counts as breeding.

I have a 4 week old BLZ Bud that is a G13 hybrid. I am going to keep it as a mother plant for clones. I haven't grown it to flower yet but it's growth has been vigorous!! It is indica dominant with very lttle spacing between internodes. It is a great plant for smaller spaces! Flowering period is 8-10 weeks, with only 25-50% increase in height during flowering.

G-13 Told it was aquired from the U.W. normally has a 6-8 week budding peroid.... that is after the 10 day tranferance period from Veg to bud:D

I have seen it go longer 8-12 weeks.... it gets podier but the high changes....no seeds ever:D ...cloning the same strain for 15 yrs now

See...I wish when I tried G-13 I was impressed :(, but unfortunately it didn't turn out that way. I had some G-13 x Hashplant and it was good, but not great. Like I picked up some bubbah kush the next day and it blew me away compared to the G-13 x Hashplant. Hopefully Ill be able to get my hands on this PG-13...sounds pretty good.

Everyone I hook up is always sastisfied.... they always come back for more.... alot better than the BC bud we got floating around.

A freind of mine works for the white river ampitheatre in Wa.....every rock group that preformed there, who smokes weed, gets my strain....heads turn from the smell as he walks by people back stage.......who hit the skunk???

If not the strains stated above, I'd recommend Subcool strains even though they don't run G-13 genetics. With good conditions, their strains have high potential. I think JTR is their main powerhouse strain, but I've only ever had Agent Orange, and another one, forgot the name.

Nobody has a pure G13 seed yet but I know Greenthumb has been working on it. Apparently it is very difficult to reverse.They do carry Chemdawg G13 which I am growing now and it looks really good so far and Iranian G13 that l am going to do outdors next Spring..

This was my very first batch of G13M half way threw flowering, NO nutes, just water and this was the outcome(very high content bud). for only water and no nutes and still have this hi of thc is unbelievable. very "sweet" smell(real fruity), wonderfull flavor, burns fantastic. plant is very strong, disease resistent. grows very bushy and quickly.easy to clone and never seeds. start to finish flowering is 9 weeks long. amazing smoke!
