US aircraft violates Iran air space
Tue, 07 Oct 2008 13:26:17 GMT
A US Falcon warplane has been forced to land in an Iranian airport after violating the Islamic Republic's air space, officials say.
According to Fars News Agency, last week Iranian warplanes forced the violating US aircraft, en route to Afghanistan from Turkey, after it disregarded a warning by Iran's Air Force.
Five senior military officials on board were interrogated by Iranian officials and were released a few hours later after claiming that their entry to the Islamic Republic's airspace was unintentional.
The US warplane has been reportedly trying to fly in a low altitude in order to evade the Iranian radars.
US Pentagon officials have denied the reports, claiming that 'all aircraft in the region are accounted for and we have no reports of any aircraft landing in Iran.'
The White House, meanwhile, has stressed that it will 'look into' the Iranian report.
