VICTORIA â?? A Houston couple, who allegedly told a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper he could search their truck, is facing drug charges after he discovered more than 50 pounds of marijuana hidden inside their truck's diesel tank.
Trooper Henry Schultz arrested Crystal Maxine Richey, 45, and her husband, Derrill Lamont Windham, 40, Saturday on suspicion of possession of between 50 and 2,000 pounds of marijuana, the Victoria Advocate reported in Monday's online edition.
It was not immediately clear whether they have attorneys.
Schultz stopped them around 10 a.m. He noticed the license plate was obscured and that Richey's registration was expired. The couple gave him permission to search their 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty truck, the arrest report said.
Schultz found 51 bundles of marijuana tucked into a diesel tank in the bed of the truck that was accessible through a trap door, according to the report.
DPS officials told the newspaper they could not discuss the case.

I say whatever u do that breaks the current laws regarding marijuana, no matter where u r in this country, be an otherwise law abiding citizen and your chances of getting caught dirty handed are slashed by more than half, almost every story of a bust on streets stems from some kind of traffic violation that are most of the time easily preventable. and lack of knowledge about the rights as well contributes to these searches
out of info that we know, i doubt there was any reasonable doubt for a search had they refused to consent! just a typical traffic violation does not make ground for a search at all! but police asks for such searches more often than not.
