Well...this may fall on some deaf ears...but is anyone into these guys...perhaps some Opeth fans *cough*...they're progressive rock with some elements of psychedelia...and metal of course.

I enjoyed lightbulb sun but that's the only album I listened to.
Mastodon tho (yup looking at your avatar), they rock HARD. You ever been to one of their shows?

Yea Porcupine Tree is worth getting into...very talented group.
Man I've been to a shit load of metal concerts...but I'm so pissed that I never got the chance to check Mastodon out live, considering that they're my favorite band...Honestly, I got into them in 2006, after blood mountain was released, and I really liked it...then I listened to Leviathan and that album became my favorite hands down...but they've been touring Europe for forever...so just missed every chance...Though with a new album coming out this January I feel as though I'll get my chance...though I wished I'd been able to see them early on...when they still played song like Hearts Alive and Mother Puncher....maybe some stuff off remission...
How bout you...you see em live?

haven't really gotten into them, been meaning to check out some of their new stuff though. I use to have an old cd by them a few years ago, can't remember if i liked it or not.
mastodon is pretty bad ass though, I got into them right after leviathan came out. Stayed in my cd player for months, I love that cd. Blood Mountain was pretty spectacular though I haven't listened to it nearly as much as leviathan. They're coming out with a new cd in jan? pretty sweet, I can't wait! Any idea on what kind of theme it will be?

Yep billion...Opeth = gods.... PT= demigods
^ Yea they said they were gonna write their own story again like Blood Mountain...but try to make it more evident...though they haven't released what it's gonna be about...they also stated that it was gonna be spaced out and creepy....that's all they said I think....they're gonna release it around the same time as LOG's new album...so that's gonna be a pretty cool month

The thread is already way off topic...man I thought the same thing when I heard watershed...I expected more heavy parts and growling...was a bit disappointed when I didn't hear too much of it. Heir Apparent and lotus eater were the only two heavy tracks...and you're right they're the best off that album...the rest even though some were heavy in sound like porcelain heart didn't have the signature Opeth "heaviness." But you can't deny though man that it's a real beautiful record...Burden, Hessian peel, coil...beautiful songs you know...I don't know if you're the type of guy that didn't enjoy damnation (I know I did). But when I heard it it really sounded unique and nothing like Opeth put out before...and I think that's the point of it all...but you're right, I really hope the next album has more growling on it.

Yep, yep all true, that definitely has something to do with it....but don't forget Michael is the main creative force...the final word
Michael = Opeth

I saw them last year and I'm just a casual listener of there and they were damn awesome. As a fan, you just HAVE to see them. I'm sure they wouldn't lose their luster either, they're a real energetic band.

True, true.
Akesson is a fucking amazing guitarist though, probably more so than Lindgren.
Yea definitely...part of the reason why Peter left was b/c he wasn't writing well anymore...or so I've heard...it was inevitable I guess...Fred is a bitchin good guitarist though

I heard it was because the touring was getting to him.
I think I read that he planned on still being a part of music, I would be interested in solo work of his.
Yea in his letter he said the touring took its toll, and that he lost the enthusiasm and motivation to stay in opeth...idk the thing I mentioned was kind of a rumour...so who knows how true it is...but they're still good friends...so there's none of that stereotypical rockstar breakup shit going on...funny how this thread was more about Mastodon and Opeth than PT...:D

In Absentia...I'm guessing that would be an album you'd probably like from PT...
Yea that interview pretty much summed it all up...Peter couldn't keep up with it all...I wonder who'd be the next to leave Opeth lol...Mendez maybe :wtf:

Woops! I mean replaced haha, seeing as how every original member is gone...and he's been in Opeth longer than everyone but Mike...

Isn't it weird though based on their record that the longer you stay in Opeth...the more likely you're going leave...Mike being the only original member left...if Mendez leaves...the curse will be proven true my friend

when he joined everyone but one guy left...and then he changed the name to opeth...so i guess he joined an empty band with one guy and changed the name...don't know what you call that move.
