I actually saw an advertisement for this concert recently, I don't remember where though. Sounds like a good show, you'll have a good time. I saw The Dead back in 2003 during their first summer tour, it was epic

I'm not a deadhead, but isn't it Grateful Dead?

yes it is, common mistake I think, it's not the first time I've seen it.

Hey Now,

I was blessed with being able to see the Grateful Dead over 75 times before Jerry passed and to me this is a like reliving the whole tour thing again. I think with Warren Haynes playing for Jerry this time it will make the right mix. I did see the Dead when they toured and I was somewhat disappointed because the energy just was not there as it was when Jerry played. This is hard to explain if you never been to a show when Jerry was around, but for those of you that have, you know exactly what I am talking about.

I have been doing the festival thing and have been going to the Ratdog, Phil and Friends, and Dark Star Orchestra shows every chance I get. These shows have been filling that need to get my fix of the Dead Played Live:thumbsup: But this should bring back the way I remember it and for you that have never been this is your chance to see what I am talking about. (I hope)

Peace:hippy:

Good shit man, I did a little bit of festival hoppin' back in 03. I hit up bonnaroo and a couple of Dead shows. Unfortunately I was only 7 when Jerry Passed so I never had the chance to see the Grateful Dead, but I can imagine the energy at that type of show. I am still grateful that I was able to see The Dead play though. This show you're going to isn't going to be the first time that Warren Haynes is filling in for Jerry. I've also been to a couple of RatDog shows...I fucking love ratdog!

It has been widely rumored for the past few months that when the tours of Ratdog, Phil and Friends and the Almond Brothers ( Who has been touring with Phil ) came to an end this fall, that the time was right to bring the Dead back. Especially after they all got back together (except for Bill K.)for the show in San Francisco in February. Bill will be joining them for this show and the tour.

LOL first off for a long-time fan you sure can't spell...then again :S2: you probably are a Deadhead...

The Allman Bros' Warren Haynes will indeed be the frontman for this group. I'm not all that excited about it but it's pretty cool if you ask me. I've had enough of the other guys besides Warren. Bob isn't as bad as Phil, who has created no new music and instead plays the same shit he's been playing for 30 years. Talk about weak.

Plus this is one more reason Obama rocks. ;)

As you can see my spelling is not my strongest attribute, but the way I look at it is you get everything I am saying and I do my best to get it right.

Sorry for some of the mistakes but it is all good.

IAP,

I tend to agree with you, Phil & Friends is the last of my favorites, Ratdog puts on a good show with more energy than Phil. I went to most of the Phil shows to see the Allman Bros. more ( Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks playing together is really something to see )

i really don't believe you have seen the dead 75 times, or are over 15 years old. there is no other conceivable excuse for saying almond brothers.

grateful dead is cool, wouldn't mind seeing them. I'd like to see the allman brothers if derek trucks is with them, which he usually is now. He's a mad man on guitar.

Nice try with the trolling!

wow thanks for the update JG. oh and the almond brothers is absolutely nutty. never heard that one before.

I think that Warren Haynes is a great guitar player with a beautiful voice. I love when he sings Jerry tunes, and his own tunes, but his playing in the place of Jerry is lacking. I realize nobody can fill Jerome's shoes, but others do better.
Steve Kimock for instance when playing with the Other Ones in 98 and phil and Friends in 99. He is able to get psychedelic with his guitar, and bluesy. If you are a dead fan then you know what "it" means. That state of music where it all just melts away. Kimock goes there, warren not so much.
I also disagree on the praises for Ratdog. I think they are a fun band to see in a bar, a bar band, but hardly exploratory in the realm of the psychedelia.

I think it is cool they are all getting together and trying to help out Obama. It takes a lot to get Billy K off his island paradise of Hawaii!

Catching Dark Star Orchestra on a good night is something special. High energy and very nice playing. I went to Jam In the Dam in Amsterdam in 2007, and they were great.
Check out archive.org for some downloads.

This is Kimock with Dark Star Internet Archive: Details: Dark Star Orchestra Live at The Staircase on 2003-09-04 (http://www.archive.org/details/dso2003-09-04.shnf)

Check out the Lazy Lightnin > Supplication, Music Never Stopped, Shakedown.

ps. be sure to get real High before hand!

Allrolson,

I was dreaming of going to the JAM in the Damn to see them. I just didn't have enough vacation time and MONEY. But if they do it again next year I will try and get my Buddie to go for sure.

And you hit the nail on the head:thumbsup: Darkstar on a good night! You can close your eyes and you would swear your at a real Grateful Dead show. I have shed many a tear at some of their shows because it is sooooo close then I open my eyes and remember Jerry is gone.

i wasnt trolling, i just hate to see posers acting like fans. you spelled most words correctly, but referred to a band that has been around for what close to forty years at this point by a completely different name, and it is exactly the kind of mistake a kid who isnt that familiar with something makes. like when i was a lad and called it the silver war instead of civil. difference was i didnt try to play it off as a spelling error.

Have a good one:thumbsup:

Suhl,

Thanks for the response, Sorry for accusing you for trolling, I just did not want to get into a big thing trying to prove myself when I know I don't. Also I see where you are coming from and you can probably thank spell check for the error anyway.

So No JITD next year! Damn:mad: I still want to go to Amsterdam anyway just for the experience of smoking bud legally!!:D sample some of the strains I never had, :smokin: then pick up a few beans while I am there.

Also I just rememberd this concert is only 11 days away, I am used to months before a show.

I was just lucky enough to see the Allman Bros. and Phil and Friends play in Charlotte. Great show, great vibe, couldn't believe some of the songs they broke out. Allmans opened (missed about a 1/3 of it got stuck in the parking lot LOL) played a killer set with a lot of stuff I honestly didn't recognize and finished with an incredible "Whipping Post."

Then the energy of the place just went crazy as Phil came out...

Opened with Cumberland (which I called) and I have to admit things got a little -ahem- hazy LOL but there definitely was a killer Darkstar played.

I was surprised when they broke out with "The Golden Road..." I had never heard that live before. They encored with a sick "Cosmic Charlie."

Very good show.
