Hi,

I am starting some AK47 from seed. The babies are 3 weeks old from the day I planted them and are about 5 inches tall w/3 nodes, doing 24/0 under flors or the sun when it's out. I want to sex them as soon as possible so I am not wasting space on males, then continue veging.

Would someone be so kind as to answer these questions:

1) At what point can I go 12/12 with them? How tall? How many nodes? Or what other criteria? Should I do 12/12 or some other time?

2) I have a switchable 400w light so should I use HPS or MH?

3) Any tips for determining sex? I have heard that males tend to show first? True? I don't want to have them under 12/12 any longer than needed so I don't want to wait for balls unless I have to.

4) Any other advice or tips on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,

wizbin

AK47 nice!, Wait till you have 4 nodes (about 6 inches) then go to 18/6 for a few days to a week,(so not to shock the babies) then switch to 12/12 to jump start the flowering. Now soon you will be able to determine what sex they are.Once you know I would go back down to 18/6 for a short while (again, so not to shock them), then to 20/4 for your vegging or 24/0. Your HPS wouldbe better for the vegging and your MH for the flowering.
I hope I have been of some help.PEACE.

where did u get information that hps is better for veg and halide for flower, its totally opposite. the red spectrum from the hps is what flowers the plants better and the white from the halide permits vertical growth. and all the swithching from flower to veg may end up in hermaphrodites because of the increased stress ur putting on em. do it slowly! thats how u get the best results! male flowers look like little bananas while female flowers are white. not hard to determine sex!

Agreed HPS (High Pressure Sodium) for flowering. MH (Medal Halide) has a blue spectrum that is good for vegetative growth.
MH or HPS can be used for for both vegetative growth and flowering growth.

Local growers in my area say vegetative growth under the HPS makes some kannibis plants vegetative growth stay shorter and bushier then if a MH is used during the vegetative growth.

Good Growing!

if u get an eye hortilux bulb for ur hps light, it combines both the red and the blue spectrum, making it resemble the spectrum of the sun, pretty close anyways, and it will promote more growth and more abundance of crystals! the sun is a beautiful thing when it comes to bud plants, so try and get as close to the spectrum of the sun as possible, to get outstanding results!!
