As far as laws go I would have to say California but in all honesty you shouldn't base a good state off of its marijuana laws. I mean it should definitely be an influential factor but there are many more things that are much more important...at least to me like climate, population density, how far everything is, what the people are like, etc. Personally out of everywhere I've ever lived, I would have to say Huntsville, Alabama is my favorite because its small enough to collect your thoughts yet big enough to where if you get tired of being alone you can go to a club or something. Plus cops are usually chilled because there aren't any cops around.

BOULDER COLORADO!!
biggest hippy city in the continent. everybody smokes weed and nobody cares. Its so easy to get weed by the ounce its not funny. The cops do care but also have other bigger shit to worry about.
google boulder colorado on youtube and you will see the big 420 celebration

My exgirlfriend had a cousin who went to University of Colorado at Boulder, and apparently its pretty wild.

I know this: count TX off hahaha no shit! :D
the fact and the matter is, FEDERAL LAW is what keeps cops doing what they do.
now, cops in one area can be short on staff or jail space or money to process people so they may turn a blind eye or states/local govts may resort to lowering the priority of small mj violations
and this all can change overnight with 1 or 2 new orders or new funding or staff
I've lived in houston-tex all along and i must say cops here are understaffed, HPD is constantly short on staff even for serious crimes or traffic control, sherrifs and constables do help them out, but compared to somewhere like Plano, TX this place is a heaven... u get the idea
and i have to agree with boulder as well. that place has a good reputation ;)
and too many hippies to be arrested...so maybe there is just a tiny bit more tolerance for very small amounts in violations for cops to ignore or just confiscate and throw out.
even in TX i have heard from buddies that they were pulled over with very small amoutns of bud on them and they only got it confiscated and worst got their pipe smashed on the ground and they were let go... here the criminal justice system is overwhelmed and i think some officials are pushing for less senseless arrests and there is actually a proposal that i have heard which will give officers the discretion to issue a citation instead of an arrest, no doubt u still gotta go to court and all that crap... but u aint gonna sit in county jail anymore.

NORTH CAROLINA im from virginia and by far north carolina is the best place to live.
The people are the most friendly people, southern states are the best, southern hospitality.
Virginia is a "southern state" but has so much Northern influence from D.C that it doesnt feel like one.
I am not a redneck or someone who is like "THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN" just southern hospitality is like nothing else.

Let me tell you, no place will be legit.. Even in Seattle police have called in a helicopter to catch some stoners. It's not that the police will be more tolerant unless your at hempfest or something.. The best thing to do is avoid police at all costs and be smart.
If you move to WA state move outside of a town. You will have a chill life.

The deep south of Virginia is still nice and friendly, not the north though. The North is becoming a communist country. Stay away, we have the most police around. Everytime I have someone visit from another state they're like "damn I never seen so many police around."
Communist country baby!!

Not California, its beautiful but the politicians, gov. and laws are BS. not to mention tons of traffic and smog. High cost of housing and more people than jobs. A enormous population and with the large numbers comes lots off asshole. Etc. Etc. oh there are a lot of HOT Chicks:D

State By State Laws - NORML (http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=4516)
State law map from NORML, hope this helps...
Looks like in Ohio you can have up to 200g and it's a misdemeanor
Also you can GROW up to the same amount and it's...get this...a MISDEMEANOR you can't do more than thirty days in jail max. With laws like that I seriously doubt you would do any jail time whatsoever. Slap on the wrist so to speak.
The best IMO though based on current laws would have to be cold a$s MAINE..
5 plants or less class E misdemeanor 6 months $1,000
5 - 100 plants class D misdemeanor 1 year $2,000
Anywhere you can have up to 100 plants and it's a mere misdemeanor that is pretty strong!
Selling in Maine under 1 pound is...you guessed it: MISDEMEANOR!
Under 1.25 oz possession is a mere civil violation! That means you get a fine and do not get arrested or goto jail whatsoever.
I'm sure if you do some research you will find more interesting states but these two (aside from Alaska being the ultimate) seem to really be tolerant of the kind herb.
Hope this helps! Remember, keep it legal man! Medical & personal use only!

I guess it depends what youre asking for! if MMJ is the only deciding factor then I really dont think any place is better than cali. But goober has a valid point. Ive been in cali almost a year and everything he states is true. Sometimes I pitch myself because of have open the MJ and people are, but good luck making an honest living! I couldnt imagine having a couple of kids and work for a corporation and making it in cali. But I run my co. and no kids, so I eek by. But because MMJ is so important to me, I couldnt imagine anywhere else.
I have never been to BC but after watching The Union I looks like it could Be a candidate. I knows its not the US. but hey there is a peninsula that is connected to BC by land but is part of Wash. state. Maybe live there, best of both worlds!

It all depends on you, your composure with the cops, the people you are with, the particular cop you got, whether or not he had a bad day, and probably a few more things. I got pulled over doing 75 in a 55 on the highway, smoking a blunt in a car with no inspection and insurance and a stolen package of ham and cheese from wendy's, a garbage bag and empty spic and span spray bottle. They smelled the reef and asked what else I had i gave em the .2 left in the baggy. They towed the car and gave me a speeding and insurance ticket and just told me to "be more careful with my plants". It was 2 state police in RI. But you really aren't safe anywhere in this country, just have to be careful.

ok sorry i suck at reading threads all the way through im sure someone has said this already but it doesnt really matter because weed is still schedule I under federal law(high potential for abuse, no medical value thats the definition. in the same category as heroin even tho heroin has a medical use to so even it shouldnt be a schedule I by its own fuckign definition), but I guess if you had to choose I would say cali, i'm no expert tho

I guess now Massachusettes is where you want to be. Question 2 on the ballat is going to decriminalize marijuana under an ounce. You will just be fined a small amount for possesion.

Move north buddy. I got caught puffing down before a movie with a friend. We didn't see the car drive up behind us and the cop literally walked up beside me before I noticed him. He asked us what we're doing, I replied with "Just hoping to make this movie a bit better" and he laughed and told us to have a good night. I've been caught a few times, and each time nothing has come of it. It's all attitude. Respect authority but at the same time act as if nothing is wrong. Works for me.

Yeah the vibe and aura you give off can totally effect the outcome of your situation. If you act like a stoner and sit there like duhhh, or just seem shady in general then you are more likely screwed. If you act like a normal respectable person and talk on the same level with the officer your chances are improved.
